Don't say I lost the battle, for it was God's war to lose or win. Please don't say how good I was but that I did my best. Just say I tried to do what's right, to give the most I could, not less. Please don't give me wings or halos, that's for God to do. I want no more than I deserve. No extras, just my due. Please don't give flowers, or talk in harsh tones. Don't be concerned about me now, I'm well with God, I have made it home. Don't talk about what could have been, its over and done. Just see to all my family needs. The battle has been won! When you draw a picture of me, don't draw me as a saint. I've done some good, I've done some wrong…So use all of your paint. Not just the bright and light tones. Use some gray and dark. In fact, don't put me down on canvas, just paint me in your heart. Don't just remember all the good times, but remember all the bad, For life is full of many things. Some happy and some sad. But if you must do something, then I have one last request: Forgive me for the wrongs I've done and with the love that's left, Thank God for my soul's resting. Thank God for all who loved me, and praise God who love me the best. • Johnnie Murray Johnson Sr. was born July 18, 1953 in Memphis TN. to Thomas William Johnson and Bessie Mae Johnson. He was the youngest of eight children. Johnnie was baptized at a young age and attended Greater Bethlehem church. He began his education at Cregier Vocational High School before he enlisted in the U.S Navy at the age of 16 years old during the Vietnam War. He re-ceived basic and advanced training at the Great Lakes Naval Base in North Chicago. His MOS position was Boatswain Mate and was assigned to the U.S.S Blue Ridge. After two and a half years of service, Johnnie ventured out into Entrepreneur-ship through music, published writing as well as managing Johnson’s Con-struction Company in which he was the owner. In addition to being Precinct Captain, volunteering at PTA meetings and mentoring other veterans he had a heart of love. He was recognized for his service and support to the community by the Lake County Probation Volunteer Program in which he devoted his life to helping Veterans. He was a selfless person who cared for others even while fighting for his own needs and health. With over 15 years in the North Chicago community Johnnie developed spe-cial bonds with friends who viewed him as family in the neighborhood of Heritage Green apartments. Johnnie was a vibrant spirit whose best gift was spreading a calming love throughout the lives he encountered. He would break out in a song, pinch jaws of his beloved girls, or come to the rescue without notice for those he loved. Some of his favorite things to say were, “What it be like that though”, “copasetic”, and “I’m fair for an ole square.” He was a loving father, brother, granddaddy, uncle, cousin and friend to many. Johnnie departed this life on Wednesday November 8th, 2017. His father Thomas William Johnson, mother Bessie Mae Johnson, brothers Manuel Dave Johnson and William Oscar Johnson preceded him in death. He leaves to always hold fond memories in their hearts: His two Daughters: LaToya Walker (Kelvin) and Katrina Johnson; two sons: Johnnie Johnson Jr. and David Thomas Johnson; two grandchildren: Kaleah Walker and Kelvin Walker Jr.; two sisters: Mary Benson, Sallie Ann McClellan: three brothers: Roy Lee Martin, Thomas Matthew Johnson “Bubba” (Carrie), Jimmie Glen Johnson (Beverly). A host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, mentees, mentors as well as Doctors.

Perhaps you were not there at all, Just thought of us this day. Whatever you did to console our hearts, We thank you so much, what-ever the part. The Family of Johnnie M. Johnson, Sr.
