Abstract This study investigates how private companies in the United States make good use of “open data” in terms of three major cat-egories and eight minor contexts based on Kim (2014). Next, on-line business networks among open data companies are analyzed using Bing API-based webometrics tool. Specifically, a total of ninety five companies belonging to “DATA & TECHNOLOGY” sec-tor in Opendata500.com are chosen for current research. The re-sults show that the majority of companies utilized open data in order to make a progress in product & service and supported de-cision making. Next, online business network analysis reveals that companies with a particular focus on B2B and B2C+B2B business models are located in the center of network diagram. On the other hand, B2G companies are relatively close to the periphery.
