POWER SUPPLY

AC POWER OPERATIONConnect one end of the mains lead 10 [AC INPUT]socket (Fig. 2) on the unit and the other end to theAC outlet.

NOTES:When the mains lead is connected to the unit,the installed batteries will be automaticallydisconnected.

- The FUNCTION switch is mounted on thesecondary side. The unit is not disconnectedfrom mains, even switched off.

BATTERY POWER OPERATION (Fig. 3)1. Open the battery compartment lid by pushing

down on the tabs.

2, Install 8 “C” and 4 “AA size batteries (notsupplied). Refer to the polarity diagram on theback of the unit. Match the (+) and(-) marks onthe diagram to the (+) and (-) marks on thebatteries.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

l’ufwr memory txicbup hattiwlesIf 4 “AA” cell batteries are installed, theTuner memory contents have been set willbe retained even if the power should fail or

the C batteries should run down.- When the mains lead is kept plugged into

the outlet (energized state), theconsumption of the memory back-upbattery power can be reduced.

3. Replace the lid.

CAUTION:WHEN INSTALLING BATTERIESTo prevent battery electrolyte leakage, whichmay result in injury and damage to the unit orother objects, observe the following precautions:

2. Do not mix new with old or used batteries.3. Only use batteries of the same lype and

Both 8 cm and 12 cm discs can be played inthis unit.NOTE:Place only one disc at a time in the CDcompartment.

- Only disc bearing the logo in Fig. 7 can beplayed in this unit.

off the disc’s signal surface (opposite thelabeled side) with a soft cloth. Gently wipe in a

straight motion from the inside kI !h~ outside ofthe disc.Discs should be returned to their cases afterused to avoid serious scratche$ that could

cause Ihe player to skip,Do not expose a disc to direct sunlight, highhumidity, or high temperatures for extendedperiods of time to prevent warping the disc.

Do not stick paper or write anything with aballpoint pen on a disc.Do not use cleaners or antistatic srxavs ondiscs, like those used for phonograph re;ords.

LQADING A DISC

2. Press [CD OPEN]. The lid will open.3. Place a disc carefullyon the turntable in the CD

compatiment, with the label side facing up(Fig. 8).

4. Push [PUSH TO CLOSE] on the lid to close it.Thedi$play will showthetolal number (Max.99)of tracks on disc,

NOTES:if a disc is loaded upside down, or if no disc is

loaded, the CD player will not operate.During CD play, do not open the CDcompartment lid. Always press [STOP/CLEAR]and wait for the disc to stop rotating beforeopening the CD compartment lid.

NORMAL PLAY1. Press [PLAY/PAUSE]. Play will begin with

track number 1.The following information is displayed:

The current track number- Play indicator ( b )NOTE:To start play from the desired track, select thetrack by using [SKIP/SEARCH] 1<4 or ➤>1,then press [PLAY/PAUSE].

2. Adjust [VOLUME], [TONE] and[BASSXPANDEiR] CMdesired,

3, Press [STOP/CLEAFf] to stop play at any time,When the last track has played, the CD playerwill automatically stop.

Temporarily stopping play

Press [PLAY/PAUSE] during play, ” h” blinks, Toresume play, press [PLAY/PAUSE] again.

Track skip

track, Play will continue from the beginning of Ihenew track.

Search (forward/reverse)If [SKIP/SEARCH] 14< or ➤>1 is pressed duringplay, the CD player will search at high speed in thefOrWar~ or reverse direction while the button is

being pressed, Track number blinks. When thebutton is released, normal play will continue.

Repeat play

This function allows all the tracks on a disc or theprogrammed tracks only to be played repeatedly.

Press [REPEAT/FM MODE] before play or during

play, “REP” appears,To cancel the repeat play function, press [REPEAT/

FM MODE] again.

PROGRAMMED PLAYWith programmed play, up to 16 tracks on a disccan be memorized and played in any order.

In this example, tracks 1-8 on a 10-track disc areentered into the unit’s program memory, for play inthe order shown in Fig. 9.

LISTENING TO THE RADIO

UP/DOWN TUNING1. Set [FUNCTION] to RADIO.2. Press [BAND] to-select the desired band (FM

or AM).

Automatic tuning3. Press and hold down ~LfNING] + or – for at

least 1 second.

The unit will scan up or down the band andreceive the next receivable station.Press ~UNING] + or - again to continue.

Manual tuning

3. Press and release ~UNING] + or- repeatedlyuntil the desired station frequency appears on

the display,

4. Adjust [V~LLffd~], [TONE] and[BASSXPANDER] as desired.

AarialsFor FM reception, pull out the telescoping aerialand determine the direction, length and angle foroptimum reception.For AM reception, the aerial inside the unit is

TUNfNG INTO PROGRAMMED STATIONS

Preset scan tuning1, Press [BAND] to select the desired band.

2, Press and hold down [PSCAN] for at least 1second. “PS’ blinks.The programmed stations are tuned in to

successively for about 5 seconds each.3. If [P. SCAN] is pressed within about 5 seconds

when a desired station has been tuned in to,that station will stay tuned in to.

LISTENING TO TAPE

NOTES:Do not use the endless tape.

- Use the normal tape (TYPE l).

PLAYBACK1. Set [FUNCTION] to TAPE.

2. Press [STOP/EJECT].The cassetle holder opens.

3. Load the cassette into the cassette holder.4. Close the cassette holder.5. Press [PLAY].

6, Adjust [VQLUMFJ, [TONE] and[BASSXPANDER] aa deslrr?rd.

7. Press [.STOP/EJECT] to stop playback at anytime. When the end of the tape has beenreached, automatic stop will be activated.

Pause

Press [PAUSE] 10temporarily slop the Iape during

ploylxmk or recording, Prow il ogain 10 continuo.

Fast Forward and RewindPress [FFWD] or [REW] to quickly wind the tapeforward or backward. Press [STOP/EJECT] toslop the tape.When the end of the tape is reached, the tape willstop, and [FFWD] or [REW] will be automatically

released.

Full automatic stop

This unit has a full-release stop system, to protect

the tape and prevent pinch roller damage. Whenthe end of the tape Is reached in Playback,

Recording, Fast forward or Rewind, the tapemechanism will automatically stop.

Alternate tuning method1. Press [BAND] to select the desired band.2. Press [P. SCAN] to display the number of the

preset of your choice.Tap [P. SCAN] lightly.

PREVENTION OF ACCIDENTAL ERASUREAccidental erasure of important recordings can be

prevented by breaking out the labs at the back of

the cassette tape, (Fig, 10)Break out tab A for side 1 or side A.Break out tab B for side 2 or side B.If a tab has been broken OUI in error and the tapeis to be used for another recording, simply adheresome cellophane tape over the tab hole and thetape can be rerecorded.

MAINTENANCE

Cfeaning the unitDo not use volatile chemicals on this unit(insecticides, etc.). Clean by lightly wiping with asoft cloth.

Cleaning the tape headsFor continued high performance from the cassettesection, periodically clean the heads, pinch rollerand capstan whenever an accumulation of dustand red-brown oxide particles is noticed.1. Press [STOP/EJECT] to open the cassette

holder.

2. Press [R!32] while pushing in the lever asilltie.iwtim(Fig. 11)

3. Carefully rub each head (4, 5), pinch roller (3)and capstan (2) with a cotton swab (1)moistened with isopropyl alcohol or specialhead-cleaning fluid. (Fig. 12)

Cleaning the CD player lens (Fig. 13)If dust is on the lens, blow the dust away by usinga blower. (Please consult your dealer.)

The lens should never be touched. However, If afingerprint does get the lens, wipe it gently by usinga cotton swab moistened with isorxorwl alcohol.(Please consult your dealer.) ‘ ‘ ‘

NOTAS:- Si un disco es cargado cara abajo, o si nose

carga disco alguno, el reproductor de CD nofuncionara.Durante la reproduction CD, no abra la tapa delcompartimiento CD. Presione siempre [STOP/CLEAR] yespere que el disco pare de girarantesde abrir la tapa del compartimienfo de CD.
