Many of you may remember Fr. Tom Wolter, who served the Mary Queen of Heaven community a little over ten years ago. Fr. Tom passed from this life on April 16th. A beautiful funeral Mass was celebrated here at Mary Queen of Heaven on April 29th. Bishop Conlon celebrated the Mass. Bishop Seigel, twenty priests, and many

parishioners, friends, and family were present for the Mass and luncheon that followed.

Fr. Tom was born and raised in Wilmette, before beginning studies at Quigley Preparatory in Chicago. He was formed for priesthood at Mundelein and St. Procopius seminaries. He was ordained in 1966. He was assigned at St. Petronille in Glen Ellyn, St. Pius X in Lombard, St. Laborius in Steger, Holy Ghost in Wood Dale and Holy Trinity, Westmont. He also served as hospital chaplain at Good Samaritan Hospital, Edward Hospital, and Elmhurst Hospital. Fr. Tom left a caring and memorable impact on the hearts of those with whom he ministered. Thank you to Mimi Nolan for compiling the following memories of his care for our parish community:

♦ When Father Tom said the Mass for my brother who was killed. I am forever

grateful he was there. It was such a terrible time for my family. Marie Suchel,

New Beginnings

♦ While he was a hospital chaplain I recall the kindness he extended towards my

mother who was having aneurysm surgery. His homilies were easy to listen to and

even impressed my husband who isn’t even Catholic! Teri Rogers, Parishioner

♦ Assisting Father Tom as a deacon you had to be on your toes because, like God,

you were constantly surprised (in a good way)! Tom Nolan, Deacon

♦ Father Tom ended each Mass with the command to “go forth” providing emphasis

by moving his body forward and pointing the back of the church. Al Senicka,

Parishioner

♦ Welcomed EVERYONE to the Table for at least a blessing if they were not

receiving Eucharist…. especially the children! Joel Bernstein, Parishioner

♦ He always walked fast like he had places to go; smiling all the way! Gail Lewicki,

Parishioner

♦ Always had a welcoming smile! Rose Wilkes, Parishioner

♦ Always started Mass with a smile with an affirmation that it would be a glorious

day! Barbara Dean, Parishioner and part of the morning Mass crew

♦ Fr. Tom was larger than life as he celebrated Mass…no sleeping allowed! Wendy

Bonfiglio, Parishioner

♦ Down to earth, sincere homilies. Ellen Walker, Parishioner

♦ He was a people’s priest. He loved the people, cared for the people and helped

to heal a great many of us. Mimi Nolan, Parishioner

♦ When New Beginnings needed a Shepherd, Fr. Tom came willingly and lovingly.

He helped us feel part of the Church. Debbie Jacobs, New Beginnings

♦ Father Tom’s compassion and loving words through prayer always helped me

during reconciliation, he believed that not only are we forgiven but the best days

are ahead, faith should be a well-developed muscle. Heather Brand, Parishioner

Eternal Rest grant unto him, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon him.

REDISCOVER JESUS- THE THIRD QUESTION (CHAPTER 7)

Point to Ponder: No matter what happens, God loves you. Verse to Live: “Am I now seeking human approval or God’s approval? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still pleasing people, I would not be a servant of Christ.” GALATIANS 1:10 Question to Consider: Do you value yourself anywhere near as much as Jesus values you? Prayer: Jesus, thank you for revealing yourself to me. Thank you for all you have done for me. Thank you for loving me even more than I love myself.

Parishioner Reflection: Dominic Crotty

The third question is who does Jesus say that you are? Remember the first two questions were: “Who do people say that I am?” and “Who do you say that I am?” For those who have come to say Jesus is God, the author thinks we should then have a general understanding of how God views us. Hence, the third question.

Jesus says we are a child of God, a child that is infinitely valuable, and free. But if we choose not to follow God’s path, we are rejecting his love. Note that Jesus does not stop loving us. God’s mercy hinges on our will to reconnect with Him. As the chapter indicates – making Jesus the center of your life is the only sane response to knowing Him. God is love. Jesus affirms God’s love through the resurrection. Imagine those moments you really take joy in your children; and to know that’s how God senses us all the time. That should be an overwhelming feeling…and you’ll know that feeling if you put Christ at center. You’ll know who you are in the eyes of God.
