The five W’s

The success of a project depends very much on how well you plan it. Ask yourself some questions….

What am I being asked to do? What problem

am I solving?

Who is going to be using my end result?

Who is this for?

When does it need to be completed by?

When is the deadline?

Why am I doing this project? What purpose

does it serve?

Where can I find the information I need? Where can I find similar products?

Storm that brain!!

Give yourself a time limit (make it quick)

List all ideas

Arrange your ideas in groups

Review the order of the groups

Erase any that do not fit in.

Brilliant brainstorming!!

Don’t be daft… draft

group ideas that can form a paragraph together

try and put the paragraphs in an order

translate the ideas into sentences

move from one paragraph to the next

how long is the document? How long should it be?

add more ideas or remove ideas that do not fit

check that your writing still suits audience and purpose.

Drafting is the first stage of putting pen to paper to develop the key words from the brainstorm:

Chopping and changing

layout – Is everything in the right place?

content – Is everything relevant? Accurate?

style – Does the project suit the audience and purpose?

SPG – Are spelling, punctuation and grammar correct?

Projects are rarely perfect after the first draft. Work needs to be reviewed for the following:

Annotate the letter to show the changes that need to be made.

Summary

Always ask What, Who, Why, When, Where and How.

A successful project should include a:

brainstorm using G.L.A.R.E.

a plan of action with time scales using Gantt charts

a draft of the solution

review and annotation

an evaluation of the project.

What can I remember?
