Game 1: Nov. 16, 2010, 7 p.m.

MCNEESE STATE 68, GEORGIA STATE 62Burton Coliseum • Lake Charles, La. Despite 19 points from freshman Harold Doby in his collegiate debut, Georgia State opened the season with a 68-62 loss at McNeese State in Burton Memorial Coliseum. Doby, a native of Augusta, Ga., came off the bench to play 30 minutes, shoot-ing 7-of-10 from the fi eld and knocking down 5-of-7 from the line. He fi nished the game with fi ve rebounds and a pair of steals. “Harold Doby is a very good freshman,” commented head coach Rod Barnes. “He played really well tonight and made good adjustments when he needed. Aft er scoring 23 points in the fi rst half for the Cowboys, the Panthers held Deigo Kapelan to just two second half points, but 18 total Panther turnovers proved to be the diff erence. Trailing by as many as nine in the fi rst half and by six early in the second half, freshman Javonte Maynor hit back-to-back three-pointers with 15:34 remaining to tie the score at 40. Maynor, who made the start in his debut, was limited in the fi rst half aft er picking up two fouls 11 seconds apart, each before the fi rst media timeout. Maynor fi nished the game playing 17 minutes, scoring six points and pulling down three rebounds. Junior Eric Buckner, making his fi rst appearance in a Panther uniform scored six points on 3-of-6 shooting, pulling down a game-high 12 rebounds. Buckner added all three GSU block shots in a team-high 32 minutes. Late in the second half, Doby’s made a lay-up with 2:49 remaining to cut the Cowboys lead to three, but that was as close as the Panthers would get. Junior James Fields fi nished the game with 11 points, fi nishing 7-of-10 from the free throw line. Th e Panthers hit just 59.3% from the free throw line, making just 16-of-27 shots. Patrick Richard, an all-Southland Conference preseason selection, led the Cowboys at the line, going 10-of-12, fi nishing the game with 17 points. He added fi ve rebounds and dished out four assists in the win. Despite fouling out, Daniel Richard added seven points and three rebounds for the Cowboys who were outrebounded 34-26. Game 6: Dec. 4, 2010, 2 p.m.

GEORGIA STATE 64, JAMES MADISON 63Georgia State Sports Arena • Atlanta, Ga. Jihad Ali rebounded a missed shot and made a layup as time expired to lift Georgia State to 64-63 victory over James Madison in the Colonial Athletic As-sociation opener for both teams Saturday at the GSU Sports Arena. With the score tied 62-all, James Madison’s (6-2, 0-1 CAA) Devon Moore went to the free throw line with 3.5 seconds left . He made the fi rst to put the Dukes ahead, but missed the second, and Brandon McGee rebounded for Georgia State (3-3, 1-0 CAA). Aft er a timeout, the Panthers’ Harold Doby inbounded the ball from in front of the JMU bench with 2.7 seconds on the clock. Doby found Marques Johnson, who got a good look from the wing, but the JMU’s Andrey Semenov managed to defl ect the shot. Ali grabbed the rebound under the basket and laid it in just ahead of the horn. “I told our team, never feel like we cannot win the game,” said GSU head coach Rod Barnes. “You’ve got to believe, until the game is over, that we’re going to win it, and we talked about that in the huddle. Marques got off a good shot, and Jihad made a great play to grab the rebound. GSU overcame a 21-point, 15-rebound eff ort by JMU’s 6-10 standout Denzel Bowles with a balanced attack. Th e Panthers were led by a pair of players of the bench as McGee scored 15 points and junior Josh Micheaux added 12. Ali con-tributed eight points and career-high 10 rebounds. “We knew he was going to make shots, he’s that good,” said Barnes. “We talked about not letting him catch it. Early on, we let him catch it too easily and we didn’t put enough ball pressure on their guards. Down the stretch, I thought Harold Doby did a good job on him.” Aft er McGee’s three-point play gave Georgia State a 60-55 lead with just under fi ve minutes to go, Julius Wells nailed his second straight trey for the Dukes, pull-ing them within two. Eric Buckner answered with a layup to put GSU up 62-58 with three minutes left . From there, Semenov and Moore each hit one of two free throws for James Madison before Bowles tied the game at 62-all with a pair from the charity strip with 26 seconds left . Aft er a GSU turnover, Moore put a short jumper in the lane, and James Fields was called for the foul with three seconds. He made the fi rst, but missed the second, setting up the last-second heroics. Coming off a double-double on Tuesday at Hampton, junior Eric Buckner added eight points and seven rebounds in just 13 minutes of action.

GEORGIA STATE 76, VCU 66Georgia State Sports Arena • Atlanta, Ga. Eric Buckner poured in a career-high 28 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Georgia State to a 76-66 victory over VCU Monday at the GSU Sports Arena, giving the Panthers their fi rst victory over VCU in 13 tries since joining the Colonial Athletic Association in 2005. Georgia State won its third straight to improve to 7-5, 2-0 in the CAA, while VCU fell to 9-5, 1-1 CAA. Aft er going 12-for-16 from the fi eld tonight, the 6-10 Buckner has now made 33 of his last 39 shots over four games. A pair of players scored in double fi gures off the bench for the Panthers as ju-nior Josh Micheaux contributed 14 points and fi ve rebounds, and senior Marques Johnson added 12 points. Th e Panthers, who led the entire second half, shot 50.9 percent from the fi eld, topping the 50-percent mark for the fourth straight game, while holding VCU to just 33.3 percent shooting, including 6-for-23 from beyond the arc. Georgia State outrebounded the Rams, 43-to-29. “I thought we did a really good job all night handling VCU’s pressure,” com-mented head coach Rod Barnes. “I thought Eric Buckner was special tonight. He showed the type of impact player he could be.” VCU featured four players in double fi gures, led by Jamie Skeen with 16. Brad-ford Burgess scored 13, and Darius Th eus and Joey Rodriguez added 10 points each. Th e Panthers took a 34-30 advantage into the intermission and then opened the second half with a jumper by Johnson and then a dunk by Buckner to quickly build an eight-point advantage. Aft er a bucket by VCU’s Ed Nixon, Buckner made back-to-back layups to push the lead to 10 at 42-32 with 16 minutes to play, and from there, the Panthers managed to keep the Rams at arms length. VCU twice closed to within six points with the ball, but GSU came up with key defensive stops and hit 14 of 19 free throws in the second half to seal the win. Georgia State trailed by seven points at 22-15 midway through the fi rst half before tying the game with an 8-1 run, highlighted by back-to-back jumpers by Johnson. “I thought we had some guys step up and make some free throws down the stretch and that is what we are going to need to do to be competitive every night in this league.”

UNC WILMINGTON 59, GEORGIA STATE 56Trask Coliseum • Wilmington, N.C. Trevor Deloach nailed a three-pointer at the buzzer to give UNC Wilming-ton a 59-56 victory over Georgia State on Wednesday night at Trask Coliseum. Th e Seahawks overcame a career-high 27 points from senior Dante Curry, who knocked down seven three-pointers for the second time in less than a week. Curry, who was named CAA co-Player of the Week on Monday, nailed 9-of-13 from the fi eld and 7-of-10 from three-point range. However, State hit just 33 percent, 6-of-18, from the free throw line, which proved to be more than the diff erence in the game. Th e loss ended Georgia State’s three-game winning streak as the Panthers fell to 7-6 overall and 2-1 in the CAA. With the score tied at 56, junior Josh Micheaux missed a jumper that would have gave the Panthers a two-point lead. Following a 30-second timeout by the Seahawks, Deloach knocked down the three from well beyond the arc for the win. UNC Wilmington, led by fi rst year coach Buzz Peterson, improved to 8-6 overall and 2-1 in conference action. Curry opened the game with a hot-hand, hitting a pair of three-pointers in the fi rst minute to give Georgia State an early 6-2 lead. Th e Seahawks followed with an 11-0 run, holding the Panthers without a basket for more than seven minutes, before senior Marques Johnson nailed back-to-back jumpers to cut defi cit to six. Wilmington continued to pull away, extending its lead to 13 points on a jumper by Matt Wilson, giving the Seahawks a 27-14 lead, their biggest lead of the night with 6:18 to go in the opening period. Th e Panthers followed with a run of their own, outscoring the Seahawks 11-3 over the fi nal six minutes of the half, as Curry once again knocked down two more three-pointers. State held Wilmington without a basket over the fi nal 3:45 to go into half down just 30-25. Micheaux’s putback with 14:27 remaining in the second half capped an 8-0 Pan-ther run and gave State is fi rst lead, 36-35, since the fi rst two minutes of the game. Junior Eric Buckner, coming off a career-high 28 points, was held in check by the Seahawks defense for the fi rst 30 minutes of the game, but his fi rst basket with 12:02 remaining in the game seemed to turn the momentum in the Panthers favor and tied the game. He fi nished with eight points and 12 rebounds. Each team was held to just one basket over the fi nal 3:44, before Wilmington’s buzzer-beater to win the game. Chad Tomko, an All-CAA selection, fi nished with 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Seahawks.GEORGIA STATE 56 (7-6, 2-1 CAA)

GEORGIA STATE 73, TOWSON 65Georgia State Sports Arena • Atlanta, Ga. James Vincent scored a career-high 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Georgia State to a 73-65 win over Towson in a Colonial Athletic Association game Saturday at the GSU Sports Arena. With the win, Georgia State moved to 3-1 in the CAA and 8-6 overall. Towson fell to 4-10, 0-4 in the CAA. Th e Panthers are 6-2 at home this season and won for the fi ft h straight time at home against the Tigers. Dante Curry scored a game-high 12 points for the Panthers on four three-pointers, and Jihad Ali added 11 points, while James Fields handed out a career-best nine assists. “I was really proud of our guys tonight,” commented head coach Rod Barnes. “We didn’t play our best basketball, but we did what we needed to do to earn the win. Ali started the spurt with a three-pointer, Vincent had back-to-back dunks, and Curry punctuated the run with a trey. “James Vincent came through for us. He has great potential and I thought he had a chance to make a great impact for us tonight. On the defensive side, he was able to aff ect some shots and then on the off ensive end, gave us a great inside post presence.” Towson managed to pull within eight points at 67-59 with 3:39 to play, but Eric Buckner answered with a dunk. Buckner fi nished with seven points and fi ve boards. Aft er leading 33-32 at the half, Georgia State shot 55.6 percent from the fi eld in the second half to outscore the Tigers, 40-33 aft er the intermission. JAMES MADISON 79, GEORGIA STATE 67JMU Convocation Center • Harrisonburg, Va. Th e Georgia State basketball team escaped the snow and ice in Atlanta but fell at James Madison, 79-67, Th ursday at the JMU Convocation Center. Th e game was originally scheduled to be played Wednesday but snow and ice in Atlanta delayed the Panthers’ travel and postponed the game to Th ursday. Freshman Javonte Maynor led Georgia State (8-7, 3-2 CAA) with 14 points off the bench, and senior Marques Johnson equalled his career scoring high with 12 points, along with fi ve rebounds and four assists. Despite the loss, the Panthers have won four of their last six games. Five players scored in double fi gures for James Madison, which won its eighth straight game to improve to 14-3 overall, 4-1 in the CAA, including a perfect 8-0 at home. “We looked like a team that had missed a few days of practice (due to weather),” said GSU head coach Rod Barnes. “We were not in sync, especially defensively. “But I thought our kids showed great resilience in continuing to fi ght back,” continued Barnes. “We had an unusual week with the weather, this is a tough place to come into and James Madison is a very good team. We’ll be much better Saturday.” James Madison shot 59 percent from the fi eld, the best fi gure that any op-ponent has managed this season against Georgia State, which leads the CAA in fi eld goal percentage defense. Th e Dukes hit 10 of 16 from three-point range. Meanwhile the Panthers, who had shot 50 percent or better in fi ve of its last six games, hit only 36 percent tonight. Aft er falling behind by as many as 19 points at 55-36 with 8:49 left , GSU used an 11-2 run over the next two minutes to quickly pull within 10 at 57-47 with 6:36 still to play. But Julius Wells answered with a three for JMU, and the Panthers could not get their defi cit to single digits until a trey by Maynor brought them within 71-63 with 1:24 left . Th e Dukes made seven of eight free throws to seal the victory. Andrey Semenov led JMU with 16 points off the bench, while Humpty Hitchens and Devon Moore added 13 points each. Leading scorer Denzel Bowles managed 12 points, 11 rebounds and fi ve assists, and Julius Wells chipped in 11 points.

GEORGE MASON 66, GEORGIA STATE 51Patriot Center • Fairfax, Va. Playing its second road game in less than 48 hours, Georgia State fell at George Mason, 66-51, Saturday aft ernoon at the Patriot Center. Th e Panthers dropped their second straight to fall to 8-8 overall, 3-3 in the CAA. Dante Curry led Georgia State with 12 points on four three-pointers, and Marques Johnson and Brandon McGee added 10 points each. Mason improved to 12-5 overall, 4-2 CAA, including a perfect 8-0 at home. Preseason all-CAA selection Cam Long led the Patriots with 18 points, and Ryan Pearson added 14. Th e Panthers stayed close for much of the game and were within 43-41 aft er a three-point play by James Fields with 9:31 to play. But George Mason scored the next nine points to build a 52-41 lead at 7:06. Curry stopped the run with a trey cut the Panthers’ defi cit to eight, but Georgia State could get no closer the rest of the way. “We put ourselves in position, within a basket against a really good team on the road, but we just couldn’t make enough plays down the stretch,” said GSU head coach Rod Barnes. Th e Patriots held Georgia State’s leading scorer, Eric Buckner, scoreless as the 6-10 post player was just 0-for-2 from the fi eld while battling a slight leg injury. Both teams started slowly, and GSU held an 11-8 lead aft er a three-pointer by McGee with 10 minutes left in the fi rst half. But the Panthers endured a scoring drought of nearly seven minutes to fall behind 20-11 before Curry’s trey broke the ice at the 3:38 mark. Despite the cold spell, GSU trailed just 24-21 at the intermis-sion. Th e Panthers managed to tie the game at 25-all early in the second half but could never get the lead back. In the middle of a grueling stretch with three straight road games against three of the top teams in the CAA, the Panthers struggled to score, shooting just 35 percent from the fi eld and committing 20 turnovers while scoring a season-low 51 points. “Th e schedule is tough right now,” said Barnes, whose Panthers played at James Madison Th ursday night in a game postponed by the winter weather in Atlanta, “but to be the type of basketball team that we want to be, we have to learn how to win these type of tough road games.” On a positive note, the Panthers were much improved from the free throw line for the second straight game, going 11-for-14 to follow Th ursday’s 12-for-15 eff ort at JMU. However, Mason shot 31 free throws to just 14 for GSU.

VCU 71, GEORGIA STATE 54Siegel Center • Richmond, Va. Playing its third straight road game, Georgia State fell to fi rst-place VCU, 71-54, Wednesday at the Siegel Center in Richmond, Va. James Fields scored a career-high 13 points and Jihad Ali contributed eight points, seven rebounds and two blocks for the Panthers, who dropped their third straight to fall to 8-9 overall, 3-4 in the CAA. Dante Curry and Josh Micheaux added eight points each. VCU won its fi ft h straight and improved to 9-0 at home as freshman Rob Brandenburg scored a career-high 23 points. Th e Rams improved to 14-5 overall and 6-1 in the CAA to sit atop the conference standings, tied with Hofstra. “VCU is a very good team, and they were really good tonight on their home fl oor,” said GSU head coach Rod Barnes, whose squad handed the Rams their only conference loss two weeks ago in Atlanta. “Th ey were a diff erent team tonight than the one we played in Atlanta. And we were, too. We let their pressure bother us, especially in the fi rst half, and we let the game be played at their pace instead of ours.” Th e Panthers, still without starting point guard Devonta White, were hurt by 24 turnovers against VCU’s press. Brandenburg, the reigning CAA Rookie of the Week, topped the 20-point mark for the second time in three games. Jamie Skeen added 15 points and seven rebounds for the Rams. “We knew Brandenburg was very capable,” said Barnes. “He’s playing with a lot of confi dence right now, and he should - he has a lot of weapons around him. You try to double Skeen in the post, and you want to keep an eye on Joey Rodriguez and Bradford Burgess, and that opens up things for Brandenburg. He took advantage of his opportunities.” Both teams started slowly, and Georgia State held an early 9-6 lead midway through the fi rst half before the Rams scored 12 straight to take an 18-9 lead. VCU extended its advantage to 35-18 at the intermission. Th e Panthers opened the second half with a 12-3 run as Curry hit a pair of treys to pull GSU within eight points at 38-30 four minutes into the period. But the Rams answered with a 9-0 spurt to move ahead 47-30 and were able to main-tain control from there. GEORGIA STATE 54 (8-9, 3-4 CAA)

DELWARE 64, GEORGIA STATE 62Georgia State Sports Arena • Atlanta, Ga. Georgia State rallied from a 14-point defi cit in the second half before falling to Delaware, 64-62, Saturday at the GSU Sports Arena on Jawan Carter’s three-pointer at the buzzer, which rolled around the rim before falling through the hoop. Eric Buckner led Georgia State (8-10, 3-5 CAA) with 18 points, six rebounds and three blocks. Jihad Ali added a season-high 16 points, along with seven re-bounds, three assists and three steals. “We put them in a position to shoot a contested three-pointer and unfortu-nately, they made a great shot,” commented head coach Rod Barnes following the tough loss. “We really played the game the way it was supposed to be played down the stretch and made some key free throws, but unfortunately, it was a tough shot at the end that cost us.” Carter scored 13 of his 15 points in the second half, and Devon Saddler led the Blue Hens (10-8, 5-3 CAA) with 17 points and fi ve assists. Brandon McGee’s jumper with the shot clock running down put the Panthers ahead, 62-60, with 55 seconds left . Alphonso Dawson made one of two free throws with 42 seconds to go to pull Delaware within one. Georgia State ran down most of the shot clock before losing the ball out of bounds, and the Blue Hens inbounded with 12.6 seconds remaining. Carter’s shot from the top of the key was contested but it found the rim and appeared as if was going to bounce out before falling through for the win. Georgia State trailed by 10 at the half, 35-25, and then fell behind by as many as 14 early in the second half before beginning its comeback, using a 19-4 run to take a 47-46 lead with 10:51 to play. Five diff erent players scored on the spurt, including treys by Ali, Javonte Maynor, and James Fields capped it with a driving layup. “We really started to defend better,” said Barnes on his team trailing by 14. “I thought we started to limit them to one shot in the second half and because of that, we had a chance to get some baskets.” Neither team led by more than four points the rest of the way as the fi nal 10 minutes included six lead changes and four ties. State fi nished 19 of 26 (73.1 percent) from the free throw line, but shot just 3-of-10 from behind the arc. Redshirt-junior Brandon McGee fi nished with 11 points and eight rebounds, knocking down 7-of-10 from the free throw line.DELAWARE 64 (10-8, 5-3 CAA)

DREXEL 57, GEORGIA STATE 33Daskalaskis Athletic Center • Philadelphia, Pa. On a night where the rims in the Daskalaskis Athletic Center were as cold as the frigid temperatures outside, Georgia State fell to Drexel 57-33. Th e Panthers were held to just 29.2 percent from the fi eld and were limited to just four free throw attempts. Junior Eric Buckner led the Panthers with eight points, four rebounds and two blocked shots as he moved within three of the school’s single season top ten with 37 this season. Georgia State (8-11, 3-6 CAA) lost for the fi ft h straight time, four of which have come on the road against teams that have combined for just one home loss this season. Drexel improved to 8-1 at home this season with the win. Th e 33 points scored were the fewest in the history of the program, surpassing the 38 scored at Utah in the Preseason NIT in 2003. “You have to give Drexel a lot of credit tonight,” commented head coach Rod Barnes. “I thought our guys did a good job on defense in the fi rst half and made them force some shots. However, in the second half, they were able to work for some open baskets and were able to pull away.” Drexel (13-6, 5-4 CAA) was led by Samme Givens who fi nished with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Givens is the lone player in the CAA averaging a double-double a game. Gerald Colds and Frantz Massenat scored 15 and 10 points respectively for the Dragons, who only trailed 2-0 just over a minute into the game. Th e Dragons opened the game on a 12-3 run over the fi rst 15 minutes of the game, holding the Panthers to just one basket as the Panthers were 1-of-14 to start the game. State managed to shoot just 23.1 percent in the fi rst half and were 0-of-5 from three-point range. Buckner helped give the Panthers some momentum going into the half, scor-ing six straight points late before senior Marques Johnson hit a jumper with 50 seconds remaining to cut Drexel’s lead to 18-13. Drexel was equally as cold in the fi rst half, shooting just 30.4 percent and was 4-of-11 from the free throw line in the opening period. Senior Dante Curry nailed the fi rst of his two three pointers with 15:28 to go in the second half to cut Drexel’s lead to nine, the closest State got in the second half. Curry fi nished with six points. Marques Johnson fi nished the game with eight points in a team-high 31 minutes.

OLD DOMINION 51, GEORGIA STATE 48Georgia State Sports Arena • Atlanta, Ga. Georgia State fell for the second time in three games and the fourth time this season on a last-second shot as Old Dominion’s Frank Hassell put back a missed shot with 6.6 seconds and the Monarchs escaped with a 51-48 victory Wednesday at the GSU Sports Arena. Th e Panthers led 48-47 when Hassell grabbed a missed shot by Darius James, put it in and was fouled. He completed a three-point play, and ODU added another free throw aft er a GSU turnover for the fi nal margin. GSU dropped its sixth straight to fall to 8-12 and 3-7 CAA. Brandon McGee led the Panthers with 14 points. “We had opportunities tonight, but unfortunately we turned the ball over one too many times,” commented head coach Rod Barnes. “Th ey are a good rebound-ing team and we missed one at the end that might have been able to seal the game for us.” Hassell fi nished with 15 points to lead Old Dominion, which improved to 16-5 overall and 7-3 in conference. “I thought we showed a lot of resilience and our guys played with great eff ort. I thought our entire team played hard, but it is unfortunate that we are not able to make that last place to win it.” Georgia State took a 48-44 lead on Dante Curry’s three-pointer with 4:07 to play, but that was the last basket for the Panthers. Still, GSU allowed ODU only three free throws over the next four minutes and needed just one last defensive stand. James drove the lane with less than 10 seconds left and missed a pull-up jumper. But Old Dominion ranks second in the nation in rebounding, and Hassell came up with the off ensive rebound on the baseline to score the bucket. Georgia State held the Monarchs to just 36 percent shooting from the fi eld, including 2-for-14 from three-point range, but ODU went 17-for-23 at the line, while the Panthers shot just eight free throws, making six. Th e Panthers had the advantage early, leading by as many as 10 points midway through the fi rst half. GSU was ahead 21-16 with fi ve four minutes until halft ime, but ODU closed the half with a 6-2 run to take 24-23 lead into the locker room. A three-pointer by Javonte Maynor put the Panthers ahead, 28-27, with 16:54 left , and the GSU held the lead until the closing seconds. Maynor scored 11 points off the bench, and Curry added 10.

Towson (4-19, 0-13 CAA) lost for the 12th straight time and for the fi rst time at home to the Panthers. Th e win snapped a streak of nine straight games won by the home team in the series and gave State is fi rst road win in CAA action this year. Vincent fi nished the game 6-of-10 from the fi eld, with seven rebounds and a steal in 25 minutes of action. He scored 11 points against the Tigers on Jan. 5 to lead the Panthers. Junior Brandon McGee came off the bench to match Vincent with 12 points and six rebounds as the Panthers used a balanced off ensive attack. Late in the fi rst half, State used an 8-0 run, capped by a Vincent dunk to give the Panthers a 35-23 lead with 1:57 remaining. GSU held the Tigers without a fi eld goal over the fi nal 5:40 of the half, limiting Towson to just fi ve free throws. Fortunately for State, the Tigers could never take the lead. Following Philmore’s dunk, the Panthers responded with a 7-0 run, capped by a Josh Micheaux lay-up, extending State’s lead to 59-51 with 3:05 to play. HOFSTRA 79, GEORGIA STATE 68Georgia State Sports Arena • Atlanta, Ga. Georgia State fell to Hofstra, 79-68, in a Colonial Athletic Association game Wednesday at the GSU Sports Arena as Pride (16-9, 10-4 CAA) standout Charles Jenkins poured in 28 points. Jihad Ali scored a season-high 19 points for the Panthers (10-14, 5-9 CAA), and Josh Micheaux just missed his fi rst career double-double with 10 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Jenkins, the reigning CAA Player of the Year, entered the game averaging 23.2 points per game (seventh in the nation), and nearly 30 NBA scouts were on hand to watch him play. Th e 6-3 guard went 10-of-15 from the fi eld and 5-of-6 from the line, while collecting fi ve rebounds and dishing four steals. “He is a great player, there is no question about that,” commented head coach Rod Barnes. “He does a great job of scoring the basketball and takes his time. We just allowed him too many opportunities tonight.” Aft er trailing by as many as 18 points early in the second half, the Panthers got within six points at 74-68 on a pair of free throws by Eric Buckner with 1:37 left . Aft er Brad Kelleher made one free throw for the Pride, Ali missed a three-point try that would have brought GSU within four with a minute to play. From there, Hofstra made free throws to seal the win. “I thought we had some opportunities tonight, especially early on, but we missed a few lay-ups and stick-backs that really hurt us. I thought our team got back in the game and we had some guys step up and make some shots, especially in the second half.” Hofstra used hot-shooting to build a big lead as the Pride made 11 of their fi rst 14 shots in the second half. Th e Pride managed to hit 51 percent for the game, including 9-for-18 from three-point range. Four Panthers scored in double fi gures. In addition to Ali and Micheaux, Maynor scored 12 points on four treys and Eric Buckner added 11 points and eight rebounds. Hofstra also featured four double-fi gure scorers. Complementing Jenkins were Greg Washington with 13 points, along with fi ve blocked shots, Mike Moore with 12 points and Kelleher with 10. Th at quartet scored 63 of the Pride’s 79 points. Freshman Devonta White, who saw limited action last week coming off an injury, played 26 minutes, scoring four points and dishing out six rebounds.

LOUISIANA TECH 51, GEORGIA STATE 45Thomas Assembly Center • Ruston, La. Georgia State dropped a 51-45 decision to Louisiana Tech on Saturday aft er-noon in the annual ESPN Bracketbusters event at the Th omas Assembly Center. It marked the Panthers fi nal non-conference game of the regular season. Redshirt-junior Jihad Ali led the State with eight points and six rebounds as nine diff erent Panthers scored. Louisiana Tech’s Olu Ashaolu fi nished with a double-double, scoring 18 points and pulling down 11 rebounds, one of three Bulldogs in double fi gures. Georgia State (11-16, 6-10 CAA) dropped its second straight and lost a Brack-etbusters game for the fi rst time under head coach Rod Barnes. Th e Panthers were 4-1 in the annual event entering Saturday and 3-0 under the fourth year head coach. Louisiana Tech (12-16, 2-10 WAC) snapped a four-game losing streak and won its fourth straight over the Panthers dating back to 1976. Playing without leading scorer DeAndre Brown who was suspended in-defi nitely by head coach Kerry Rupp prior to the start of the game, the Bulldogs slashed the Panther defense early. Tech nailed eight of its fi rst 10 shots, while holding the Panthers to just 3 of 11 shooting halfway through the fi rst half. Th e Bulldogs built their lead to 21-8 with 9:48 to play in the half, holding the Panthers without a fi eld goal for nearly seven minutes. Georgia State held Tech without a fi eld goal over the fi nal 8:46 of the half, as the Bulldogs hit just three free throws and missing nine straight fi eld goals, while the Panthers used an 8-0 run to go into halft ime down just 26-23. A dunk by James Vincent quickly cut the Bulldogs lead to just one only sec-onds into the second half. State took its fi rst lead when freshman Rashaad Richardson made a lay-up with 15:07 remaining. State’s 32-31 lead was the only time the Panthers would be ahead. Other than a dunk by Ashaolu, the Panthers held the Bulldogs without a fi eld goal over the fi nal 9:33, but could not take advantage of a several open shots and put backs down the stretch. Down four, senior Marques Johnson nailed a jumper at the top of the key cut the lead to two with 18.6 seconds, but State could not get over the hump. Th e Panthers bench outscored the Bulldogs 18-0, while also holding a slim 34-33 lead on the boards. Sophomore James Vincent, coming off his fi rst career double-double, fi nished with six points and six rebounds, while junior Brandon McGee added six and four boards. Louisiana Tech got 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting from Lonnie Smith, and 10 points from Kenyon McNeaill.
