Abstract The purpose of this project is to explore the ways, methods and techniques for the

designing of a school yard, so that to highlight the possible relationship between the

environmental design and the educational value and use of this specific area. It

explores all those pedagogical criteria that in conjunction with the environmental

criteria, lead to integrated planning and the implementation of a learning space, which

is a multidisciplinary field of development of integrated human beings with respect and

    responsibility for the environment.

In Chapter 1, it is highlighted the importance of the school space for the children

as well as its design for the quality of school life.

In Chapter 2. there are presented successful examples of other school designs of

abroad but of our own country as well.

Chapter 3 deals with the wider natural, cultural and economic environment of the

school complex of 2nd High School in the town of Drama.

Chapter 4 deals with the immediate environment of the area as far as the historical

data, the access, the views, the planting, the uses and the construction is concerned.

In Chapter 5, the preferences and opinions of the users (teachers and students) of the

study area are explored on the basis of the characteristics of their desire for their yard.

In Chapter 6, the principles and the objectives of planning are presented and

analyzed according to the rules of the sustainable landscape architecture.

In Chapter 7, it is shown the proposed configuration of the study of the school

complex of the second High School in the town of Drama. . There were specific

proposals for the organization of the space, the construction materials and equipment,

the planting, the drainage, the lighting, the irrigation of the courtyard. It was also

financially estimated and we set the timetable for the implementation of the project.

In the annex tables, maps, sketches , diagrams, photographs and explanatory texts,

are given to support the chapters of this project.
