Research
For most of the advanced applications, there is a dominant requirement that nanoparticles in fact
have organized assemblies with well defined spatial separation, both in solution and solid state. Such
self-assembly usually consists of intricate building units that are used to create well defined
structures with multi-dimensional ordering. The resulting self-organized structures give rise to inter-
nanoparticle interactions ranging from dipole-dipole interactions to exchange interactions such as
delocalization of carriers. These are then the cause of the overall novel properties exhibited by the
organized supra-particle assembly. Current research activities are focused on the various
perspectives of such functional supramolecular structures (mainly semiconductors, perovskite
materials, photocatalyst, chalcogenides, biomolecules, layered materials, noble metal etc.).
Specifically it involve:
Materials Chemistry- Development of novel versatile synthetic approaches based on soft chemistry
to fabricate a variety of functional materials possessing mainly metal oxide frameworks, perovskites,
chalcogenides, and noble metals (Au, Ag and Pt etc.) for various applications such as opto-electronic,
biosensor and photocatalysis etc. Exploration of fundamental insight into the science of structure-
property relationship of hierarchical nanostructures.
Engineered Nanostructured Materials for Solar Hydrogen Generation- Exploration and
engineering corrosion-resistant photocatalyst-semiconductors that exhibit the optimal conduction and
valence band edge alignment for PEC applications. An understanding of surface chemistry /
electrochemistry / band gap engineering involved in photo-catalysis. Design of bio-
photoelectrochemical systems to mimic the natural photosynthesis for energy generation.
Host-Guest Chemistry- Encapsulation studies of bio-/organic- molecules which are susceptible to
their spatial confinement and their interactions with the surrounding species. Fabrication of stimuli
responsive biodegradable polymer nanostructures for targeted drug delivery applications.
Nanostructured Hydroxyapatite-titania Bio-implant Scaffolds- Development porous
nanostructured HAp scaffolds with improved mechanical strength, corrosion resistance and cellular
biocompatibility.
