Graphic programs

High quality images can really enhance the look of a website.

A range of programs exist to edit images, with packages like Photoshop being popular.

There are also free packages available on the Internet like aviary.com which allow you to edit images at no cost.

It is important to check the pictures you use for copyright. To avoid any issues over the ownership of

images, it is best to use and edit your own.

Presenting graphics on-screen

There are a number of factors to think about when presenting graphics on a screen for websites.

Resolution – High resolution (300 dpi) is used for print, but the quality of web graphics is limited by the screen they are displayed on. Usually, 72 dpi is high enough quality. File format – Save graphics in the most suitable file format, usually a .gif, .png or .jpg.File size – Keep file sizes small so graphics load more quickly.
