University of Pikeville Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine (UP-KYCOM) is the 19th school of osteopathic medicine in the country.

Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine

KYCOM is located in central Appalachia, the eastern part of Kentucky. The panoramic scenes of hills and valleys have contributed to the often isolated, rural background of this region.

Our school’s mission is to produce physicians to serve the people of this region.

Demographic and economic data reveal rates higher than state and national levels for unemployment, work disability, poverty, Medicaid, uninsured and mortality for all ages.

Our Future at KYCOM

KYCOM will move into the Coal Building in Spring 2012.

We all are very excited about the growth of our facilities and the expansion of our class sizes.

ΣΣΦ Requirements

Each member in the Sigma chapter is required to maintain above average academic scholarship in addition to completion of 30 hours of community service a year.

We encourage each of our members to achieve a T.O.U.C.H. pin, signifying 50 hours of community service.

Relay For Life 2011

In our sixth year participating with Relay for Life, Team KYCOM raised over $4,300.

We provided OMT throughout the evening for community members and entertainment for children and teens.

Medical Mission Trip to Batey Nueve, Dominican Republic

This year KYCOM students helped raise enough money to send students to a small town in the Dominican Republic.

The team collected pharmaceuticals and medical equipment in order to set up a clinic and pharmacy in the community.

Habitat has built more than 225,000 houses around the world, providing more than 1 million people in more than 3,000 communities with safe, decent, affordable shelter.

Alzheimer’s Memory Walk

Our KYCOM team came in Second Place in total fundraising.

We sponsored $2 dress down days for both classes, as a major fundraiser.

KOMA Conference

Several of our members elected to dedicate their time to represent KYCOM at the Kentucky Osteopathic Medical Association.

Part of this experience involved attending a Pre-Medical Conference and participating in a student panel.

Future Sigma Chapter Activities

Thanksgiving Baskets with ACOFP- October/November 2011- We will donate food to fill ~100 baskets full of items commonly used for Thanksgiving and distribute them to needy homes in Pike County and the surrounding area.

Big Sandy Christmas– November/December 2011 – We will allow either toy or financial donations to be made throughout November and December to give to needy families and children on Christmas.
