A simple and efficient product all along the yearFor many years, one goal of the farmer is to produce more milk with fewer animals. This boost in milk production is always linked to an increase of concentrated feed in the ration. Various “high-tech buffer” products can be found on the market today; however, Bicar®Z (Solvay’s sodium bicarbonate) is a simple, well-known, inexpensive and efficient buffer.

Many studies have demonstrated that 250grams of Bicar®Z daily improves the yield. Up to 4 liters of milk is produced per day linked to the possibility to safely increase feed intake with. Bicar®Z.

Even more during the summerHigh producing cows are releasing heat by breathing and sweating. This is always a point of attention and especially when ambiant temperature raises above 20°C. Ruminants increase breathing to regulate body temperature which causes the loss of CO2 in the lungs and of bicarbonate in the blood (chemical reaction).

Moreover, a loss of sodium is measurable in the urine, as well as a loss of potassium and bicarbonate during the sweating.

As a consequence, it is recommended to add more Bicar®Z to the ration, up to 300g per day per cow.
