Scott and Sandi Gardner are not really guests but instead are family who came home. Few things could have provided a bigger joy than to have them back with us! What a lovely moment to see their faces in the Maranatha crowd!

FINANCE:

MARANATHA NEWSLETTER5/5/2023

Boston Avenue United Methodist Church Jim McCann, President

The paintings that David Cooley generously donated are still up for auction/bid. Ed Payton is working on how to have them up loaded to an art website for potential bidding to people outside of our circles. IF you know how to do this or have insight into the art world, please contact Ed Payton as he would be interested in talking to you about this subject.

For any requested class expenditure, please contact a member of the Finance Committee: Bob Russell, Jim Embrey, Dave Grim or Karen Campbell (Emerita) & Jim McCann.

SOCIALS:Hockey, anyone? The Social Committee has organized a group of Maranatha folks to go to the Tulsa Oilers vs. Utah Grizzlies hockey game on Saturday, February 6 at 7:05 p.m. Signup sheets went around on 1/17 and 1/24 and the group tickets were purchased on Monday, 1/25. There is nothing more fun than watching giant padded men bash each other’s teeth out, so we’re hoping for a great evening!

MISSIONS:St. Luke’s Redemption Dinner –Sunday, 1/31 On January 31st, we will be serving dinner for St. Luke’s Redemption Dinner/Meeting. Several people have already signed up to help but anyone else who would like to serve should contact Glenna Arnott or Jim Embrey to participate. Class

MARANATHA NEWSLETTER5/5/2023

members who are serving should bring a cake or pie. The advance team will arrive at 4:00 to begin warming food. Everyone should be finished by 7:00 p.m. Thank you to all for representing Maranatha in this great service.

Sunday Night Live Talent Show & Chili Cook-Off – Sunday, 1/31 At the same date/time as the St. Luke’s mission project, our class has been asked to participate in this all church event to support missions. Due to the seemingly limitless talents of our members, we are able to do it all! Margaret Been has agreed to be our Maranatha Chili Chef, while Susie Butterworth, Margaret Been & Ed Payton will work together to create a Maranatha basket of donated items

for the event’s basket auction. We appreciate these class members stepping up to represent us all. If you are not serving at St. Luke’s, please try to attend the Chili Cook Off to support Margaret’s culinary masterpiece!

Christmas Morning Congregational Brunch - The generosity of this class continually knocks me out! After discussing the matter in class, thirty people committed to give of their time on Christmas Eve Day to set up or Christmas morning to cook, serve and clean up so that Maranatha can serve brunch to the entire church from 9:30 to 10:30 on Christmas morning before the 11:00 service. We will sell tickets to the brunch to know how many we are serving,

MARANATHA NEWSLETTER5/5/2023

Boston Avenue United Methodist Church Jim McCann, President

with the goal being to break even financially. This is not intended as a fundraiser, but we don’t want to dip into our auction funds to pay for the brunch. If we accidentally make money, the profit will be added to our auction funds to be donated to worthy causes within the church. Thank you so much, Maranatha, for embracing this once-in-a-lifetime idea for a special Christmas morning.

APPRECIATION PARTY AND DATE CHANGE – We learned recently that the church staff is planning a big party on Friday, February 26, 2016, to honor our own Shari Goodwin as she retires from her many years of service as Director of Communications for Boston Avenue. David Wiggs has informed us that all of Maranatha will be invited to the party! To make sure that we can all support and celebrate our friend Shari’s accomplishments, we are moving the Maranatha Social previously planned for that night (Private Planetarium Viewing and Los Cabos Dinner) to Friday, March 4th. Please put both events on your calendar and plan to celebrate!
