GENERAL RULE• All equipment under pressure with
max. allowable pressure > 0.5 bar
• Exceptions : ART. 1 / Par. 3e.g. : - heating systems
- bottles for consumption- ships - marine- mobile offshore- Airospace- …
• The PED is a legal requirement, failure to comply will be acriminal offence.

• MOST IMPORTANT PRESSURE BOUNDARY PARTS MUSTHAVE DIN 50049 / EN 10204 – 3.1.B MATERIAL CERTIFICATESAS A MINIMUM
(as per PED)
!!!! THESE CERTIFICATES MUST BE DELIVERED BY THEPRODUCER (MANUFACTURER) WHO’S Q.A. SYSTEM ISAPPROVED BY A COMPETENT BODY ESTABLISHED WITHINTHE COMMUNITY
3.1.B = C.M.T.R.
BUT

• FILLER MATERIALS WITH 2.2 CERTIFICATE
• HYDROTEST = 1,43 . P (1,5 = O.K.)
• AUTHORIZATION FOR REMARKING ANDRESTAMPING HEAT NUMBERS IS NEEDED
• 5% RX (ANSI) PER BATCH / JOB
PER WELDER AND PER PROCESS
(UNLESS OVERRULED BY CUSTOMER)
• SPECIAL NDE QUALIFICATIONS FOR OPERATORS
• MARKING-NOBO / DECLARATION NEEDED

PED 97/23/EG
CAGE CONSTRUCTION
• FULL PENETRATION WELDS ARE PREFERABLE –BUT FILLET WELDS ARE ACCEPTABLE
• SLIP ON FLANGES ARE ACCEPTABLE
• 900 LBS AND ABOVE WN FLANGES AREPREFERRED
• STRAIGHT PIPE DESIGN IS FULLY ACCEPTABLE(FOR HP/HT BASED ON ALLOWABLE STRESS, ANSICALCULATIONS ARE REQUIRED FORREINFORCEMENT CHECK)
14
PED 97/23/EG
CAGE CONSTRUCTION• HALF COUPLINGS (WELDED/THREADED) ARE
ACCEPTABLE WITH FOLLOWING LIMITATIONS :- COUPLING MAX 2 ’’ NPS- VESSEL WALL < 10 mm- MAX. DESIGN P = 350 psi (24 bar)- MAX. BORE DIA = OD OF PIPE SIZE + 19 MM
• NO INTERSECTIONS OF WELDS• C/L SIDE CONNECTIONS TO MAIN
CIRCUMFERENTIAL BODY WELD >= OD SIDECONNECTION (OR STRAIGHT PIPE)
15
PED 97/23/EG
RISK ANALYSIS• The rules of good engineering practice should be
followed when installing the unit.• The max. design pressure is indicated on the
nameplate of the unit. Pressure, temperature andstresses must be within the limits of internationalrecognised engineering standards.
• Materials of construction are as selected bycustomer. Seller assumes no liability formalfunction due to corrosion.
16
PED 97/23/EG
RISK ANALYSIS• The used fluid should be within the intended use
of the unit.• International health and safety regulations need to
be followed. More specific :• The system needs to be depressurised before opening.• Hot/cold surfaces need to be isolated to prevent contact danger.• When containing dangerous fluids, unit needs to be drained
and/or cleaned prior to inspection and maintenance.
• To prevent danger caused by leaks, a leakage testis required after each replacement of gaskets.

FUTURE EXPECTATIONS
• CONTINUATION ISO 9001 AUDITS PER EDITION2000 (D.N.V.)
• 2 UNANNOUNCED VISITS/YEAR DURINGPRODUCTION FROM NOBO (LLOYDS)
• EVERY 3 YEARS ; NEW PED-H1 AUDIT
• REVIEW OF NDE REPORTS, WPS/PQR AND
DECLARATIONS FROM NOBO
