Camera Basics

Objectives

» Know˃ Install battery˃ Insert media card˃ Lens mounting˃ Power controls˃ Focus modes˃ Record modes

» Show˃ Install a battery, insert the media card, turn on camera˃ Select focus mode and record mode

» Level˃ Knowledge

Battery

» Lithium-Ion Battery» Rechargable» Do NOT put anything

but THIS specific battery in the cameras!

Install Battery

» Open compartment cover by sliding tab

» Insert battery. It will only go in one way, look at shape of the compartment.

» Close compartment cover. You will feel it click.

» NEVER FORCE IT.

Memory Cards

» Lots of different types of cards

» SD most common» SD is what all the

school cameras use

Memory Cards

» Never touch the contacts (gold metal looking tabs)

» Watch the “lock” switch on the card – it will prevent your camera or computer from reading the card

Install Card

» Slide the memory card slot door towards back of camera

» It will swing open» Slide the card, label

facing you, until it clicks into place

» NEVER FORCE IT

Attach a Lens

» Line up the white dots on the lens and the body

» Insert the lens into the mount

» Rotate the lens ¼ turn CCW until it clicks into place

» Canon, is of course, DIFFERENT

Power On

» AFTER the battery, memory card, and lens are installed, you can turn on the camera

» The power switch is on top of the camera, in front of the mode dial

Shooting Modes

» Turn the mode dial so that the little white tick mark points at the mode you want

» Good starter – Program Auto

Focusing

» Lens Focus Mode Switch to “A” for Auto

» “M” is for manual focusing, where you use the focus ring and do it yourself

Take a picture!

» Press the shutter release button halfway down to focus (& activate light meter)

» Press it all the way down to take a picture

Playback

» Press playback button to see picture(s) you took

» Use D-pad to navigate through your pictures

» Use trash can to delete
