War of 1812 US was angry over

impressment. British were supplying

weapons to Native Americans to fight American settlers. War Hawks demanded war.

American military was small and underfunded but the British were occupied with France in Europe. British burnt Washington

D.C. Andrew Jackson was very

successful in New Orleans. US wins the war.

Consequences of the war. 1. End of the

Federalist Party 2. Growth of

American industry.

3. Confirms the US is free and independent.

War ends with the Treaty of Ghent in 1814.
