Hazelton History
Hazelton is one of the oldest settlements in Northern BC. It was the original gateway and staging area for the 1869-1873 Omineca Gold Rush. Hazelton also had the only proper hospital for hundreds of miles in any direction. In 1871, there were six buildings and a tent. More stores were soon constructed and many permanent homes went up. The Hudson’s Bay post had closed in the earlier years but reopened in 1880.
