The Parade of the Australian Expeditionary Force – lunch time at Royal Park, Melbourne, Victoria, 1914 Photographer – George Rose, Source – State Library of Victoria
The centenary of the First World War offers a chance for teachers and students to not only explore the global impact of the war, but also delve more deeply into the personal impact on those involved. This immersive professional learning event will include a range of activities relating to studies of the conflict.
Starting at the Shrine of Remembrance, you will learn how replica objects can be used to explore the experiences of soldiers, followed by a visit to the newly opened Galleries of Remembrance.
Moving on to the State Library of Victoria, you will discover a range of digitised resources that can be used to research this turbulent time.
Then at Melbourne Museum you will visit the Love and Sorrow exhibition, to experience how storytelling has been used to show the impact on those who served and those who were left behind.
During the day you’ll also have the opportunity to work with educators from the three venues, experts from the History Teachers’ Association of Victoria and with other teachers from across Victoria.
