Women and Child Rights
Adolescent Girls Meeting:
CHILDLINE PROJECT: Adolescent girls meetings have been organized at Ghotarla (Kotpad) and
Charamula (Borigumma) villages of on 7th September, 2018 and 20th September, 2018. In the meeting
25 adolescent girls were participated and shared their issues and problems with the CHILDLINE
team members. They were oriented on different child rights and CHILDLINE 1098 services. They
were distributed leaflets on CHILDLINE 1098. The Adolescent girls were also orientated on the bad
impacts of child marriage and how one can stop the child marriage by taking support of
CHILDLINE and other allied systems
ANM and ASHA workers meet: CHILDLINE Project has organized AWW and
ASHA workers meet at Kusumi village of
Kotpad on 19th September, 2018. The objective of
the meeting was to sensitize them on
CHILDLINE 1098 and its services, addressing
child rights issues and tracking the child related
issues i.e. parents cannot motivate their
children’s for pre-schooling, child marriage,
child abuse, child labour, school dropout etc.
The CHILDLINE team members were sensitized
them on the use of 1098 toll free phone number during addressing the child’s need, care and
protection. In this meeting, 6 ASHA workers, 4 AWW workers and 1 AW helper were participated.
OPEN HOUSE:
CHILDLINE Project: Open House activity has
been organized at AWC, Kusumi village of
Kotpad on 27th September, 2018. The objective of
the program was to discuss and take appropriate
action against the issues related to child rights.
In this program, 35 Adolescent girls, AWW,
ASHA workers, village people were presented.
Child labour, drinking water, boundary wall of
AWC and demand for new AWC were the
issues raised by the children during their
presentation. An action plan has been developed to sort-out these issues. In this connection, it has
decided to write an application which will be given to the Sub-Collector, Child Development
Program Officer and Block Development Officer after consultation with ward members and school
teachers. The CHILDLINE team members were facilitated in the Open House program.
Women and Child Rights
Case Intervention: CHILDLINE project team members were intervene an orphan CWD (MR)
girl child (11 years) at Choupathi in Borigumma on 25th September, 2018. The local print media
representative had given the information about the child. The CHILDLINE team members were
interacted with the uncle (elder father) of the child and villagers. They collected all the necessary
information and documents. The team members suggested her uncle to produce the child at Child
Welfare Committee, Koraput for provide need, care and projection.
CHILDLIINE Koraput Ekta has intervened 22 cases including 18 child labour, 3 shelters and 1
medical case during the month of September, 2018. In this intervention, 4 cases were detected from
outreach and 18 cases were detected during mass rescue by the local police, Borigumma. The
Childline team members have done 400 hours of outreach which includes 80 Individual hours, 170
Small Group hours and 150 Group hours. Total 150 phone calls were tested during the outreach
program.
GP level single headed women family meet: AESS Project team has organized meetings at
Sambai & Mathalmba (Pottangi), Girliput (Laxmipur), Kerimity (Kundra), Narayanguda
(Dasmantpur) and
Haridaguda (Borigumma)
blocks during September,
2018. The project has proved
a platform to the single
headed women for sitting
together, sharing theirs
issues and planning in a
participatory manner to sort
out their problems. The AESS
Project team members and
volunteers were facilitated
during the meetings.
Refer for Corrective Surgery: VDC Project: The project
team has provided referral services to 9 cases from the project
operational areas. They have been assessed and referred for
corrective surgery of 7 club foot children at Sahid Laxman Nayak
Medical College and Hospital (SLNMCH) by the specialist from
NIRTAR, Olatpur. Remaining 2 club foot cases were referred to
NIRTAR, Olatpur, (Cuttack) for higher treatment.
Field visit of Trustee, Carer Worldwide (UK): Dr. Anil
Patil, Executive Director (CWW), Mrs. Siam Alistair and Mr.
Edwards Page Trustees of CWW, UK were came to Ekta and
visited Jhodiguda village of Manbar (Koraput) on 9th September,
2018. They interacted with the carers groups, spared time at
community therapy camp and visited CP cases (Home visit).
In the next day they visited
Medical College and Hospital
at Koraput and met
physiatrists. They discussed
on various issues related to
mental health cases, medicine
supply and condition at
Koraput district.
Bhima Bhai Vinnakhama Samartha Sibira (Single Window Program): The camp held
at Police UP School, Koraput on 28th September, 2018. Person with Disabilities and their carer were
came from the project areas and linked with different schemes and provisions i.e. certificate,
pension, UDID, DRI loan, PMRY, IAY and additive device.
State Level Workshop: On 25th September, 2018, a State level workshop on accessible and
inclusive election for the People with Disabilities held at SC and ST Research Training Centre
(BBSR) which was organized by State Election Office. The objective of this orientation was to
participate for develop accessible for the Person with Disabilities.
Release of Baseline Survey Report: A Baseline Survey Report of VDC project was released
in presence of Trustees, Executive Director of CWW and project partners from Ekta, SPREAD and
WORD on 10th September, 2018 at Ekta Janiguda office, Koraput.
People with Disability and their Carers
Awareness Program: Targeted
Intervention Project: On 12th September,
2018 the project staff has successfully organized an awareness program on HIV/AIDS for the ASHA workers at Ekta training at CPL, Duruguda. 32 ASHA workers from the project areas were participated in this program where they discussed on HIV/AIDS related issues and Sexual Transmitted Infection and TB. Ms. Bharati Mahapatra, Program Manager facilitated the training program and the project team members were supported it.
Transit Migrant Project: The project staffs were made counselling to the migrant labour at
transit point, Railway Station, Koraput. They were used different IEC Materials on HIV/ AIDS and
sensitize to migrant People. In this reporting month, 736 migrants were reached by the staffs during
different state holders meetings at Railway Station, Koraput.
Mobile Health Unit (AROGYA PLUS): The Arogya plus Mobile Health Unit Baipariguda had
successfully organised 44 health camps at different unreachable areas of Boipariguda block. The
project staffs made treatment to 2070 cases and provided medicines & referral services. At the
treatment point, the team also organized ORS/Zink demonstration program. In the reporting
period, 7 Social Mobilization and 1 Jana Adalata
were organized where the PRI members and
different stakeholders were participated.
Case Study
Janamati Jani, 31 years old lady of Photokumbhi
village suffered disease of Septic Wound last few
months back. She had not taken any medical
treatment. She did the local available traditional
treatment. When the MHU Team organized health camp in that village, she got the treatment from
the team. The team members were not only provided medicine to her but also made regular follow
up until she recovered. After continues follow-up, two months later she totally recovered from the
disease and gave heartfelt thanks to MHU team, Boipariguda.
Targeted Intervention on HIV/AIDS for Female Sex Worker (FSW) and Migrant Labour
HUNIT ( RAMGIRI)
Promotion of Traditional Paddy Cultivation: Sustainable Livelihood Initiative through Community Empowerment (SLICE)
Gradually the indigenous seeds production and
preservation has been lost by the communities/
farmers in our project pockets. The project has taken
initiatives to promote indigenous seeds in
Gadiaguda and Mujanga Gram Panchayats in
Dasmantpur. In this connection, the project arranged
an exposure visit to Living Farm field areas at
Bisamcuttack, Rayagada to gain more knowledge on
cultivate of local seeds. The management of Ekta and
project staffs were collected local seeds from
different sources. The collected indigenous local
seeds were distributed to the interested farmers for
its promotion and preservation. As a result 126
farmers have adopted and practice the indigenous seeds in their locality. Time to time the project
staffs made follow up and provided inputs to the farmers regarding paddy plant protection from
the insects.
Preparation of Micro Level Plans: The project has prepared 24 Micro Level Plans (MLP) at
revenue villages at Gadiaguda and Mujang Gram Panchayat. The MLP has prepared on the base of
“GOAL FREE DISCUSSION” and “People First Impact Method” (PFIM), these methods are
focusing to give chance to the community voice. The main objective was to the VDC are required
to develop their own plans with an emphasis on local priorities. All the social excluded groups
would be involved to articulate their needs. Priority would be given for women issues and prepare
a gender focus plan. Once the information collected, synthesized and analysed, the plans prepared,
conclusions and the strategies for implementation, the roles and responsibilities of different
stakeholders would be discussed at Palli Sabha, Gram Sabha and Panchayat level, ratify the plan by
the local authorities for submission to the Government for support under different schemes and
programmes and finally it would be track or monitor the planned activities which is made by the
community.
Publishing News Letter: A news letter named “AAMARI KATHA” at project level has
published on yearly basis. The main purpose of the news letter is to share information, case studies,
best practices, progress of project activities, learning and challenges with the CBOs and different
stakeholders. It will help to people from other areas to know more about the developmental
interventions and its processes. The suggestions and feedbacks from other stakeholders also help
to implement the project in smoothly.
Sustainable Livelihood, Climate Change & Governance
Promotion of SRI and SMI: SLICE Project has distributed different agricultural equipments
such as KB pump with pipe, Mandua, Marker, and weeder to
the progressive farmers of Mujanga and Gadiaguda Gram
Panchayats of Dasmantpur. In this event, the members of
Village Development Committee, Gram Panchayat Task
Force, PRI members and key stakeholders were presented.
The main objective of this activity was to promote the uses of
agriculture equipments for traditional paddy and millet
cultivation. The System of Rice Intensification (SRI) and
System of Millet Intensification (SMI) methods is very useful
in reducing the input cost (seeds, fertilizer, water, labour etc)
and gets more yield in the same field using the new
technique and equipments. So that, the production level is
enhance and the duration of the food security will be
improved.
Case Study: Traditional Farmer School
“An initiative to promote traditional agriculture farming” Gradually the traditional
agricultural practices have been lost by the community due to more reason such as influence by the
Companies, competitive mind, dependence on market etc. Satya Nadibadi is belongs from
Batriguda village of Mujanga Panchayat. He is a leading farmer in the locality and gave importance
on organic farming. He has participated in different activities of SLICE project i.e. Exposure visit at
Muniguda and Kandhamal, various capacity building training and programs and TOT on soil and
water measure. After following this process,
he had created an integrated farming in his
land. Earlier he had adopted hybrid and hy-
yield seeds and use of chemical fertiliser in
his land. He knew about benefit of the
organic manure through interacted with
various experience farmers. Now he is
developed a Field Farmers School in his
own interest and motivated others on
traditional agriculture practices. Other
farmers of the locality are visiting his farm
and gain knowledge about integrated
farming method. He hopes, to develop more
Field Farmers School and enhanced organic
produces in his locality.

Formation of Farmers Field School (FFS): SLICE Project has developed 4 Farmers Field
Schools (FFS) at Paikapuki (Gadiaguda GP) and Batriguda, Badaguda, Durkaguda (Mujanga GP) of
Dasmantpur block (Koraput). The project has taken initiatives to promote the agriculture practices
through FFS approach. It would be adopted in some of the models in use of traditional with new
technology. This is because, the farmers are adopting individual knowledge as gained from their
elders, applying heavy doses of agriculture inputs, not calculative in assessing the profit and the
agriculture extension workers not really sharing their experiences and expertise.
Developed Flip Chart: SLICE Project has designed an awareness flip book for the containing
information on community mobilization, empowerment, strengthen and team building. It helps to
the community / CBO members to get benefits from Government sponsored programs. Use of the
flip book, the community will mobilize towards the schemes and facilities of Government and
others in this way. They will able to access the services, resources and provisions available at
different levels.
Formation of Producer Group at GP level: SOUL Project has organized meetings at Tileru
(Gumma) and Kurumunda (Kutli)
villages on 22nd and 23th September, 2018
on initiative towards formation of GP
level producer group in the operational
areas. In this context, a preliminary
meeting has organized with the women
self help groups and shared the objectives
and contents of the producer group
concept. The self help group members
were shared their business experiences
and we discussed the possibilities of
business through a producer group.
Initially, it has discussed that, the group
and the project will contribute together for starting small business as an experience basis and
further it will expend in wider range. In this program, the project staffs were facilitated.
Monthly meetings of Village Action Team: SOUL Project has organized monthly meetings
of Village Action Team members at 20 project villages of Kutuli, Kumbhikota and Gumma GPs of
Rayagada district. The VAT members were shared their issues, practices, learning and planning
with the project staff. A joint plan has developed to smooth implementation of project activity with
the support of VAT members. During the meeting, the youths and VAT members were orientated
on tracking of weather mapping and develop crop calendar in the village wise.

On 9th & 10th of this month, Executive Director, Dr. Anil Patil, Mrs. Siam Alistair & Mr.
Edwards Page, trustees of Carers Worldwide, UK paid visit to our organization to know more
about the project which they have been supporting us technically
09 cases of our operational areas have been assessed (earlier) and referred for 07 nos. of cases
for corrective surgery of the children with club foot organized at SLNMC Hospital, Koraput on 19th
& 20th September, 2018.
Like every year, this year also, we had celebrated Lord Ganesh Puja taking all the staffs & well
wishers into account at our liaison office, Janiguda, Koraput on 13th September, 2018
On 13th of this month, the project staffs as well as members of the management gathered at
the conference hall, Duruguda for the monthly staff review.
With the involvement and support from the staffs & the management, we have started a
campaign to make our office premises neat and clean. In this connection, we have been observing
20th of every month as Saphai Day.
On 24th, 5 staffs and well wishers donated their blood voluntary at SNLMCH, Koraput.
On 26th, Mr. Durga Prasad Mohanty represented to the meeting organized by District
Administration on District Mineral Fund.
On 25th this month, Mrs. Sarita Das, Project Coordination has been representing to the state
level workshop on accessible election at ST & SC research training institute, Bhubaneswar on behalf
the organization in one hand and the NGO representative from the district.
On 26th of this month, Ekta has been developing developmental partnership with GIZ for developing 05 village level plans in Hinjilicut block of Ganjam district by signing contract at the Collectorate office, Chhatraput. Mr. Jagannath Mishra, Secretary signed the contract for the organization in the presence of District Collector, Ganjam in his office, Chhatrapur (Ganjam)
On 27th, Social Security & Empowerment of Person with Disabilities Department has been organizing state level workshop for orientating the livelihood programs under various schemes of National Trust. Our Secretary is representing this workshop on behalf of the district in the DSSO conference at Bhubaneswar.
