20 18 METROBAIYK-MTAP.DEPED ]\.IATH CHALLENGE

1. The Metrobank Foundation Inc. (MBFI), the Mathematics Teachers Association of thePhilippines (MTAP), and the Department of Education (DepEd) will hold the2O18 Metrobank-MTAP-DepEd Math Challenge (MMC) from Januaqr to March 2018.

2. The overall objective of the competition is to contribute in improving the quality ofMathematics Education in the Philippines by:

a. awakerring greater interest in Mathematics among elementar5z and juniorhigh school learners;

b. encouraging them to strive for excellence in Mathematics;c. discovering matleematical talents arnong tlrem; andd, developing the values of hardwork, perseverance, honesty, teamwork, and

sportsmanship.

3. The Eliminatlon and Schools Divlslon Level Competition will be participated in byelementary and junior high school leamers nationwide. However, only Grades 6 and 10learners can participate in the Regional and National Finals.

4. A1l public and private schools are required to submit the MMC Form No. 1 (EnclosureNo. 5) to the Schools Division Office for registration. The Division Mathematics Supervisorshould send the MMC Form through an online portal.

5. The Division Mathematics Supervisors shall be in-charge of the preparation,implementation, and documentation of the Eliminations and Division Finals competition,including preparation of the program and fielding of qualified olficials to serve as judges,proctors, and hosts/quizrnasters. They will aiso be responsible for settling all questions,including protests, which may arise in the course of the competilion, or a panel of advisersmay be formed by the Schools Division Superintendent. For securlty and for purposes ofmatntalning the confidentiality of the test questions, the turnover of the test materialswill be documented and all packages in the different stages of the competition wlll beopened simultaneously at 8:OO a.m. on the date of the competition. Please readcarefully MMC Document No. 2 for the Operating Guidelines, as the new policies arestrictly implemented.

6. For the Regional Finals, the Regional Mathematics Supervisors shall be in-charge ofpreparation, implementation, and documentation, including preparation of the prograrn,designation of judges, proctors, correctors for the individuai competition, aildhosts/quizrnasters. Representatives from MTAP will assist in facilitating this stage of the

competition, both in the individual and team competitions. They will also be responsible forsettling all questions, including protests, which may arise in the course of the competition.

7. For the National Finals, the following are flre quaJifications in determining the tenNational Finalists for both individual and team competitions in the elementary andjuniorhighschool levels:

Top scorers for both Categories A and B in the National Capital Region (NCR);Top scorer in each geographical area (the rest of Lttzon, Visayas, andMindanao);and

c. Remaining five top scorers across all regions.

8. The participating parties shall shoulder expenses from the elimination round to theregional finals. Participants from private schools shall make necessary arrangements for theirexpenses with their school heads. At the national finals, the MBFI shall finance thetransportation expenses, accorrunodation, and meal allowance of the national finalists andtheir coaches. MBFI shall also provide the awards for the winners from the division finals(medals) to the regional and national finals (cash prizes, medals, and trophies), as well as cashincentives for the coaches of regional and national finalists.

10. Separate guidelines will be issued for the NCR Competitions.

11. In case of conflict in schedule with other DepEd activities, the schools division andregional olfices are advised to assign appropriate persons to administer the tests at the schoolsdivision and/or regjonal levels on the scheduled dates. As agreed upon by the MMC NationalSteering Committee, conduct of the contest other than the schedule below is not allowed:

72. Arrangements for substitute teachers must be made to ensure that the classes of tleeparticipating teacher-coaches will not be disrupted.

13. The Division Mathematics Supervisors sha1l submit a completion report on theconduct of the elimination and division Iinals on or before February 15, 2018. Only anelectronic copy of the report should be submitted througlr the email addressmnc_secretariat@ahoo. com.
