We have the best-marked claims in Ameri- ca. We are having trouble with trespassers, meaning claim jumpers. There has been serious damage to the Cass 5 claim and problems on the Karen Lynn as well. There is a blocked ac- cess issue on Rich Hill and the RRPC lock missing on the entrance to the claim on Map 1. We (the Board) received notice but without supporting information there is little we can do other than go out and clean up the mess. If you are on any of the Roadrunner Claims and you see people (non-members) involved in digging or any way taking gold, please get the infor- mation to us. We can only act when we can identify people. While I have said it many times, it is worth repeating, don’t be confrontational. This is a recreation activity where we have a chance of finding gold, but we do not want anyone getting shot by a claim jumper who does not realize we are living in the 21 st century. Upon receipt of specific information, we will no- tify the authorities or our attorney as necessary. We also have an active claims patrol check- ing for badges. If you are asked for your badge, which you should be wearing, the proper re- sponse is to show your badge not to say “we don’t need any stinking badges”. Unfortunately, we have had to postpone our assessment dig for the February outing. The outing has been moved to the Oro De Valenzuela claim on Map 27. Hopefully, the water will be running for some good dredging. I will be there; the good Lord willing and the creek don’t rise. That is an expression that you may have heard from time to time, but I’ll bet you don’t know where it came from. Originally, I understand it dates to Andy Jackson (the guy on the $20 bill). What was referred to was the Creek Indian nation rising up against the settlers; that was a real problem in those days. On another note, there is a gold show on February 9 th and 10 th at the Mesa Convention Center. While its’ sponsored by the GPAA, I will still attend and look around. PRESIDENTS CORNER

I hope the real cold is past; I would like to get out and do some prospecting Now that Chuck

Horner and his intrepid group have about finished with the present claims marking, I should

have less trouble determining exactly where I am. We have the best-marked claims in Ameri-

ca. We are having trouble with trespassers, meaning claim jumpers. There has been serious

damage to the Cass 5 claim and problems on the Karen Lynn as well. There is a blocked ac-

cess issue on Rich Hill and the RRPC lock missing on the entrance to the claim on Map 1.

We (the Board) received notice but without supporting information there is little we can do

other than go out and clean up the mess. If you are on any of the Roadrunner Claims and you

see people (non-members) involved in digging or any way taking gold, please get the infor-

mation to us. We can only act when we can identify people. While I have said it many times,

it is worth repeating, don’t be confrontational. This is a recreation activity where we have a

chance of finding gold, but we do not want anyone getting shot by a claim jumper who does

not realize we are living in the 21st century. Upon receipt of specific information, we will no-

tify the authorities or our attorney as necessary. We also have an active claims patrol check-

ing for badges. If you are asked for your badge, which you should be wearing, the proper re-

sponse is to show your badge not to say “we don’t need any stinking badges”.

Unfortunately, we have had to postpone our assessment dig for the February outing. The

outing has been moved to the Oro De Valenzuela claim on Map 27. Hopefully, the water will

be running for some good dredging. I will be there; the good Lord willing and the creek don’t

rise. That is an expression that you may have heard from time to time, but I’ll bet you don’t

know where it came from. Originally, I understand it dates to Andy Jackson (the guy on the

$20 bill). What was referred to was the Creek Indian nation rising up against the settlers; that

was a real problem in those days.

On another note, there is a gold show on February 9th and 10th at the Mesa Convention

Center. While its’ sponsored by the GPAA, I will still attend and look around. If you see me,

please introduce yourself. That’s all for now, see you next month and be safe out there.

2013 Plans of Operations Extension

Included in this month’s newsletter is a renewal let-

ter from Prescott National Forest extending our Plan

of Operations for 2013. Please remove the 2012

PNF Plan of Operations extension letter and insert

the 2013 letter in its place. This letter and the Plan

of Operations stipulations must be with you at all

times when working claims in Prescott National

Forest.

Please comply with the mining restrictions noted in

the letter. 23 claims are closed from January 1

through April 15. The 6 Copper Basin claims have

a dredging restriction from February 1 through July

31. 4 claims in Crooks Canyon are closed from

March 1 through August 31.

Annual Dues and Maintenance Fees

Thank you to those who have paid their annual dues

and maintenance fees. The club appreciates your

support. For those who have not yet paid, please

send in your payments as soon as possible. Please

remember that the AMF fee this year is $44.00. If

you have already sent in a $20 payment (the old

fee), please remit the additional $24.00 as soon as

possible. If you are not sure how much you owe for

2013, please email the club and we will respond in

a timely fashion – [email protected]

or call the office and leave a message: 602 274-

2521, and someone will return your call.

Milestones

Clarence “Red” Halpny passed away on Jan. 9,

2013.

He was 90 yrs old and was one of the early mem-

bers of the club.

Clarence and wife, Marilyn from Gold Canyon, AZ

joined the club in 1986.

Did you know? Some plastics will take 100 years or more to break-

down or degrade. So it makes sense that we all need

to consider recycling, or at the very least, clean up

the desert area when you leave. A good rule of

thumb is to haul out more then you brought in,

as future generations will thank you. This is just

basic information that all responsible adults should

know already. It is hard to understand why someone

would go into the desert and leave the mess that one

of our club members, Ken Hill, found on our Cass 5

claim. Besides filling in holes, Ken took the time to

cleanup this trash that another person left. This is a

good example of why the majority of us suffer when

the BLM comes to call. Please respect the environ-

ment as you enjoy the privilege of prospecting our

claims.

A mess just like this was cleaned up on the upper

Cass claims on Saturday 2-2-13 by Carol Nickel

while we were on claims patrol. We hauled off a

large garbage bag of beer bottles, cans and other

trash and moved the rocks forming the fire pit.
