The best applications of infrared thermography in cardiology are:

- diagnostics and differential diagnostics of cardiac neurosis;

- differential diagnostics of arterial hypertension at early stages;

- early diagnostics of cardiopathy and coronary heart disease.

Infrared thermography is a very suitable method, because it’s fast, reliable, non-contact and absolutely safe for patient and doctor. Infrared thermography has no limitations and can be successfully applied in mass screening procedures.

Cardiac neurosis, or vegetative dystonia, is a very frequent disease, especially in young people. This disease is not very easy for differential diagnostics, because its non-specific clinical manifestations may be first symptoms of a lot of diseases, such as Raynaud’s syndrome, arterial hypertension etc.

Cardiac NeurosisCardiac Neurosis

Main thermovisual manifestations of cardiac neurosis are thermal asymmetry of the forehead and hypothermia of the distal part of the palms.

According to the thermograms of the palm, differential diagnosis can be made. If the area of the hypothenar is cold (above Shao-Fu acupuncture point), it indicates the hypotonic type of cardiac neurosis; if this area is warm, it is the hypertonic or cardiac type.

Cardiac NeurosisCardiac Neurosis

The cardiac neurosis is a very unstable disease and there are a lot of individual manifestations of it. In some cases simple thermovisual examinations can not clarify the clinical picture, and, in these cases, special thermographic stress-tests are applied.

In differential diagnostics of cardiac neurosis two tests are used: warm test and cooling test.Both of them are very sensitive and allow detecting serious circulatory diseases at early stages.

WARM TESTThe palms must be put into warm water with a 37°C temperature for 1 minute. Thermograms are made every 5 min for 20-30 min.

COLD TESTThe palms must be put into cold water with a 10-12°C temperature for 1 minute. Thermograms are made after 10, 15, 20 and 30 min.

Thermovisual diagnostics of the early stage of essential arterial hypertension is based on the detection of the cold area on the distal external part of the forearm (location of Wai-Guan acupuncture point). In the case of occasional increasing of the blood pressure, this point remains normal.

CardiopathyCardiopathy

In the case of cardiopathy, the internal angle of the wrist (location of Shen-Men acupuncture point) becomes cold. This is a non-spesific symptom and could be found in coronary heart diseases, thyroid, diabetic, toxic and other types of cadiopathy.
