    Placement Test

On first day students will sit a placement test to determine their level. Classes do not normally commenceuntil day 2.

    Timetables

Day 1 consists of placement test and orientation when students learn more information about their course, the city, accommodation and activities.

Classes usually start on day 2. Students may find that they are joining a class which already exists. This isperfectly normal and is because students arrive on different dates and stay for different lengths of time. Theimportant thing is that each week is a separate teaching unit and students will be placed in the class which ismost appropriate for their level of English. Teachers will help integrate new students into the group.

At peak times students might study in the afternoon instead of the morning. While every attempt will bemade to accommodate any specific requests it might not be possible during these times to guarantee eithermorning or afternoon only.

    Homestay Accommodation

All Embassy homestays are required to meet the criteria laid out in our published HomestayGuidelines and are inspected regularly by our accommodation staff. The most important thing forstudents and parents to know is that by choosing homestay, a student will be sharing someones homeand the hospitality of the family. As modern life has developed over the last decade, homestays maybe different from the traditional family structure to which some students may be accustomed in their owncountries. The key point is that whether the homestay is composed of a single person or a traditionalfamily, all have a proven track record of receiving, caring for and enjoying hosting international

    students.

Bedrooms Standard sized bed with bedside table lamp. Sheet and pillowcases are provided and changed each

week. Towels also provided (but not for swimming) Adequately sized wardrobe and drawer space for each students clothing and possessions Table or desk and chair for private study (or access to a study area) for long stay students

Laundry A reasonable amount of laundry included in the household wash once a week

Telephone Students are asked to use prepaid phone cards to make calls. These can be purchased from student

services or most convenience stores. Students should try to ensure any calls for them are received

    after 8am (9am weekends) and before 9pm

Keys Students are normally provided with door keys. If not, alternative arrangements for access are madewith the student

    Meals

Options to have room only, half board and full board Evening meal normally served from 18.00

Students sharing No speakers of the same native language in the same homestay, except by request. There are

normally no more than 3 students per house.

Distance from schoolThe majority of our homestay are within 60 minutes journey by public transport.

Type of houseThe residential areas around Embassy Long Beach are full of modern style houses some from the 50s and60s, and some within the past year. Almost all have small gardens with trees and some have swimmingpools.

Guest Room with breakfastLos Angeles is a very busy and modern city. We have relationships with some Los Angeles locals who do nothave time to formally host a student, but who wish to offer a room to a student. In this case, the intent isnot a host family style arrangement where a family takes a student into their home and cooks and socializeswith the student often, as a guest in a new country. This option provides a more casual relationship which is

very similar to a roommate relationship. Dinner is not provided, though this option offers a more affordableplan. More independent students who prefer to make their own friends and explore by themselves, findthis option very attractive indeed.
