Team GB went to the European Championships in Rotterdam in good form; Charlotte achieved a top medal
winning score with MSJ Freestyle of nearly 82% only to be disqualified
due to some blood on the mare’s side after the test was finished. In spite of
the drama, we missed out on the medals by only1% in 4th team place with personal bests all round from
Gareth Hughes, Carl Hester and Charlotte Fry. BDSC members were
there in force to cheer our team on,
thanks to Lorrie!
Our Para riders also did us proud, coming home with a clutch of medals
from the Europeans.
Carl, on Nip Tuck (Barney) became
National Champion at Stoneleigh in the summer; his 10th Championship
and his 67th National title! Brilliant weather this year for a change and some won-
derful dressage.
The World Cup Qualifier
in Lyon was a battle royal between Charlotte and Isabell Werth, with Charlotte winning the GP & Isabell
the FSM.
All good news for Tokyo 2020!

BD NATIONAL
CONVENTION - Addington
23/24 November
’Develop to Perform’ with
Michael Eilberg, Daniel Bachman Andersen and
Chris Bartle.
Two absorbing, interesting
and informative days which
concentrated on the Scales of Training, with logical,
practical, detailed training
and explanations. Horses ranged from 14.2 ponies to
an ex-HOYS Supreme
Working Hunter champion. Analysis, discussion and
practical exercises made
noticeable improvements to
all the horses and riders.
Michael and Chris, cross-discipline advocates, and
one convert - Daniel - who
is taking home to Denmark some ideas for pole work
for his young horses!
The best Convention yet.
Well done BD! More please.

Dear Members & Friends
Welcome to our Autumn/Winter Newsletter 2019.
Hopefully those of you in the North are surviving the terrible weather and keeping as dry as possible.
Lorrie Sisson organised a terrific trip to Rotterdam for the European Championships in August, and we were so pleased to see some wonderful dressage. Congratulations to all riders and para riders who
represented GB.
Another highlight of the year was our now annual visit to Carl Hester’s yard organised by Andrea. You can never tire of watching Carl and Charlotte work-ing together. Hopefully we will have another visit in 2020.
As ever your committee made every effort to com-plete the Club’s sponsorships. We had our usual marquees at Hickstead and the Nationals; many of you visited us, enjoyed our hospitality and watched some great dressage.
I look forward to catching up with many of you in 2020. Meanwhile, have a great Christmas.

Inside Story Headline
EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS TRIP TO ROTTERDAM
Fifteen nations sent teams to Rotterdam and, for a moment, it seemed as if Britain had won Silver in the team event. The disap-pointment was palpable when supporters learned that Charlotte
Dujardin had been disqualified, which left Britain in fourth place having missed Bronze by 1%. Even so performances had been inspiring with Gareth Hughes putting up his best ever score and new team member Charlotte Fry would have made her late mother, Laura, very proud. The competition overall was very exciting; although Germany dominated there were many quality tests. Judy Reynolds, riding for Ireland on 17 year old Vancouver K, fully deserved a lot of flag waving from the BDSC supporters who found themselves in possession of Irish flags, courtesy of Dane Rawlins! The Dressage venue was set in a beautiful wooded park which
provided much needed respite from the heat in the arena. It was sweltering but worth every minute! On our ‘days off’ some members watched the Paras while others toured Rotterdam and Amsterdam. Central Rotterdam is noted for its vibrant culture; the street sculpture and architecture were awesome. The apartments were built in the 1980’s, three stories
high and centrally located, as was our hotel, which was excellent and convenient for the huge food hall, innumerable cafes and restaurants and the railway station. Thanks as always to Lorrie Sisson’s organisational skills all ran smoothly and it was a most enjoyable trip. Gill Gallagher
