‘T’Pumpsaredesignedforpumpingfreshorsaltwater,clearordirty.Donotuse‘T’Pumpsforpumpingchemicals.Ifthewatertobepumpedisknowntobecontaminatedwithchemicals,contactyourdealerorthefactoryforapplicationsassistance.Donotuse a pump that is not chemically compatible with the liquid you intend to pump or serious bodily injury, death, fire, explosion, or environmentaldamagecouldresult.Pumpingliquidswithhighsolidsorabrasivescontentwillacceleratewearofcertaincompo-nentssuchastheshaftseal,impeller,volute,andwearplate.Therefore,wearshouldnotbemisconstruedastotheexistenceofadefectandassuchwouldnotbeincludedinawarrantyclaim.Norisitimpliedthatsuchcomponentswilllastthroughtheoneyearwarrantyperiodwithoutoccasional,orevenfrequentreplacementdependingupontheseverityoftheapplication.Replacebadlywornordamagedcomponentstoassuresafeoperationofthispump.Consultdealerorfactoryforrecommendationsonpumpingabrasive and other difficult liquids.

II. SAFETY PRECAUTIONSWARNING:
cannotdevelopmorethan55poundspersquareinchpressure.Thepumpmustnotbeusedunderanyofthefollowingunusualconditionswhichcanresultinexcessivepressuresbeingdeveloped:
1.Pumpshaftspeedover3600RPM. 2.Quickclosingvalvesindischargelineoranyother
devicewhichmayintroducehydraulicshockintothe system.
3. Possiblesuddenobstructionofdischargelinesuchas avehicledrivingoverthehose.
4. High positive suction pressures (such as with a flood- edsuction)whichwouldincreasethetotalsystempres- sureto65PSIorabove.
5. Do not pump a liquid having a specific gravity greater than1.3.
M. Do not over tighten the drain or filler plugs. Hand tighten only. Excessiveforcemaydamagethethreadsorthepumpbody.Donotusemetalplugs.
N. Use at least one foot of flexible hose to make plumbing con-nectionstothepumpbody.Rigidpipingmayputstressesonthepump,causingdamage.Ifrigidpipingmustbeused,properlysupportitsoastoeliminatestressesonthepump.
O. Do not tighten inlet and discharge fittings more than one turn beyondhandtight.Excessiveforcewilldamagethepumpor fittings.
P. Longsuctionanddischargehosesorpipesmustbesupportedso that the weight of the hoses or pipes filled with liquid does notdamagethepumportipitover.
Q. Usereplacementpartssuppliedbythemanufactureronly.R. Always fill the pump body with the liquid to be pumped before
startingthepump.Itisnotnecessarytodrainthepumpbodyafteruse,unlessthereisdangeroffreezing,settlingofsolids,orcrystallization.
S. Do not run the pump dry. Do not restrict flow through the pumpwithacloseddischargevalveor“starved”suctionline.If it is necessary to restrict flow through the pump for longer thanaminuteortwo,itmusteitherbestoppedoradischargebypasslineinstalledtokeepliquidtemperaturesbelowthemaximumrecommendedoperatingtemperatureof130°F.
A. Never use these pumps for pumping flammable liquids such asgasoline.ANEXPLOSIONANDSERIOUSINJURYMAYRESULTIFTHISWARNINGISIGNORED.
B. Your‘T’pumpisdesignedforusewithwater,clearordirty,do not use it for pumping chemicals.Provideallneededsafetyprecautionstoprotectpeopleandpropertybeforepumpingany fluids.
C. Beforestartingthepump,followalloftheinstructionsinthismanualandanysupplementalinstructionssuppliedwiththepump,engineormotor.
D. Anypersonoperatingthispumpanditspowerunitshouldbefullyawareofitssafeoperationalproceduresbeforetheystartusingit.
E. Never operate this unit in an explosive atmosphere, nearcombustible materials, or where insufficient ventilation ex-iststopreventanypersonal injuryordamage.Becertainanyotherpowerunitissafefortheareainwhichitistobeoperated.Neveroperategas-poweredenginesindoors.
F. Alwaysbesurethatthepumpisonsecurefootingsothatitcannotslide,shift,ortipover.Ifthepumpissittingbesideapit,secureitsothatitdoesnotfallin.Pumpandengineunitshaveslotsandholesfor fasteningtoasecurebase.Baseplate,skidrail,androllcagekitsareavailablefromyourpumpdealer.
G. Neveroperatetheunitwithanyguardsremoved.H. Withenginedrivenpumps: 1. Observeallsafetyprecautionsforthehandlingoffuel. 2. Neverrefueltheenginewhileitisrunning,andcare
shouldbeexercisedsothatnofuelisspilledonahot engine. Always allow the engine to cool at least five minutesbeforerefueling.
I. Beforeworkingonthispump,makesurethatthepowerunitcannotinadvertentlybestarted.
J. Besure that thepowerunit,pump,andwiringandpipinginstallations are suitable for the liquid being pumped andcomplywithallapplicablecodesandregulations.
K. Do not use torches or apply fire or flames to this pump for anyreason.
L. Thispumpmustnotbesubjectedtomorethan65poundspersquareinchinternalpressure.Thepumpitself,normally
III. PREPARING THE PUMP AND POWER UNIT FOR OPERATIONA. GENERAL 1. Inspectyourunitforsignsofshippingdamage.Notifyyour

2. Readandrereadtheseinstructionsandthepowerunitinstructionsuntilyouaresureofsafeandcorrectoperating
methods.B. Power unit preparation, gasoline engine driven pumps: 1. Forcompleteoperatingandmaintenanceinformationread
completelytheenginemanufacturer’sinstructionsincludedwiththepump.
2. Before starting, fill crankcase with oil specified by the enginemanufacturer.Useahighqualitydetergentoilclas-sified for service SC, SD, SE or MS. Do not add anything to therecommendedoil.
3. Before starting, fill fuel tank with clean, fresh unleaded “regular” grade automotive gasoline. Do not mix oil withgasoline.
CAUTION:Alwaysremovesparkplugorsparkplugwirebe-foreworkingonaunittopreventaccidentalstarting.The
enginegovernorissetatthefactory.Donottamperwith anypartwhichmayincreasethegovernedenginespeed.
D. Pump Preparation 1. Filltheshaftseallubricationsystemwiththesame
oilusedintheengine.Ifmotordriven,useSAE 10W40. (Oil fill cap is located behind the pump filler plugontopofthepump.Seeitem#1Aonthe exploded view drawing on page 7). The initial fill will be completely used within the first few hours of operation. Refill the tube after three operating hours,checkevery24operatinghours.Ensurethat the shaft seal lubrication system is filled with oil as describedabove.
C. Power unit preparation, electric motors: 1. Makecertainthattheinputpowertoyourelectric motorisproper,singlephaseorthreephase,andis
of the proper voltage according to the motor specifica- tionplate.
2. Besureofthepropermotorrotation.Pumpimpeller shouldrotatecounterclockwise,lookingfromthesuc tioninletside.Forsinglephasemotorsconsultthe motormanufacturer’sinstructionsforwiringfor counterclock-wiserotation.Threephasemotorrota- tionmaybereversedbyinterchanginganytwoofthe threepowerleads.Makecertainthatwiringforyour electricmotorcomplieswithallexistingcodes.
The engine exhaust from this product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm.

A. Fillthepumpbodywithcleanwaterbeforestarting.Avoidrunningyourpumpdryforprolongedperiods.Excessivesealwearmayresultevenwiththelubricationsystembecausepressureexertedbytheliquidinthebodyofthefull,operatingpumpisrequiredtodrivelubricationtotheseal.
B. Makecertainthatallhoseandpipeconnectionsareairtight.Important: Anairleakinthesuctionlinemaypreventprimingand will reduce the capacity of the pump. Use teflon sealing tape on all threaded fittings.
C. Alwaysplacethepumpascloseaspossibletothesourceoftheliquidtobepumped.Keepalllinesasshortandstraightaspossibletominimizerestrictions. Enginedriven‘T’pumpsareequippedwitha“wide
stance”chassiswhichwillstabilizethepumpindif-ficult job site situations. However, always attempt to placethepumpinalevel,securepositionforsafe,efficient operation. See figure #1.
D. If flexible hose must be laid across a roadway, protect it with planking.Instantaneousshut-offpressureappliedwhenavehiclerunsacrossanunprotectedhosewillcause“hydraulicshock”.Thisshockcandamagethepumpand/ordamagethe hose. See figure #2.
E. Softsolidsaslargeas½thesizeofthe2"&3"suctionportsmaybepassed. (E.g., 1"&1½” solids respectively). Toensurethatnolargersolidsenterthepump,alwaysinstallasuctionlinestrainersuppliedbythemanufacturer.Ifthestrainerislikelytoclog,useoneofthemethodsshownbelowto prevent clogging (see figure #3).
F. Drainthepumpbodywheneverthereisdangeroffreezing.
G. After each use - always flush residue and solids from the pumpbodybythefollowingmethod:
1. Removesuctionhosefrombody. 2. Removethedrainplug(item#20onpartsdrawing)
and allow all fluid to drain from the pump body. 3. Loosenthepumpfrontsupportbyrotatingeyebolts
(item#45)threefullturnscounterclockwise. 4. RemovetheV-bandclamp(item#23)andpullthe
pumpbodyandsupportforwarduntilclearoftheoppos-inghalf.RemoveandwashthebodyO-ring(item#22)withcleanwater.Iftheimpellereyeappearsobstructed,removethewearplate(item#28).Removeallobstruc-tions.Reinstallwearplate.
5. RinsethepumpinteriorandwipethebodyO-ringseat areas.
6. Reassemblethepump.
IV. PUMP OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS PO-1750GPage3
V. TROUBLE SHOOTING AND REPAIRGoodpreparationandmaintenanceshouldalwaysresultinproperpumpfunction.Despitethesepractices,someproblemsmayoccur. The following suggestions should be sufficient to solve most pump problems.
Note:“(Item#...)”referstotheexplodedviewdrawingonpage6. Problem Treatment Pump will not prime after one minute 1.Fill pump body to overflowing. Restart. ofoperation. 2.Checksuctionlineforobstructionsorloose fittings. 3.Pumpspeed(isenginechokestillon?). VacuumperformancedropsrapidlywhenRPM isdecreased. 4.Checkvalve(item#24)notsealing(pump willnotholdprimewater).Removeobstruction. 5.Leakageatsuctiongasket(item#27). Pump will prime but flow is less than usual 1.See 2 and 3 above. 2.Dischargehoseobstructed. 3.Checkforexcessivewearandclearancebe- tweenwearplateandimpeller.Greaterthan 1/16"clearancewhenbodyisremoved requiresreplacementofeitherorboth. Waterleakingthroughoilseal 1.Wornshaftseal. (item#7)
VI. PUMP DISASSEMBLY AND REPAIRToolsrequired: Screwdriver(broadblade,straightslot)Allenwrench5/32"
hex.Impellerswithmetalhubsmayrequirea“Jackscrew”forremoval.3"pumpswouldrequirea5/8-11bolt.2"pumpsneeda1/2-13bolt.Impellerswithnometalhubdonotrequirea“Jackscrew”forremoval.
A. Looseneyeorhexheadbolts(item#45onpumpsupport(item#48)threeturns.
B. Removeclampingband(item#23)andpullbodyassembly(items#21&48)awayfrombrackethalf.
C. Body assembly contains a rubber gasket seal (item #27)whichisremovablebyhand,andacheckvalve(item#24)whichisheldinplacebytwoself-tappingscrews(item#26)througharetainerplate(item#25).
D. BRACKET DISASSEMBLY Removethevolutewearplate(item#28).(Notetheslotsin
thewearplatewhichlocateitonthevolute.)Observetheinsidesurfaceforsignsofexcessivewear.
E. Toremovetheimpeller(item#16),simplyremovetheretainerscrew(item#18)andO-ring(item#17).Theimpeller
shouldnowbemanually removable. ImpellerswithmetalhubsmayrequireaJackscrew.Oncetheimpellerisremoved,theattachedsealshouldbeprotectedunlessreplacementis intended.Notetheshims(item#13)withintheimpellerbore.Retaintheseshimsandtheshaftkey(item#14)forlateruseinreassembly-evenwithanewimpeller.
F. To remove the seal (item #15) from the impeller, place ascrewdriver throughthefrontandpressthesealoutof itsseat.Whenreplacingtheseal,ensurethatitisfullyseatedwithinitssocketandthatthefaceisperpendiculartotheshaft.Whenevertheimpellersealhalfisreplaced,thebracketsealhalfmustbereplacedatthesametime(andviceversa),asthesealhalveswearapathintoeachother.Anewsealhalfrunningagainstawornsealhalfislikelytoleak.
G. Todisassemblethevolute(item#11)fromthebracket(item#6)on2"seriespumps,remove2Allen-headscrews.The3"unit requires the removalof4Allen-headscrews (item#12). CleanandsafelystorethevoluteO-ring(item#10)untilreassembly.
VII. PEDESTAL MOUNTED, FLEXIBLE COUPLED PUMPS
A. FLEXIBLE COUPLED PUMPS: COUPLING ALIGNMENT
Measurethediameterofthepowerunitshaft.Choosetheappropriatecouplingforyourpumpandpowerunit.(Seeflexible couplings chart number VI-A). Proper shaft and
couplingalignmentreducesvibrationandpreventsprematurecouplingfailure.Thefollowingeightstepshelpinobtainingpropershaftalignment.

1. Makesureyouusearigidbaseplatelargeenoughfortheassemblyofthepumpandthedriveunit.Weofferkits58-0116and58-0117forthispurpose.(SeebaseplatekitslistedaftercouplingschartVI-A.)**
2. Placethepumpanddriveunitonthebaseplate.3. Measurethedistancebetweenthecenterlineofthepump
shaftandthebaseplatesurface.4. Measurethedistancebetweenthecenter lineofthedrive
unitshaftandbaseplate.5. Comparemeasurementsobtainedfromsteps3and4anduse
spacersandshimsforhightadjustmenttoensurealignmentofbothshafts.
6. Placethecouplinghalvesovereachshaft,putthe“spider”be-tweenthetwohalvesandcouplethetwohalvestogether.
7. Toassureparallelalignment(Figure5)placeastraightedgealongthesideofbothcouplinghalvesintwodifferentloca-tions,90°apart.Thecouplingisalignedwhenthestraightedgerestssquarelyonthesidesofbothcouplinghalves.
8. Toavoidangularmisalignment, insertameasuringdevice(tapergaugeorfeelergauge)betweenthecouplingfacesatfourlocations90°apart(seearrowsinFigure6)andmeasurethegapateachofthefourlocations.Forproperalignmentallfourmeasurementsshouldbeequal.Reshimmingmayberequiredtoachievethisalignment.

PacerPumpswarrants itsproductstobefreefromdefectsofmaterialandworkmanshipforaperiodofoneyear(12months)ofservice.Iftheoneyearofservicefallswithin24monthsfromdateofmanufacture.Thecompanywarrantsthatitsproductsatthetimeofshipment,willbefreeofdefectsofmaterialandworkmanshipfornormaluseandservice.Thiswarrantywill notapplyorbeextended toproducts subject tomisuse,neglect,accident,orimproperinstallation,ortomaintenanceofproductswhichhavebeenalteredorrepairedbyanyoneexceptPacerPumpsoritsauthorizedrepresentatives.TheBuyer,oranypersonreceivingsuchaproductduringthedurationofthewarranty,shallcontacthisPacerPumpsdealerassoonasanydefectoccurs.ContactPacerPumpsforthenameandaddressofyournearestdealer.
Certain components suchasmechanical seals, ceramic liners, impel-lers,impellermagnetassemblies,pistons,hose,diaphragms,etc.maybesubjecttowear,andtherefore,wearshouldnotbemisconstruedastotheexistenceofadefectandassuchwouldnotbeincludedinawar-rantyclaim,norshoulditbeimpliedthatitemssuchasthiswilllastayearwithoutoccasional,orevenfrequent replacementdependingupontheseverityoftheapplication.
PacerPumpssoleobligationundertheforegoingwarrantyshallbelimitedto (at itsoption) repairandreplacement (andreship to theBuyerwithtransportationchargescollecttoanyplaceintheU.S.)ofdefectivegoodsprovidedthatifthecompanyisunabletocorrectadefectivecomponent
