SampleGetting to Know the World Outside the Campus

It’s necessary for college students to know the world outside the campus. For one thing, it can make students know themselves so that they can modify their way in studies. For another, it will lay foundation for their future career. Finally, they can practice their abilities in management, organization and so on.

There are many ways for students to get to know the outside world. First, they can know the world from mass media, such as newspapers, TV, radio, magazines and advertisements which provide information about political events, social news, the latest development in science and technology and so forth. Second, they can know the world from social services, such as job-hunting, private teaching which offer students themselves the opportunities to know the society. Third, students can also make some investigations in factories and villages, talking with the workers or farmers to learn their experiences.

As a student, I think the first I should do is to study hard to lay a good foundation for my future job. And I can do some part-time jobs to gain personal experience about the world outside the campus.

Sample Student Use of Computer With computers becoming more and more easily accessible on campus, colle

ge students are spending more time than ever doing routine tasks electronically in the last decade. In 1990, for example, the average number of hours a student spent on the computer per week was less than 2 hours. Up to 2000, however, time spent on the computer increased suddenly to almost 20 hours a week.

Most reasons account for this growing trend. The last decade has witnessed an astonishing development in IT industry: the use of computers are more diversified; their costs are significantly cut down; and the software is becoming more and more user-friendly. On the campus, for example, students may study many courses on computers, surf online for the latest information in their fields, and contact the outside world through web more frequently and conveniently.

The easy access to computers on the campus may also bring some problems. The research-and-education-based use accounts for smaller portion of the whole use, either because the development of subject-related software lag behind, or because students are more caught up in computer entertainment such as playing video games, and chatting online. Therefore, more attention should be called to the wise and academic use of computers on the campus.

Should the University Campus Be Open to Tourists?

One can always find visitors taking pictures and enjoying the scenery on university campus. During the May Day Holiday, National Day Holiday, summer and winter vacations, many University campuses become popular tourist sites.

People have different ideas about whether the university campus should be open to tourists. Some hold the idea that university should embrace tourists from across the country. In contrast, others think that the university campus should be closed to tourists.

In my opinion, university campus should be open to tourists. First of all, a university should be an open place and instill the spirit of openness in its students. Furthermore, in our country, it is the people who pay the tax and support the university. Thirdly, the university should improve itself to meet the increasing demands. Therefore the university should welcome all tourists.
