CHICO STATE "ALL AROUND ATHLETE"
COMPETITION
PURPOSE OF THE EVENT
Provide a fun event for students that can also serve as a motivation for staying fit (in the same way that training for running 5ks does)
Provide students with some health/fitness information
Raise money for local physical education programs (purchase PE equipment for local schools)
Create an athletic event that can become a tradition at CSU Chico
EVENT DETAILS
Held the 2nd-4th week of the Fall semester (this allows time to market but is early enough in the semester to: develop bonds between participants from Residential Housing, promote the WREC, and provide an event before major assignments/finals).
Brackets Competitive Individual Mens Competitive Individual Womens Recreational Coed Team brackets (2 females and 2 males; scores will
be combined) Recreational Floor Team (floors from the Residents Halls; scores will

• Points are awarded for the top 20 finishes in each event (20 points for top score, subtracting 1 point per subsequent rank)
• Points from all events are totaled for a combined score
• Run time + agility time – point deduction based on strength event = score

REGISTRATION
Cut off date is ________________ and max registration is 144 per day (see excel sheet).
Registration will take place at the WREC front desk.
Participants can only register for one bracket.
Teams will need a team captain or representative to pay the entry fee for the entire team at the time of registration and then the team members names may be added to the team roster at a later date prior to the competition date.

BEFORE EVENT
Post WREC time changes and closures
Assign roles for each event
Setup on the night before the competition (agility course, tables, weights, all equipment, printables, clip boards, etc)
Practice run for leaders of each event
Volunteers arrive an hour before the competition begins for instructions on event
CHECK-IN BOOTH – DETAILS
Have a list of registrants by group number. Check off their name (see excel). Fill in participants name on to score card/brochure. Advise them to warm up and be on time for their next event. Run is first event for each group (group start times are staggered).
SPEED EVENT – DETAILS
At check in, they will be assigned a time keeper who is positioned on the inside lane in equally distributed intervals (outside lane open to students for access to rooms and other equipment; will be cordoned off).
Participants will run 5 laps.
Race is started using two-way radios or another method.
Time keepers say lap number each time for their runner.
Time to the nearest second is recorded on unofficial score card/brochure.
Participant returns to check in booth to have it recorded officially.
No contact with other runners allowed.
Ranking in the speed event is averaged with other events’ rankings.
STRENGTH EVENT - DETAILS
At check in, assign participants a scorer and spotter.
A group demonstrate of proper lifts will be given. Elbows down to 900 and do not lock out elbows on extension.
Score keepers call out repetitions. Repeat repetition if incorrect form is used. Spotters must be in the ready position at all times (Assisted lifts do
not count).
Time keeper announces time in 15 second intervals.
Record repetitions for each exercise on the unofficial score card/brochure.
Participant returns to check in booth to have it calculated and officially recorded.
STRENGTH EVENT – DETAILS

Participants will complete as many repetitions as they can within 2 minutes
Total pounds lifted is recorded
Ranking of strength event is averaged with other events’ rankings.
AGILITY EVENT - DETAILS
At check in, participants will be assigned a time keeper.
Utilize 2 basketball courts to set up an agility course (see diagram). Course should take 60-120 seconds to complete to create disparity
among times.
Once participant is halfway through, the next time keeper can send their participant. Each time keeper tracks the participant assigned to them throughout the whole course. Time keepers will follow participant and give directions throughout
the course to minimize confusion.
Participant returns to check in booth to have it recorded officially.
Time is recorded on unofficial score card/brochure (round to the nearest second).

Penalties
Going outside the cones results in Disqualification
Agility Ladder – both feet must go in each square, 1 second deduction per mistake
Low Hurdles – must hop with both feet, 1 second deduction for each hurdle knocked over
If the drop a towel during the shuttle run, they must pick it up

Participants must face the same direction for the entire weave section
Shuttle Run – towel must be picked up at one line then dropped off at the next. The last towel must cross the finish line.

MISCELLANEOUS

Each hour, scores are collected from score keepers and entered into Excel database. Overall rankings are calculated.
