    MAIN FEATURES- Integrated Control of 12 DevicesWith this single remote control, you can controlup to 12 types of devices, including your DVD,television, video recorder, amplifier, and otheraudio-visual (AV) equipment. You can alsochange the display title of the source to yourown customized text.

    - Wide Range of Preset CodesThis remote control is provided with remotecontrol signals for Marantz products and AVequipment by major manufacturers. You canenable the remote control operation of your AVe q u i p m e n t b y s i m p l y s e l e c t i n g t h emanufacturer code corresponding to yourequipment.In the factory default setting, the remotecontrol is preset for signals for Marantz AVequipment products. If you are using Marantzproducts, you can perform remote controlwithout any additional settings.

    - Learning FunctionIf you have an infrared-based remote control,you can use a simple operation to enable thisremote control to learn its codes. This remotecontrol uses non-volatile memory so that thelearned codes are retained even if the batteriesare removed.

    - Lighting FunctionThis remote control features a backlight withelectroluminescence (EL) to light up the LCDand buttons so that it can be used in adarkened location such as a home theater.

    - Large, Easy-to-Read DisplayThe dot matrix LCD displays crisp, clear text.The currently selected source is alwaysdisplayed on the LCD so that operations canbe performed quickly.

    - Macro FunctionThe remote control can be programmed withcomplex strings of multiple commands to allowsuccessive control of equipment with simplebutton operations. You can also set the intervalt ime ( t ransmiss ion in te rva l ) be tweenoperations.

    - Name Assignment FunctionYou can change the names shown on the LCD.

    - Cloning FunctionThis remote control features a cloning system.This enables you to clone the programmedinformation from one RC1400 to another, bysimply pushing a series of buttons. You canselect whether to copy all programmedinformation or copy the information for eachsource.

    - Display Contrast Adjustment FunctionThe contrast on the display can be adjusted.

    - Clock Indicator and Macro Timer FunctionThe remote control’s internal clock functioncan be used to set the timer so that the macroprogram can automatically turn equipment onand off or perform other operations.

    Button Names and Functions

    q Infrared Transmitter and LearningSensor

    This transmitter emits infrared light. Press thebuttons while pointing the transmitter towardsthe infrared receiver window of the amplifier orother AV equipment. Be sure to also pointtowards other remote controls when using thelearning function.

    w POWER ON and OFF buttonsThese buttons are used to turn on and off theamplifier or receiver or turn on and off thepower of source component which has its ownon and off buttons.

    e SOURCE ON/OFF buttonThis button is used to turn a specific source(such as a DVD player) on or off independentlyfrom the rest of the system.

    r M (Mode) buttonThis button is used to program Macros.Pressing this button switches between Normalmode and Macro mode.The > button y is used to move to the nextpage. Up to 20 programs (4 pages) can beperformed. Holding down the M button forthree seconds or more switches to the Setupmode, where the Setup menu is shown on theLCD. The Setup menu has four pages, and the> button y is used to move to the next page.Pressing the > button y from page 4 returnsyou to page 1.

    t D1 to D5 (Direct) buttonsFive types of direct operations can beperformed for each of the 12 source buttonssuch as the DVD, television, amplifier, andother AV equipment. The pages can beswitched, so 4 pages x 5 types = 20 operationscan be performed for a single source. The textdisplay can also be changed.

    y > (Page) buttonThis button is used to switch pages for theDirect button. The current page is shown onthe LCD.

    u VOL (Volume) buttonThis button is used to adjust the volume for theamplifier and television.

    i MUTE buttonThis button is used to mute the audio for theamplifier and television.

    o GUIDE buttonThis button is used to display the menus for theDVD player, DSS (satellite broadcastingtuner), or other AV equipment.

    !0 EXIT buttonThis button is used to cancel settings in themenu or program.

    !1 Numeric buttonsThese buttons are used to switch between 0 to9 of the source components. If the source is setto the amplifier, these buttons are used toperform operations corresponding to thoseshown on the text plate.

    !2 MEMO buttonThis button is used to store settings to memoryor program a source.

    !3 CONTROL buttonThese buttons are used when operating thePLAY, STOP, PAUSE, and other commands ofa source.

    !4 SOURCE buttonThese buttons are used to switch the source ofyour A/V Receiver / amplifier. Each time asource button is pressed, the remote controlchanges to the source which was pressed.This remote control can control 12 types ofequipment. To change the A/V Receiver /amplifier source, press this button twice withintwo seconds. The signal is sent when it ispressed the second time.

    !5 LIGHT 1 and 2 buttonsPressing these buttons will light up the LCDand its buttons. This lighting time can be set. Ifthe lighting time is set to 0 seconds, thebacklight turns on only while this button ispressed. The operations for LIGHT 1 and 2 areidentical.

    !6 CLEAR buttonThis button is used to erase the memory orprogram of a source.

    !7 MENU buttonThis button is used to display the OSD menu ofan amplifier or other source.

    !8 PREV (Previous) buttonThis button is used to return to the previouschannel on the television or other device.

    Display and Functions in Setup Mode

    Holding down the M button for three secondsor more enables you to make various settings.Use the > button y to switch between pages.

    PAGE 1 MENUPreset code settings, code learning, renaming,macro programs, and code erasing areperformed from this menu.

    D1 PRESET:This is used for setting AV equipment byvarious manufacturers. This is also used whenselecting Marantz TV and DVD codes.

    D2 LEARN:This is used when learning codes from otherremote controls.

    D3 NAME:This is used when changing the text displayedon the LCD.

    D4 MACRO:This is used when programming macros andrevising programs.

    D5 ERASE:This is used when erasing learned remotecontrol codes, rewritten names, or othersettings. After erasing, the settings return tothe factory defaults.

    PAGE2 SETUPBacklight lighting time setting, macro intervaltime, LCD contrast and time setting areperformed from this menu

    D1 LIGHT:This is used to change the LCD and buttonbacklight lighting time. It can be set from 0 to60 seconds and is set using the cursor button.

    D2 I-TIME:This is used when setting the transmissioninterval (interval time) for macro programs. Itcan be set from 0.5 to 5 seconds and is setusing the cursor buttons.

    D3 CONT:This is used to change the contrast of the LCD.It can be adjusted to one of 10 levels and is setusing the cursor buttons.

    D4 CLOCK:This is used to set the current time.

    PAGE3 TIMERThe macro timer setting is performed from thismenu.

    D1 DAILY?:This is for using the timer function to execute amacro. Use DAILY when a program will beexecuted at the same time each day.

    D2 ONCE?:This is for using the timer function to execute amacro. Use ONCE when a program will beexecuted only once.

    D5 CANCEL:This is for using the setting time to cancel.

    PAGE4 CLONEThe Clone mode settings are made from thismenu.

    D1 RX:This is used on the receiving unit (slave) whencopying all of the programmed informationfrom another RC1400 remote control.

    D2 RX-S:This is used on the receiving unit (slave) whencopying the programmed information forselected source from another RC1400 remotecontrol.

    D3 TX:This is used on the sending unit (master) whencopying information to another RC1400 remotecontrol.

    Loading Batteries

    Insert the three supplied batteries (AAA type)as shown in the figure below. Load thebatteries with the polarity in the correctdirection (plus + and minus - ends).

    1 Remove the back cover.

    2 Insert the new batteries (AAA type) withcorrect and polarity.

    3 Close until it clicks.

    Note:

    Do not use old batteries and new batteriestogether. This can result in corrosion orleakage of battery fluid.

    The supplied manganese batteries are forchecking operation. Usage of alkalinebatteries is recommended.

    When discarding batteries, be sure tofollow the local regulations for your area.Do not put batteries in a fire.

    Battery Replacement Interval

    Under normal usage, alkaline batteries lastapproximately four months. When the batterieswear out, a battery mark is displayed on theLCD. Although the remote control can still beused when the battery mark is displayed, thebatteries should be replaced as soon aspossible. The LCD eventually starts to flashwhen buttons are pressed, the remote controlwill be unable to transmit signals or learncodes.

    • This remote control uses non-volati lememory so that the learned codes andmacro programs are retained even if thebatteries are removed.

    Reset the clock after replacing the batteries.

    Safety Precautions for BatteriesBe sure to always observe the followingprecaut ions to prevent f lu id leakage,overheating, f i re, breakage, accidentalingestion, and other accidents.• If the batteries are left unused for a long

    period of time, the battery fluid may leak orthe batteries may corrode.

    • Do not use the batteries in the remotecontrol with the plus and minus polarityreversed.

    • Do not attempt to recharge, heat, ordisassemble the batteries. Do not put thebatteries in a fire.

    • Do not use the remote control with oldbatteries or worn-out batteries inserted.

    • Do not use different types of batteries or mixold and new batteries in the remote control.

    • If the remote control is not operatingproperly, replace the batteries with newones.

    • If any of the batteries are leaking, completelywipe up all leaked battery fluid, and thenreplace the batteries with new ones.

    Setting the Time

    Example: Setting to 6:20PM (18:20)

    When you bought this remote control andinsert the batteries to the remote control atfirst, the steps 1 to 3 are skipped.Starts from step 4 to set the time.

    1 Hold down the M button r for threeseconds or more.The menu is displayed.

    2 Press the > button y once.This displays second page (SETUP).

    3 Press the D4 (CLOCK) direct button t.The “ ” indicator blinks and the clock indicator

    displays “0:00”.

    4 Press the 1 and 8 numeric button !1 to setthe hour indicator.The hour indicator displays “18”.

    The minute indicator blinks “_”.

    5 Press the 2 and 0 numeric button !1 to setthe minute indicator.The minute indicator displays “20”.

    The hour indicator blinks.

    6 Press the OK cursor button @0 to start theclock.The clock starts from 0 second at the time that was set

    and return to normal (USE) mode.

    BASIC OPERATION

    USE Mode

    (Normal operation status)This remote control is preset with a total of 12types of remote codes, including Marantz TV(television), DVD, VCR (VCR deck), DSS(satellite broadcasting tuner), TUNER, CD,CD-R, MD, TAPE (tape deck), AUX1, AUX2,and AMP (amplifier).Learning is not necessary for Marantzproducts. You can use these products withoutsetting any codes.

    1 Press the SOURCE button !4.For this example, press DVD.

    DVD is shown on the LCD, and the remote control is

    set for DVD.

    Pressing the source button once changes the remote

    control to the settings for the source that was pressed.

    To change the amplifier or other source, press the

    SOURCE button twice (double-click). The code is

    sent, and then the amplifier source changes to DVD.

    2 Press the buttons to operate the DVD.The indicator is shown on the LCD while the

    remote control codes are being transmitted. It is not

    displayed when buttons without stored code are

    pressed.

    3 The direct buttons t can be used toperform up to 20 operations for each of the12 sources, including DVD, TV, AMP, andother AV equipment.The buttons consist of the D1 to D5 buttons, and the

    equipment is operated by pressing the buttons

    corresponding to the indicators on the LCD.

    Four pages are available, and press the > button to

    select a page. The current page position is displayed

    on the LCD.

    ( W h e n o p e r a t i n g n o n - M a r a n t z A Vequipment products)This remote control is preset with remotecontrol codes from AV equipment by othermanufacturers. The preset codes are TV,VCR, LD, CABLE, DSS, DVD, TAPE, TUNER,CD, CD-R, MD and AMP. Settings can bemade in one of two ways.When the preset codes are set, the followingcodes are contained in the source button of theremote control.

    See the attached manufacturer number list forthe preset manufacturers, devices, presetnumbers, and other settings.

    • When using Marantz products, TV and DVDcan be set to TV1 (TV/VDP: Projector) andTV2 (PDP: Plasma display), and DVD1 (firstDVD player) and DVD2 (second DVDplayer ) , respect ive ly , to match thecustomer’s operating environment. Thesesettings are made in PRESET mode.

    In the factory default state, the remotecontrol is set to TV1 and DVD1. To make thepresets, enter the numbers below whilereferring to the section “Entering and Settingthe Manufacturer Number Directly”.

    Entering and Setting the ManufacturerNumber DirectlyRefer to the manufacturer number list.This example shows how to set a SAMSUNGDVD player.

    1 View the supplied manufacturer numberl is t , and f ind the number o f themanufacturer for the device that you areusing.

    2 Hold down the M button r for threeseconds or more.The menu is displayed.

    3 Press the D1 (PRESET) direct button t.The Preset setting (P-SET) is displayed.

    4 Press the DVD source button !4.5 Press the numeric buttons !1 to enter the

    four-digit manufacturer number.Example: To enter “0600” from the manufacturer

    number list.

    To correct the entered number, use the or cursor

    button to enter the correct number.• If no button is pressed for over one minute

    during the setting process, any settings that weremade are cancelled.

    6 Press the OK cursor button @0.7 Confirm the OK is displayed and then the

    display returns to the Preset Setting (P-SET).When the manufacturer number is entered correctly,

    OK is displayed momentarily on the screen.• If you enter a number not in the manufacturer

    number list, WRONG CODE is displayed, andthen you return to the preset setting again

    Check the manufacturer number list, and eitherset a different number or use the sequencefunction to set.

    9 After the settings are completed, press theM button r.

    10 Press the buttons on the remote control tocheck that the DVD can be operatedcorrectly.

    Setting Equipment Not Appearing inManufacturer Number ListUse the sequence function to set equipmentnot appearing in the manufacturer number list.You may still be unable to set some equipmenteven when using the sequence function. In thiscase, the remote control can be programmedwith codes individually.In the sequence function, the power ON/OFFcodes are transmitted by pressing the remotecontrol buttons in order.If the power for the equipment is left on, holddown the button until the equipment is turnedoff, and then release. This completes thesetting.

    This example shows how to set a DVD player.

    1 Turn on the power of the DVD player.2 Hold down the M button r for three

    seconds or more.The menu is displayed.

    3 Press the D1 (PRESET) direct button t.The Preset setting (P-SET) is displayed.

    4 Press the DVD source button !4.5 Hold down the CH+ or CH– button !9 for

    one second or more.6 Press the CH+ button !9 repeatedly in the

    interval for one second.The signal is transmitted, and the display cycles

    through the code number.

    Press the CH– button to go back to a number screen.

    7 Release the button once the DVD playerturns off.

    8 Press the OK cursor button @0.

    Check the following points if the equipmentwhich was set does not operate properly.• If there is more than one number in the

    manufacturer number list, try setting adifferent number.

    • There may be some buttons which cannot beused. Program the codes to the required buttons.

    LEARN Mode

    Programming the (PLAY) and OtherControl Buttons and Numeric ButtonsThis remote control is capable of learning andstoring codes used by other remote controlsthat you already own.For codes which are not learned, the remotecontrol will transmit either the Marantz presetcodes from the initial settings, or remote codesfrom another manufacturer’s AV equipmentwhich is set by the customer.The receiver sensor for the remote controlsignals is located at the top of the remote control.

    This example shows how to learn the codesfrom the remote control of a DVD player.1 2 4

    PROGRAMMING MACROSThis remote control can program a series ofbutton operations in sequence.Macros are a function that makes it possible touse a single button operation to perform acomplex series of button operations anynumber of times. A single button can beprogrammed to perform up to 20 steps insequence. A total of 20 buttons can beprogrammed with macros.• For example, the following sequence of

    operations can be programmed to a macro.

    Switch amplifier to DVD source → Setamplifier mode to AUTO → Play DVD player→ Switch TV to video input

    The factory default for the transmission interval(time) between macro operations is onesecond, but these signal transmission intervalscan be set between approximately 0.5 secondsand 5 seconds in the Setup mode. Eachtransmission interval can be adjustedindependently when programming or revising amacro.

    Note:If the signal transmission interval (intervaltime) is changed using the Setup mode(described later), this transmission intervalis applied to all macro programs. To changeindividual signal transmission intervals, usethe p rocedures in th i s sec t ion fo rprogramming macros and revising macros.

    • N o s i g n a l s a r e t r a n s m i t t e d w h i l eprogramming a macro.

    • The M button r, > button y, cursor buttons@0, MEMO button !2, CLEAR button !6, andVOL buttons u cannot be programmed.

    • If no button is pressed for approximately oneminute during programming, the remotecontrol returns to the state before macromode.

    In this case, the macro program is notstored.

    • When executing macro mode, performingthe source switching operation two or moretimes only changes the remote control modeand does not t ransmi t any s ignals .(Switching of the source selector of theamplifier is valid only once.)

    Creating Copies Using Clone Mode

    All of the codes programmed to the RC1400remote control can be copied to anotherRC1400 using a few simple operations.• The remote control can copy the entire

    contents or the contents for specific sourcebuttons.

    • When copying the entire contents, allprogrammed codes, modif ied names,p r o g r a m m e d m a c r o s , a n d s i g n a ltransmission intervals are copied.

    When copying the contents for source buttons,the programmed codes and modified namesare copied.

    Note:The clone function can only be used forcopying when using the same model (RC1400)for both the transmitting and receiving remotecontrol.

    Setting the Lighting Time

    • The LCD lights up when the LIGHT buttons!5 are pressed. The LCD remains lit whilethe pressed button is held down, and it goesoff when the button is released.

    • The LCD continues to light up if anotherbutton is pressed while it is lit or if pressedwithin two seconds after the light goes off.

    • The lighting time can be set in one-secondunits from 0 to 60 seconds.

    The LIGHT buttons have light-absorbingproperties that enable them to store light. If thebuttons are no longer illuminated in a dimly litenvironment, br ing the buttons near afluorescent lamp or other light source for asuff ic ient amount of t ime. This shouldilluminate the buttons again.• The LIGHT buttons consist of a LIGHT1 and

    LIGHT2 button, and they both perform thesame operation.

    The factory default lighting time is set to 15seconds.

    This example shows how to set the lightingtime to 20 seconds.

    Setting the Macro Interval Time

    When a macro program is executed, controlsignals are transmitted in sequence. Thistransmission interval (interval time) can be setin 0.5-seconds units from 0.5 to 5 seconds.If the interval time is set in this Setup mode, theinterval times for all programmed macros arechanged. If necessary, use EDIT (see page33) in the macro program to change theindividual transmission times.The factory default setting for the transmissioninterval is 1 second.

    This example shows how to set the intervaltime to 5 seconds.

    D1 LIGHT (éclairage) :Est utilisé pour changer le temps de rétro-éclairage de l’écran LCD et des touches. Ilpeut être réglé de 0 à 60 secondes au moyendes touches de curseur.

    D2 I-TIME (temps intervalle) :Est utilisé pour régler l’intervalle d’émission(temps d’intervalle) pour les programmesmacro. Il peut être réglé de 1 à 10 secondes aumoyen des touches de curseur.

    D3 CONT (contraste) :Est utilisé pour changer le contraste de l’écranLCD. Il peut être réglé sur l’un de 10 niveauxau moyen des touches de curseur.

    D4 CLOCK (horloge) :Est utilisé pour régler l’heure actuelle. Elle estréglée au moyen des touches de curseur.

    PAGE 3 TIMER (minuterie)Le réglage de la minuterie macro s'effectuedepuis ce menu.

    D1 DAILY? (quotidiennement ?) :Sert à utiliser la fonction de minuterie pourexécuter une macro. Utilisez DAILY lorsqu’unprogramme sera exécuté tous les jours à lamême heure.

    D2 ONCE? (une fois ?) :Sert à utiliser la fonction de minuterie pourexécuter une macro. Utilisez ONCE lorsqu’unprogramme ne sera exécuté qu’une seule fois.

    Chargement des piles

    Introduisez les trois piles (type AAA) fourniescomme illustré sur la figure ci-dessous. Chargezles piles avec leurs polarités dans le sens correct(extrémités positive + et négative -).

    1 Remove the back cover.

    2 Insert the new batteries (AAA type) withcorrect and polarity.

    3 Close until it clicks.

    Remarque :

    Ne chargez pas en même temps des pilesdéjà utilisées et des piles neuves. Cela peutprovoquer une corrosion ou une fuite duliquide de pile.

    Les piles au manganèse fournies sontdestinées à vérifier le fonctionnement. Il estrecommandé d’utiliser des piles alcalines.

    Pour jeter les piles, respectez toujours laréglementation locale en vigueur dans votrerégion. Ne mettez pas des piles dans un feu.

    Fréquence de remplacement des piles

    Lors d'une util isation normale, les pilesalcalines durent environ quatre mois. Lorsqueles piles s'épuisent, un symbole de piles'aff iche sur l 'écran LCD. Bien que latélécommande puisse encore être utiliséelorsque ce symbole est affiché, les pilesdoivent être remplacées le plus rapidementpossible. L'écran LCD commence ensuite àclignoter lorsque vous appuyez sur destouches et la télécommande ne pourra plusémettre de signaux ni apprendre de codes.

    * Cet te té lécommande incorpore unemémoire non volatile de sorte que les codesappris et les programmes macro sontconservés même si les piles sont retirées.

    Réglez l’horloge après avoir remplacé lespiles.

    Précautions de sécurité concernant lespilesVeillez à toujours respecter les précautionssuivantes afin d’éviter une fuite de liquide, unesurchauffe, un incendie, une rupture, uneingestion accidentelle et d’autres problèmes.• Si les piles ne sont pas utilisées pendant

    longtemps, le liquide de pile peut fuir ou lespiles se corroder.

    • N’utilisez pas les piles avec les polaritésinversées dans la télécommande.

    • N’essayez pas de recharger, chauffer oudémonter les piles. Ne jetez pas les pilesdans un feu.

    • N’utilisez pas la télécommande avec devieilles piles ou des piles épuisées.

    • N’utilisez pas des types de piles différentsou ne mélangez pas des piles vieilles etneuves dans la télécommande.

    • Si la télécommande ne fonctionne pascorrectement, remplacez les piles par desneuves.

    • Si une des piles fuit, essuyez complètementtout le l iquide de pile qui a fuit, puisremplacez les piles par des neuves.

    Réglage de l’heure

    Lorsque vous achetez cette télécommande etintroduisez les piles pour la première fois dansla té lécommande, les étapes 1 à 3 sontsautées.Commencez à partir de l'étape 4 pour réglerl'heure.

    6 Appuyez sur la touche de curseur @0 OKpour démarrer l’horloge.L’horloge démarre à partir de 0 seconde à l'heure qui

    a été réglée et retourne au mode normal (USE).Lorsque vous remplacez les piles, l’horlogeindique 00:00. Réglez de nouveau l’horloge.(Le réglage de l’heure n’est pas sauvegardé.)

    Vérification de l’heurePour vérifier l’heure, appuyez sur la touche >y pendant trois secondes ou plus. L’heureactuelle s’affiche pendant cinq secondes.

    RemarqueBien que la télécommande utilise une horlogeà quartz, l’heure peut se désynchroniser avecle temps. Remettez toujours l’horloge à l’heurede temps en temps.

    DVD s’affiche sur l’écran LCD et la télécommande

    Une pression sur la touche de source fait passer la
