A BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN GEOGRAPHYGeography is an all-encompassing discipline that involves the interdisciplinary study of places and the relationships between people and their environment from a spatial perspective. As an academic subject, it includes an understanding of both the physical environment and the cultural world of international affairs, economics, population, religion, language, and other human phenomena. Geography also entails the use and application of a host of geospatial technologies as a means to study this subject matter. For an individual curious about the world, and their place in it, few disciplines satisfy that curiosity as much as geography.

At Sam Houston State, geography majors can choose to focus their studies around one of three concentrations:

FIELD STUDIESGeography students have the opportunity to participate in field study courses in a variety of locations in order to experience the processes and concepts learned in the classroom. Past locations have included the Mississippi Delta, Hawaii, Thailand, Spain, Brazil, Cuba, and Ecuador.

SCHOLARSHIPSStudents may apply for geography scholarships and non-degree specific scholarships by completing the Scholarships4Kats online application. Transfer scholarships are available for students who would like to continue their academic career at Sam Houston. SHSU provides a quality education at an affordable cost.
