There are two possible outcomes: if the result confirms the hypothesis, then you’ve made a measurement. If the result is contrary to the hypothesis, then you’ve made a discovery.

SEFCU presents MAKE, a fun workshop space for children that encourages free-form creation using many different types of materials. Children can utilize three stations full of materials to create anything they can imagine! Maker spaces enable open- ended creativity and instill confidence and a sense of accomplishment in a way that’s fun for children.

Finding something entertaining and educational are typically two very separate things when you have a 1-year-old and 4-year-old. What I love about the MOST is that my wife and I always have something to do where I can count on my kids having a great time AND learning something.
— Jeff Knauss, MOST member DIGITAL HYVE, Co-Founder
Taking advantage of the world’s advancement in technology, in 2017 the MOST introduced our mobile app where visitors could explore a map of the museum, and families could go on a scavenger
hunt to different parts of the museum to learn and answer trivia questions about the exhibits.
The MOST opened The Family Place, a new area for tending to the needs of babies and young children. All parents and guardians are welcome to use the private quiet space for feeding, changing and soothing our littlest visitors.
On August 21, the MOST welcomed over 1,000 attendees for its Summer of Science Social
2017, to view the solar eclipse on the lawn.
New to the screen of the only domed IMAX® theater in New York State in 2017 was IMAX documentary, A Beautiful Planet! Moviegoers enjoyed never-before-seen video of the Earth as seen from the International Space Station through the eyes of NASA Astronauts.
The MOST introduced sensory kits with headphones, tactile toys & other sensory friendly items so visitors can enjoy the museum without overstimulation.

2017 marked the 12th year of MOST-organized Honeywell Summer Science Week. In total, this FREE program for students who have just completed 8th grade has inspired nearly 700 students through hands-on scientific exploration in Onondaga County. Honeywell Summer Science Week brings science to life as students become field researchers learning from scientists, engineers, and professors, about the Onondaga Lake Watershed. Students investigate water quality and learn from habitat experts and engineers about the cleanup at Honeywell’s Onondaga Lake Visitors Center.

Each year the MOST hosts several competitions for students to showcase what they know, and to learn more through the process of preparing for the event. These design, build & compete challenges are open to students in grades 4 –12 in Central New York. In January we held our 3rd Annual Central New York Regional VEX IQ Robotics Challenge with 24 teams going head to head using their robots to make their way through obstacle courses. In March at our 38th Annual Central New York Science & Engineering Fair we had a six-way tie which is the first in CNYSEF history! Hari Nanthakumar (grade 11) Elise White (grade 11), and Neil Khurana (grade 11) were invited to participate in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair; Maximilian Du (grade 9), Signe Golash (grade 12), and Jamila Eatman (grade 11) were selected for the New York State Science Congress.
In June we held our 15th Annual Central New York Rocket Team Challenge at Syracuse University’s Skytop Field. Students from the junior level (grades 4–8) and senior level (grades 9–12), competed on launch trajectory, rocketry knowledge, and other criteria.
At our 18th annual Central New York Bridges: Build ‘Em & Bust ‘Em showcase event, 132 teams comprised of participants in grades four through twelve competed to build the strongest and most stable balsa wood bridge in their respective competition category. At our 3rd Annual Steamboat Challenge students worked in teams of two to make steamboats powered by the heat of a single tealight candle. On race day, students brought their completed boats to race on water in an inflatable raceway. Student teams were judged on the speed of their boat, presentation to judges about how they’ve built the boat and what they learned, as well as the team’s creativity and innovation in designing the boat.
The Science Learning Partnership with the Syracuse City School District brings every kinder-gartener, 4th and 8th grader, 4,494 students, to the MOST over nearly 80 school days for a field trip as well as a hands-on science workshop that correlates with their classroom learning.
Thank you for teaching me about science. I like that we were learning how to keep the water clean and to remember the word pollution.
— Cory, fourth grader

The most popular early flight simulator was the Link Flight Trainer, built in nearby Binghamton, NY beginning in 1929. The Link Flight Trainer, built by Edwin A. Link, was an engineering marvel in its day, and demand for them sky-rocketed in the mid-1930s for military flight training and the arrival of World War II. Throughout the Second World War, Link Flight Trainers proved valuable as more than 10,000 trainers were deployed to train 500,000 Allied pilots. A report submitted to Congress after the war credited the Link Flight Trainer with saving $130 million and over 500 lives. The Link Flight Trainer was donated to the MOST by Syracuse University in December 2016, where it was initially restored by Earl Kletsky, former Syracuse University Associate Dean.

Our ROARING visiting exhibit, PALEO: The Story of Life, presented by Pathfinder Bank, impacted over 33,500 visitors about the history of life on Earth and the many different life forms and species that walked the Earth before us. PRESENTED BY THE MILTON J. RUBENSTEIN MUSEUM OF SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM INSTITUTE, INC.
Leonardo da Vinci was the definition of a polymath pursuing painting, sculpting, experimenting, and inventing simultaneously. The exhibit da Vinci: Artist. Engineer. Scientist. Thinker. debuted at the MOST in February 2017, and featured 16 models of da Vinci’s many machines, including his flying machine, parachute, odometer, and more.

It’s rare to be given the opportunity to support a local organization that not only provides its supporter great exposure to a diverse audience, but also has a strong focus on impact in educating and engaging youth. The MOST has been doing that for years, with fun and unique events and exhibits that both raise awareness for Visions’ brand and engage the community. We are thrilled to continue our unwavering support of this worthy organization.

The MOST is humbled and grateful for the generosity of our donors. The informal science education that the MOST provides the community is essential to inspire the STEM leaders of the future. We cannot fulfill this important work without the community’s support. Thank you!
