PRINCE OF PEACE CATHOLIC CHURCH JULY 16, 20174

Letter From The PastorDear Parishioners,

This weekend, Psalm 3 instructs, “the seed that falls on ground will yield a fruitful harvest.” May the soil of our hearts be receptive to the Word and carry it out through the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Congratulations and blessings to Larry Seick, newly elected Grand Knight of our Knights of Columbus council and to all who will be assuming leadership for the 2017 – 2018 fraternal year. Thank you to outgoing Grand Knight Don Mangers and the past leadership council members for the good work they accomplished this past year. I wholeheartedly recommend membership in the Knights of Columbus to all men in our parish. It is a good way to remain solid in the practice of the Catholic faith and to be of service to our Church and the community.

If you have a welcoming personality, I invite you to consider become a greeter before the weekend Masses. Greeters offer the fi rst glimpse of hospitality to those attending Mass. Thank you to all who currently serve in this ministry. If you would like to learn more about our greeter’s ministry, please contact Karen at the parish offi ce.

We are happy to welcome Father Brian McColl back to Prince of Peace for a month of priestly ministry. Father’s service allows me to take some time for summer vacation. Please keep me in your prayers and know that you will be in mine.

May the Lord bless you and your families – Father Kovanis

Health Ministry

Health is meant to be a balance of every aspect of your life. To begin to understand what it means to be healthy, you have to realize that you are broken. Christ knows of our brokenness and he knew this when he o ered us healing and salvation through his passion, death and resurrection. When we act out of our brokenness, we choose sin rather than love. Brokenness can a ect our living, loving and healing capacity. Brokenness a ects our relationship with God, ourselves and others.

However, instead of allowing it to limit us, we can view our brokenness as our need for God. Brokenness means that we are dependent on God for life, love and health. Brokenness can be understood and lived in such a way to help others and empathize with their pain. Brokenness causes us to be open and vulnerable. If we surrender our will to Christ, we can experience health and healing.

Ultimately, healing is a way of connecting the body, mind and spirit to create wholeness, health and a sense of well-being, even when your illness is not cured. erefore, you may not be cured of your illness or disease, but you can experience healing through a renewed understanding of God’s plan for your life, improved relationships with others, and a willful entering into the passion of Christ. is is what we call conversion.

Conversion is not a one-and-done moment in our life. We aren’t “saved” once and for all. Conversion is an ongoing process of healing, of turning toward the Lord and away from sin. Conversion enables us to prepare our hearts for the grace provided by Jesus Christ.

Making the World a Better Place“Tikkun olam” is a Hebrew phrase meaning repairing the world to do what you can to make it a better place. “ is community has long been making the world a better place,” says Anita Bullaro, co-director of Our Lady’s Pantry. “We want to thank everyone for their ongoing gifts of both time and treasure. Especially with youngsters out of school and raiding the refrigerator all day, families need more food than ever to get by each week. If you could keep us in mind now and then throughout the year, that would be grand, because people need to eat every day.” If you can help, kindly send your gift to Our Lady’s Pantry, c/o Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Migrant Mission, 16650 U.S. 301 South, Wimauma, Fl. 33598.
