Words and numbersHelping children get to grips with literacy and numeracy

Work with individual children to make numbers fun or to help them develop their reading, comprehension and verbal skills

Time: One lunchtime a week or fortnight

Process: Training at Lloyd’s, CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) form. Match you up with a child.

Weekly commitment for one term (12 weeks) but some people do it for years.

Commitment important for the child but there is flexibility as long as you give notice.

Support young people to develop the skills they will require to tackle the world of work

Time: One or two hours each month or one-off workshops

Hackney school Mentoring Programme: Lunch’n’Learn at Mitsui. Training at Lloyd’s. CRB (Criminal Records Bureau). October-June commitment.

One-off workshops: Employability days (first impressions, presentation skills, CV writing).
