I came to Meridian to improve my English and I wanted to join a school that was close to the sea. I want to go to university to study Civil Engineering so I need my English to be good enough. When I arrived, I didn’t really know what to expect and was quite nervous, so I didn’t socialise much with the other students. My teachers encouraged me to get to know my classmates and they were encouraged to get to know me. As soon as I got to know my fellow students, my confidence grew and my language ability increased dramatically. I have been studying General English in the morning and IELTS in the afternoon as I want to take the IELTS exam. The teachers have been amazing. I have had to work really hard but I have made excellent progress and will soon be ready for the exam and, hopefully, a place at University. I am investing in my future. I have made some great friends here. In fact, they are more than friends; they are like brothers. Everyone in Meridian is very friendly and helped me with any problems I have. I really like being in England the people are friendly, the city feels safe and there are always lots of things to do and places to go. I would recommend Meridian School of English to anyone thinking of studying in the UK.

I came to Meridian via an agent. The main reason for my study is because I would like to travel more and meet more people. I studied Anthropology at university in China and am very interested in people in general. As English is spoken all over the world, it makes sense to invest in English language learning as it opens up a lot of opportunities.
I stayed at Meridian for 16 weeks. I really enjoyed studying and learning English with my teachers who were very friendly to me. I felt more and more confident with my speaking and listening. They always tried their best to help me improve. They really love students in this school. I met other students from all over the world. My classmates were from 8 different countries so I also learned about different cultures; a great experience for me.
Another important part of my English learning was my host family. I experienced an authentic British home life with them; for example: traditional cooking - which is actually very good. I travelled with them to see some of Plymouth’s most beautiful views while also exercising their dog.
Near the school there are lots of beautiful beaches and cliffs and lots of quiet, traditional English towns and villages. Every weekend I enjoyed travelling with my teachers and classmates. It’s never boring.

OVERVIEWStudents develop their English language skills through listening, speaking, reading and writing. They practise and improve their pronunciation and grammar using a variety of media, including course books and specially prepared lessons based on the needs of the class. The lessons are classroom-based and students work individually, in pairs, and in small groups. An individual learning plan is created for each student and a certificate awarded at the end of the course. Teachers provide advice and guidance for students who wish to continue their studies when they return home.

AUDIENCE
Anyone who wants to improve their English. All levels of ability from A1 to C2 (CEFR scale). The programme is available for 15, 19 or 23 hours per week for any number of weeks beginning any Monday (except public holidays). Students must be 16 years of age or older. Average class size is 6 students; maximum class size is 12 students. General English can be taken in combination with other courses; for example, 15 hours of General English per week with 8 hours of Exam Preparation.
