“BLUE SKIES AND TAILWINDS”

The Carr fire has consumed us all this

past month. A big shout out and thank

you to every club in the district. You

have volunteered time, goods and mon-

ey towards the effort to help those affect-

ed by the fire. We saw every side you

could imagine, from those families that

had homes burned to the ground, those

who lost employment because of the

fire, families evacuated and families tak-

ing in those who had no place to go.

Every one in this area was affected in

some degree by this devasting fire.

This fire is now 100% contained but the

need for help continues. We will be

closing down our district relief center in

a week or two, but we will be taking on

helping with the recovery process. We

do not know yet what form of help will

be needed, but we will be working with

the organization that will be identifying

those with unmet needs, those falling

through the cracks. LCIF has grants to

help with the recovery phase that we are

hoping to utilize.

The main thing that I have taken away

from this disaster is how all our clubs

have come together and cooperated dur-

ing this time of need. There was no

question, our members stepped up, or-

ganized and got our relief center up and

running in a short period of time.

The organizational effort was immense,

but was accomplished in an organized

and professional manner. This whole

effort is a shining example of our Lions

motto “We Serve”.

I finally had a chance to fly with a stu-

dent this past week. There was still a lot

of smoke, but I could see the devasta-

tion around Whiskeytown and the

homes that were damaged or destroyed

near Benton Airpark. It was hard to take

all that in, I cannot imagine going back

to my house and see nothing left.

Thank you all for your help and prayers

as our community works through this

crisis.

GRIP IT AND RIP IT!

First off, THANK YOU District 4-C1 Lions for your support of the Relief Center for the

past month! We have served 790+ families, equating to over 2100 people. Your dona-

tions and time have been of extreme value and greatly appreciated!

Moving forward into long term recovery mode is in process as I write this article. We

will know more soon and update you as information becomes available.

Moving away from the fire activities, DG Sue will begin to resume her visitations and I

am looking forward to accompanying her on as many of them as my work schedule will

allow. I would love to be able to visit all of you before next year, but work right now is

taking precedence. I appreciate all of your understanding.

I sincerely look forward to hearing about all of the clubs activities and projects. District

4-C1 is allows busy and serving and I love hearing about all of your successes.

I hope to see many of you at the September 15th Cabinet Meeting in Paradise. Please

know these meetings are for EVERYONE, not just officers or cabinet members. We

provide training opportunities and information regarding Lionism that is coming from

the “top”.

Reality has begun to sink in for my DG preparation as I am already receiving sign-up

sheets for my District Governor training. How did that happen?!? I imagine for the

next 10 months I am going to be very busy preparing.

Thank you for your continued support!

Yours in Service;

District 4-C1 Information & Club News

Hello fellow Lions,

I am writing this article about the relief efforts and success we have had for the Carr Fire Disaster Relief

Center.

District Governor Sue Kerr of Northeast California Lions District 4C1 has established a Lions Fire Relief

Center to provide food and recovery items for fire victims. The Lions Fire Relief Center, established on

August 5, 2018, in the Cobblestone Shopping Center at 110 Hartnell Avenue, Suite 60, Redding, CA. Finan-

cial support by Lions Clubs International and the Lions District 4C1 Disaster Account has successfully

helped over 700 families. This has been a district wide activity as members from all over the district have

put in time at the disaster relief center. There has been major support from neighboring Districts as well,

bringing over supplies to help stock the center. The Fire Relief Center is open daily from 9:00 AM to 6:00

PM, staffed by Lions from throughout the District. The Center will continue serving citizens on a day to

day schedule until supplies are distributed. Contact the Fire Relief Center Manager at 530-921-3635 for

more information.

I have included pictures for publication. The support for this has been amazing and the appreciation from

the community has been incredible!

I would like to mention that the District has received two $10,000 grants for the Carr Fire Disaster Relief.

We have been able to provide food and water using the grant money from LCIF and the District was able to

purchase cleaning supplies, shovels and hoses with funds in the District disaster account. Many items

were donated by local businesses and other clubs in other districts.

Please call me if you have any questions,

As a Professional Ski Instructor, I found joy in teaching people of all ages

how to ski. As a certified USSA Coach, I taught high school ski racing and

helped a few young athletes find success at state championships.

Skiing is such a thrill, screaming down the

mountain at high speeds, with the wind blasting

by you & whistling in your ears. Then you get to

the powder, deep and fluffy like a down pillow,

you carve through it like a hot knife through

butter leaving the perfect tracks on an un-

touched mountain is absolutely epic.

It’s the thrill of rippin’ it down the slopes on steep terrain, doing jump turns

down a narrow chute, pushing yourself to the maximum limit of your skill

level. Slicing the snow with deep carved turns and hanging on as the speed

picks up…I am a ski bum at heart and will always be! I have been skiing for

over 36 years, I compete in USSA Masters Far West Ski Racing with the

Rusty Bindings Ski Club.

Redding Host Lions Charities

PO Box 991791

Redding CA. 96099-1791

Dear Lions Club Supporter:

It's that time of year again when we start offering different levels of sponsorships for our 9th annual Redding Host Lions Golf Tournament. Once again it will be held at the beautifully appointed Gold Hills Golf Club where the golfers and their guests enjoy the excellent amenities and the professional course layout. Golfers will also enjoy a delicious tri-tip and chicken lunch buffet. This year our Golf Tourna-ment is on Friday, September 28th, 2018. Please save this date and come join us!

We are equally excited for our sponsors to see and benefit from our newly redesigned and refor-matted golf flyer sponsorship packages. Whether you are sponsoring a team and/or a hole on the course we have something for everyone. We are anticipating a great increase in sponsored and indi-vidual golf teams this year due to a lot of advance marketing and community support! This equates to maximum exposure for your business when you sponsor a golf team, one or more of the various hole sponsorships or the ever-popular raffle prizes. Each sponsor will be spotlighted by our Master of Ceremonies during the lunch and raffle time.

Redding Host Lions Club depends heavily on our annual fund raisers to support sending kids to the Camp McCumber Diabetic Camp along with our many other community outreach and support pro-grams we help with throughout the year. All proceeds raised go back in to our community. “We SERVE” is the international Lions Motto and we serve with a SMILE and compassion for others. We thank you for your prior commitment and support and look forward to partnering with you for this year's Golf Tournament and beyond. And we give a Big Thanks in advance to those businesses/individuals choosing to be a part of our supporter’s team for the 1st time. Welcome aboard!

Your donations are tax deductible and we will provide you with a separate W9 tax donation form if requested.

On behalf of our community and Redding Host Lions Club we graciously thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Your Redding Host Lions 2018 Golf Tournament Committee
