Sexual discrimination
Sexual discrimination happens when men and women are not treated equally in society.
People who believe women should have equal rights and want to work for change are called feminists, although there are varying degrees of feminism.
Since 1975 when the Sex Discrimination Act was passed in the United Kingdom it has been illegal for women to be discriminated against in the workplace, but many people believe that this still has not been achieved and there is still a long way to go.

Was Saint Paul confused?
Look at some of the things Paul said about women. Was he confused or did he see two separate roles for women?
A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. (I Timothy 2:11-14)
You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus…There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. (Galatians 3:26-28)
Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission…If they want to enquire about something they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church. (1 Corinthians 14:34-35)

Imagine that you are an Anglican who voted against the ordination of women. Write a letter to the editor of The News explaining your views.
