‘O people! there has come an admonition to you from your Lord, and healing

of hearts, and a guidance and a mercy for the believers.

(Yunus 10, Verse 57)

When our Master, Allah’s beloved Messenger, Muhammad Mustafa – may Allah

send peace and blessings upon him – was born, it was the age of ignorance (The

age gap of approximately 570 years in which no Prophet was appointed after

Nabi Isa – peace be upon him – was raised into the heavens). The people of

Arabia considered themselves as proud custodians of eloquence and command

over the Arabic language and dialect. Allah Almighty bestowed such a Noble

Book upon the beloved Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him

– which includes the formula to cure all the physical and spiritual ailments.

Quran is the Active Miracle of the Beloved Prophet – may Allah send peace and

blessings upon him – until the Day of Judgement.

Past miracles given to the Prophets were miracles that were for that moment and

time only. After that, it remained in the pages of history and nothing else.

However, the Almighty in His Infinite Grace has given the Holy Prophet - peace

and salutations be upon him- a miracle in the form of the Quran which will last

forever. The miracle of the Quran is such that no one has been able to answer its

challenge, and no one will be able to answer its challenge until the day of

Judgement. In fact, such is the vast ocean of knowledge which is found in the

Quran that every person has found his own answers in the Quran. It is such a

vast ocean that the deeper a person delves into the ocean of knowledge, which is

the Quran, the more he returns to the surface more amazed all the time. In fact,

in front of the Quran, everyone has remained amazed and speechless.

The Eloquence of Allah’s Speech:

When the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – recited

the Holy Quran, the people of high intellect and eloquence were dumb founded

and found themselves helpless against the Divine Revelation. There were those

fortunate companions who embraced Islam after being inspired by the Holy

Quran.

Hazrat Jubair ibn Mut’im – may Allah be pleased with him – was considered to

be one of the most eloquent personalities of Arabia. One day when he was

present in the blessed court of the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and

blessings upon him – while he was reciting Surah Toor in Fajr Salah. Hazrat

Jubair ibn Mut’im continued to listen to the recitation, and when he heard the

following verses:

﴿ بك لوقع اب ر ذ ع ن ﴾۷ا

Surely, the torment of your Lord is certainly to occur,

﴿ ن دافع م H ا ﴾ ۸م

There is none to avert it.

(Al-Toor 52, Verse 7-8)

He says, “I felt as if the punishment of Allah was heading towards me. The hair

of my body stood up due to the fear of Allah. I acknowledged the excellence of

Quran in my heart and embraced Islam by reading Kalimah.

(E’jaaz al-Quran p. 40)

Hazrat Umar – may Allah be pleased with him – used to be such an ardent enemy

of the beloved Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – that

one day he left home with the intention of killing him, but when he listened to

the recitation of Surah Taha, the darkness of his kufr was taken away by the light

of Quran and changed the condition of his heart instantly. He embraced Islam,

alhamdulillah.

‘Atabah ibn Rabee’ah was one of the greatest and most eloquent orators of the

Quraish but when he heard the few initial verses of Surah Haa-Meem from the

blessed lips of the beloved Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon

him – he was struck with immense fear and dominance of Allah’s Jalaal. He

approached the Quraish in that state and told them that whatever Muhammad

(may Allah send peace and blessings upon him) reads is neither poetry nor is it

magic or soothsaying but it has such a spiritual impact that we find ourselves

helpless and submit to it with all our hearts. It creates Allah’s fear in the heart

and by God, we do not have any match for even one word of his.

(E’jaaz al-Quran p. 41)

The Challenge of Quran remains…

Over a thousand years have elapsed and many generations have come and gone.

Some of the best brains in the world have also come and gone, yet, the challenge

of the Quran has remained unanswered. No matter how much resources people

have, yet mankind has never been able to answer the challenge of the Quran. In

fact, Sayyidi Ala Hadrat May Allah have mercy upon him, has mentioned that

besides having no tongues, they do not even have life in their bodies to be able to

answer this challenge.

It is mentioned that when the three verses of Surah Kauther were revealed, the

Holy Prophet- peace and salutations be upon him- placed this on the wall of the

Kaba. This was also one of the methods adopted by the earlier Arabs when they

were, of the opinion that they had composed or written something which others

would not be able to challenge. The same has been mentioned by the famous set

of poems which have been referred to as “As Sab’ul Mu’allaqaat”. When the

disbelievers saw this, they tried their level best but failed to answer the challenge

of only three lines of the Quran. All they could say was that this is indeed not

the words of an ordinary human.

The same example has been mentioned about Imam Asma’i which we have

mentioned earlier. While in a jungle, he mentioned the words that the Almighty

is All Merciful and All Beneficent after reciting the verse pertaining to cutting

off the hands of a thief. However, an ordinary villager who was sitting nearby

corrected him merely by listening to these words. And when the learned Imam

heard this and then pondered on what he was reading, he realised that he had

indeed made a mistake. In other words, the miracle of the Quran is such that

each word and letter, each sentence before and after has an amazing connection

with each other.

When we look at the words of a human or any of his writing, we will find that

sometimes he writes or composes a sentence or passage which should only be

mentioned on a happy occasion.

Sometimes people write a passage which should be mentioned on a sad occasion.

However, such is the miracle of the Quran that when it is recited on a joyous

occasion, the joy of people doubles and increases. When it is recited on a sad

occasion, the sadness of people disappears, and the entire atmosphere becomes

one of Nur upon Nur.

Even the Kuffar accepted The Quran as a miracle!

Uqbah bin Waleed accepted the miracle of the Quran and its amazing

eloquence, yet, in his stubbornness, he remained firm on kufr. Allamah Imam

Abul Hayyan Andalusi May Allah have mercy upon him narrates, “One day,

Waleed bin Mughayrah mentioned to the Bani Makhzum, ‘Today I have

listened to such words from Mohammed which can never be the words of a

human or a jinn. These words are sweeter than honey and is like the ocean

when it flows. Its might is like the mountain and its depth is like a lake. These

words are above all other words and the most supreme and mighty. No one

can overpower these words.” However, this ignoramus despite admitting these

words, remained firm in his kufr and in a fit of jealousy, he admitted as

mentioned in Surah Muddatthir verses 24,25 that:

Page 6: !

And said, ‘this is the same magic learnt from old ones.

ر ﴿ قول الSش لا ا ا ن هذ ﴾۲۵ا ‘This is not but the word of man.

In fact, by virtue of the fact, that there is nothing short or extra in the Quran, in

itself it’s the greatest miracle. One of the greatest miracles of the Quran was that

whatever prediction appeared in its pages happened exactly like it mentioned.

When we look at the various subjects described in the Quran, all of these have

been a source of amazement to people every century. Whether it pertains to the

sun, the moon, the stars, what is to be found in the womb of a female, the creation

of a child and its progress within the womb, the both oceans and how they remain

separate etc. All of these have amazed people over the years and yet all of them

have been mentioned in the Quran. One must, merely refer to the book, “The

Bible, the Quran and science” to understand this better. No doubt Maurice

Bucallie has done a splendid job even though he was a non- Muslim. But such is

the miracle of the Quran that even the non- Muslims are forced to accept its

message as a miracle. Some do so happily while others do so grudgingly.

The Fragrant Perspiration of RasoolAllah

There is no doubt that the blessed name of Sayyidah Umme Sulaim Rameesa binte

Malhaan – may Allah be pleased with her – is quite famous in Islamic history.

She is also the blessed mother of Hadrat Sayyiduna Aanis bin Malik – may Allah

be pleased with him – and the husband of Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Talha Ansari –

Page 7: !ْﻴ ﻠ ﻋ - .˘ﺼ 0 /نْﺎ ﺑ 23ْٰﺮ ﻳو ﺐ/ﺤ ﻳ ﺎ ﻤﻛ م د* ﺪْﻟو ﺪ+ﻴﺳ

may Allah be pleased with him. She had immense love and reverence for the

Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – and is considered

as one of the most senior of Muslims.

Her first husband, Malik bin Nadr refused to accept Islam. He left for Syria and

died there. She then dedicated her life to serving Islam and the Muslims and

dedicated her young son to serving the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and

blessings be upon him. Some historians are also of the opinion that her mother

was also the foster sister of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings

be upon him – and that is the reason that there was never an issue of pardah

between her and the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon

him.

The Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – used to also

visit her and sometimes take the Qaylulah in her house. On the bed on which he

rested, there was also a piece of leather and when the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s

peace and blessings be upon him – used to rest on the bed, his blessed perspiration

used to also drip on this piece of leather. When she saw this, she collected the

blessed perspiration in a small bottle. When the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s

peace and blessings be upon him – asked her what she was doing, she replied that

she was collecting this to mix with the other fragrances which she had. She also

instructed her son, Hadrat Sayyiduna Aanis – may Allah be pleased with him, to

apply the blessed perspiration on her kafan which was completed as requested.

(Sahih Muslim, Musnad Imam Ahmed)

The Vast Knowledge of Rasoolullah

Every genuine Muslim is fully aware that Hadrat Sayyiduna Mohammed bin

Ismail bin Mughayrah – May Allah be pleased with him – is considered as one of

the greatest Muhaddith in the history of Islam. This is also one of the reasons

that he was given the title of “Ameerul Mo’mineen fil Hadith”.

During his early childhood his eyes began to lose vision and through the Du’a of

his mother, his vision was restored. Hadrat Sayyiduna Mohammed bin Ismail

bin Mughayrah – May Allah be pleased with him –had visited nearly a thousand

teachers and had recorded numerous Ahadith from them. He had memorized

nearly a hundred thousand Sahih Hadith and nearly two hundred thousand non-

Sahih Hadith. Everyone knows that his immense contribution to Islam is his

masterpiece the Sahih Bukhari. This was completed in sixteen years. The great

Imam passed away in 256 A.H.

Hadrat Sayyiduna Imam Bukhari – May Allah be pleased with him – records

from Hadrat Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik – May Allah be pleased with him – that

when the famous religious leader of the Jews, Abdullah bin Salaam, heard that

the Holy Prophet – May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – had arrived

in Madina Shareef, he went to meet the Holy Prophet – May Allah’s peace and

blessings be upon him.

When he had presented himself in front of the Holy Prophet – May Allah’s peace

and blessings be upon him, he asked, “I wish to ask you three questions which

besides a Prophet, no one else will be able to answer. They are:

1. Which is one of the first signs of Qiyamah?

2. Which will be the first food eaten by the people in Jannah?

3. Why does a child sometimes resemble the mother and sometimes the

father?

When the Holy Prophet – May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – heard

these questions, he mentioned, “Just now Jibra’eel Ameen had given me the

answers to these questions.”

Abdullah bin Salaam asked, “Among the Angels, he is considered as the enemy

of the Jews.”

When the Holy Prophet – May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – heard

this, he recited the 97th, 98th and 99th verses of Surah Baqarah which are:

ا بين م قا ل د ذن االله مص ا V قلبك ب ع H ه نز ن يل فا بر ج ا ل و د قل من كان ع

brought down this Qu’ran to your heart by Allah’s command, confirming the

Books before it, and a guidance and glad tidings to Muslims. – “Whoever is an

enemy to Allah, and His angels and His Noble Messengers, and Jibreel and

Mikaeel -, then (know that), Allah is an enemy of the disbelievers.” We have

indeed sent down to you clear signs; and none will disbelieve in them except the

sinners.

The Holy Prophet – May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – then

continued, “The first sign on the Day of Judgement is that there will be a large

fire which will gather people from the East and move them together to the West.

The first food for the people of Jannah will be the heart (liver) of the fish. When

the sperm of the male overpowers the semen of the female, then the child is

similar in appearance to the father and when the female fluids overpowers that

of the male, then the child is similar in appearance to the mother.”

Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Salaam – May Allah be pleased with him – heard

these answers, he immediately recited the Kalimah and accepted Islam. He said,

“The Jews are people, who are always accusing others without basis. If they come

to know that I have accepted Islam, then they will certainly accuse and blame me

without any valid reason. Therefore, it is better that you first inquire from them

about me.”

When the Jews arrived in front of the Holy Prophet – May Allah’s peace and

blessings be upon him, he asked them, “What do you people have to say about

Abdullah. What type of person is he?” They replied, “He is the best among us

and a leader who is the son of a leader.”

The Holy Prophet – May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – then asked

them, “What would you say if he accepts Islam, (will you still accept him.)?”

The Jews replied, “May Allah protect him from this.”

At that moment, Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Salaam – May Allah be pleased

with him – appeared from behind the door and recited the Kalimah in front of

these people. When the Jews saw that he had indeed accepted Islam, they began

to say, “He is the worst among us and the son of the worst person among us.”

They continued to heave other insults against him.

Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Salaam – May Allah be pleased with him

– mentioned to the Holy Prophet – May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him

– that this is what he was afraid of in the first place. (Sahih Bukhari, #4480)

It is at this moment that Allah Almighty revealed the 10th verse of Surah Ahqaf

which is:

faith in it, and a witness among the Descendants of Israel has already testified

upon this and accepted faith, while you became arrogant? Indeed, Allah does

not guide the unjust.”

Since Hadrat Sayyiduna Imam Bukhari – May Allah be pleased with him – had

recorded this from Hadrat Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik – May Allah be pleased

with him – it is important that we mention something about this eminent

companion. He was a person who served the Holy Prophet – May Allah’s peace

and blessings be upon him – for nearly ten years as his personal servant. In fact,

at times, the Holy Prophet – May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – used

to also call him “Ya Zal Uzunain” or “the person with two ears”. His mother is

the famous female Ashaabiyah named Sayyidah Umme Sulaim – May Allah be

pleased with her. During the time of Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Hadrat

Sayyiduna ‘Umar – May Allah be pleased with them – he was the Aamil of

Bahrain. He had immense love and reverence for the Holy Prophet – May Allah’s

peace and blessings be upon him – and whenever he mentioned the Holy

Prophet – May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – he used to weep

intensely in remembrance of the Holy Prophet – May Allah’s peace and blessings

be upon him. He lived till the age of ninety and passed away in Basrah. When

he passed away, Murarriq Ajali declared, “Today half the knowledge in the world

has been raised.”

Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Salaam’s – May Allah be pleased with him – full

name is Abdullah bin Salaam bin Haarith and he is a descendent of Nabi Yusuf

bin Yaqub – peace be upon them. During the days of ignorance, his name was

Haseen and when he accepted Islam, the Holy Prophet – May Allah’s peace and

blessings be upon him – gave him the name “Abdullah”. When the Holy

Prophet – May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – arrived in Madina

Shareef, this eminent companion went to meet him and when he saw the Holy

Prophet – May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – he declared, “I swear

by Allah that this can never be the face of a false person.”

He was the first person to hear the advice of the Holy Prophet – May Allah’s

peace and blessings be upon him – that one should make the Salaam common

among people. People should be fed, family relationship should be strengthened

and when people are sleeping at night, then one should busy oneself with Ibadah.

He passed away in 34 A.H.

(Usdul Ghaabah, Vol. 3)

The Cloth did Not Burn:

In the Masnawi Shareef, an unusual story is mentioned about the amazing miracle

of a cloth which belonged to the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings

be upon him.

Once, Hadrat Sayyiduna Anas – may Allah be pleased with him – invited a few

Ashaab to partake in some food. When they placed the cloth on the floor, they

noticed that it was a little soiled. Hadrat Sayyiduna Anas – may Allah be pleased

with him – then instructed his female servant to place this in the hot burning fire.

His two guests were extremely surprised and waited for this cloth to burn.

However, they were surprised that a few moments later, the cloth appeared from

the fire, absolutely clean with no signs of it being burnt!

Page 13: !ْﻴ ﻠ ﻋ - .˘ﺼ 0 /نْﺎ ﺑ 23ْٰﺮ ﻳو ﺐ/ﺤ ﻳ ﺎ ﻤﻛ م د* ﺪْﻟو ﺪ+ﻴﺳ

www.musjidulhaq.com

13

If this is the status of a piece of cloth which had a connection with the Holy

Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – imagine the state of

that person who is connected to the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and

blessings be upon him – as an Ummati? How can this sincere person burn in the

Fire of Hell?

Today, we are looking for our respect. How can we gain respect in the eyes of

anyone when you deliberately turn away from the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet –

may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – and try to impersonate a Western

person. Even if you do impersonate these modern people, there is a possibility

that people may not even want to look at you, however, if you try to emulate the

Sunnah of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, the

whole world will take notice of you. Not only this, but by following the Holy

Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – you will also become

a beloved slave of Allah Almighty.

Barakah in Dates through His Miracle:

Ibn Hishaam records through various historical material that the blessed

daughter of Basheer bin Sa’ad and the sister of the famous companion, Hadrat

Sayyiduna Numaan bin Basheer – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates that

her mother Sayyidah Umrah binte Rawaaha – may Allah be pleased with her

– once gave her some dates in a container and mentioned that she should give

these dates to her father and maternal uncle, Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdullah bin

Rawaaha – may Allah be pleased with him.

She narrates further, “As I was searching for my father and uncle, I passed by the

Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. He then asked me

what I had in the container and I mentioned that it was dates which I needed to

give to my father and uncle. The Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings

be upon him – then asked me to place these dates in his blessed hands which I

Page 14: !ْﻴ ﻠ ﻋ - .˘ﺼ 0 /نْﺎ ﺑ 23ْٰﺮ ﻳو ﺐ/ﺤ ﻳ ﺎ ﻤﻛ م د* ﺪْﻟو ﺪ+ﻴﺳ

14

did. He then asked for a piece of cloth to be brought and when this was placed,

he placed the dates onto this piece of cloth. He then asked someone to call the

Muslims who were busy in preparing the trench and asked them to come forward

and eat. All the Muslims came forward and began to eat. However, as they began

to eat, the dates began to increase to such a degree that even the cloth overflowed

with dates.”

This incident proves a clear Mo’jizah of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace

and blessings be upon him – and proves the immense contribution of the Muslim

females of that blessed era. Bear in mind that due to hunger, the Holy Prophet –

may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – and the other blessed companions

had actually tied stoned on their stomachs and this was a Divine Relief which

came to them through the blessed hands of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace

and blessings be upon him.

(Seerah An Nabawi, Ibn Hishaam)

THE MIRACLE OF THE SPLITTING OF THE MOON

In Surah Qamar, verse 1, the Qur’an declares:

ر ﴿ القم ق ة و اoش اع بت الس قتر ﴾ ۱ا “The Hour came near and the moon was split.”

There is no doubt that as much as the splitting of the moon is accepted as one of

the greatest miracles of the Holy Prophet Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam, it is

also one of the major signs of the Day of Judgement when the entire universe will

be topsy turvy.

The unique method adopted by the disbelievers to stop the spread of Islam!

When the disbelievers in Makkah Shareef became disheartened and began to feel

that they would never stop the spread of Islam because the more they tried to

stop it, the more it spread, so they finally decided to bring in a third party.

Page 15: !ْﻴ ﻠ ﻋ - .˘ﺼ 0 /نْﺎ ﺑ 23ْٰﺮ ﻳو ﺐ/ﺤ ﻳ ﺎ ﻤﻛ م د* ﺪْﻟو ﺪ+ﻴﺳ

Abu Jahl decided to write a special letter to a person named Habeeb bin Malik

who was the Governor of Syria at the time and a very close friend of Abu Jahl.

His correspondence among other things mentioned that, “When we speak to

Muhammad using different testimony, he has always defeated us. Presently, your

religion and the religion of your forefathers has become weak and lame.

Therefore, before this religion spreads even further, it is better that you come and

meet him. …”

The purpose of calling Habeeb was twofold. Firstly, he was a powerful person in

a powerful position and secondly, he was also well known as a Hakeem (healer).

Since the disbelievers were convinced that the Holy Prophet Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi

Wasallam had become insane (Ma’zallah), therefore Habeeb would be able to

heal him. However, little did they realise that it was Allah azza wajal who was

bringing Habeeb to be healed!

Habeeb arrived in Makkah Shareef with twelve of his companions. The

disbelievers in Makkah Shareef gave him a very warm welcome. He then asked,

“Where is this ill person. What and how does he speak?”

Abu Jahl replied, “His name is Muhammad and he was born in Makkah. He is

also my nephew. For nearly forty years we have accepted him as the truthful and

the honest, (in other words, “Ameen” and “Saadiq”). However, at this moment

he is calling himself a Prophet.”

Habeeb then requested that he be shown this new Prophet as quickly as possible.

However, Abu Jahl replied, “Do not be in a hurry. There are many that have

approached him before, but they have not returned to us! They have left our ranks

and joined the folds of this Muhammad. They also keep saying

If your intention is peace and tranquillity in both worlds

Then hold tightly to that blessed being whose name is Muhammad.”

Habeeb then began to ponder deeply on what type of “ill” person he was dealing

with.

He asked them to bring the Holy Prophet Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam to him.

He declared he will place his hand on the hand of the Holy Prophet Sallal Laahu

‘Alayhi Wasallam and be able to diagnose the illness.

Abu Jahl replied, “Before you ‘Umar bin Khattab also placed his hand in his hand

and never returned. Now, he has become an ardent follower of this Muhammad

and has become like a messenger of death to us. He has abandoned his family

and his clan and even though we have explained to him on many occasions, yet,

he is not prepared to listen to us.”

Habeeb then declared, “If that is the case, then I will not hold his hand, I will

merely look him in the eye and be able to diagnose his illness. Depending on the

colour which I see, I will be able to fathom his illness”.

Abu Jahl replied, “At first, Bilal also looked into his eyes and today he is willing

to lay on the hot burning sand and be patient with whatever punishment is given

to him.”

Hearing this, Habeeb became even more confused. He then declared, “Fine! I will

not look him in the eye. I will not touch his hand. Nevertheless, allow me to

listen to his words because previous to this, (I have also cured people) by merely

listening to their words.”

In alarm, Abu Jahl then remarked, “O Habeeb! If you do not believe us, ask the

Banu Hashim.”

Some members of the Banu Hashim then declared, “Yes, we know him as the

truthful from a young age. When he reached the age of forty, he started to insult

our gods. He started to propagate a new religion which was not preached by our

elders.”

It was then decided that the Holy Prophet Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam be

brought to them. A pact was also made that when they saw him approaching, no

one would stand up in respect nor would anyone greet him. (This story of not

standing up for “Salaami” is a very ancient story. We now know that they are

merely following the tradition of their elders and the founder of this behaviour

and movement was Abu Jahl himself!)

Nonetheless, as the Holy Prophet Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam approached

them wearing a black turban and a green hat, on his right was Hadrat Sayyiduna

Abu Bakr Siddique Radi Allahu ‘Anhu and behind him, his blessed wife,

Sayyidah Khatijah Radi Allahu ‘Anha, they became so over awed, that all of them

abruptly stood up with respect. The first person to do this was Abu Jahl. (Some

‘Ulama are of the opinion that he was made to stand by the Angels who picked

him up by holding his ear). Even today, some people stand out of respect and

love while others are forced by circumstances. The conversation then began.

Habeeb then asked, “O Muhammad! You are aware that Prophets have

performed miracles. Do you have any miracle?”

The Holy Prophet Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam replied, “What is it that you

wish for?” (In other words, ask whatever you wish for).

Habeeb replied, “My wish is that you first make the sun set and then make the

moon rise. You then break this moon into two pieces and bring these pieces to

earth and then return them to the sky and when it is in the sky, it must glow

again.”

When the Holy Prophet Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam heard this, he displayed

no apprehension at all and calmly asked Habeeb, “If I do this, will you bring faith

of me?”

He replied, “Yes, I will but on condition also that you reveal what is in my heart”.

The Holy Prophet Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam then went to the mount of Abu

Qubais. He performed two rak’ah of Salaah while the disbelievers were all the

time looking at the moon. They did not notice that the face of the person

performing Salaah was even brighter than the moon! The disbelievers were also

convinced that this would never happen. However, the blessed Ashaab were

convinced that besides the moon, even if the Holy Prophet Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi

Wasallam wanted to split the heavens, he could do so.

Suddenly, Jibra’eel Ameen arrived with twelve thousand Angels and after

presenting the Divine Greeting to the Holy Prophet Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi

Wasallam, he also presented the Divine Message of Almighty azza wajal which

was, “O My beloved! Do not fear or feel sad! I am also with you”. (Therefore,

merely indicate with your finger). The Holy Prophet Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi

Wasallam then pointed his finger and the sun immediately set. Then the moon

arose as bright as can be and spread its glow everywhere.

There was no physical strength displayed by the Holy Prophet Sallal Laahu

‘Alayhi Wasallam at this moment. It was merely the pointing of one of his

blessed fingers. Yet, the miracle of this was that something which was thousands

of miles away, began to move with his instruction and not only that, it split into

two halves. If this is the power of his one single blessed finger, what must be the

power of his entire blessed being?

Habeeb, who was watching all of this, suddenly realised that if this person was

able to make the sun set and also break the moon into two pieces, surely this

would be a person to follow if one desires to meet the Divine Creator azza wajal.

While he was thinking of this, hundreds of miles away, his young daughter was

being cured! Her paralysis had been cured and this was the secret which he had

hidden in his heart. In fact, while this miracle was taking place, he declared,

“And my other request?” The Holy Prophet Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi

Wasallam answered, “Yes, yes, your daughter who is completely disabled, my

Creator azza wajal has also cured her as well.”

Habeeb accepts Islam!

After seeing this miracle and hearing the good news about his daughter from the

Holy Prophet Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam, Habeeb turned to the people of

Makkah and declared, “O people of Makkah! There is no disbelief after Imaan.

Remember that I have brought faith on Allah azza wajal and His Prophet Sallal

Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam.”

When Habeeb returned home, he was even more surprised. While he was still

standing at the door, his daughter came to greet him all the while reciting the

Kalimah! Her father asked, “How were you cured and who taught you the

Kalimah?” She replied, “Someone came in my dream and informed me that my

father has brought Imaan on Islam, and therefore if I wanted to be healed of this

paralysis, I should also accept Islam. I then accepted Islam and I was immediately

cured as you are now witnessing.”

The Prophet Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallamwas at two places at one time!

This incident also proves what while the Holy Prophet Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi

Wasallam was performing this miracle in Makkah, at the same time, he was also

making this young girl read the Kalimah hundreds of miles away. This is clear

proof of being “Haazir and Naazir”. (The above description of this miracle was

presented by Imam Hafiz Abu Na’eem Ahmed bin Abdullah Isfahani Alaihir

Rahmah in his “Dalaa ilun Nubuwah.”.

Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mas’ud Radi Allahu ‘Anhu narrates that, “The

moon was split, and I saw the two halves myself.”

Sayyidi A’la Hadrat Imam Ahmed Raza Radi Allahu ‘Anhuquite beautifully puts

this in his words:

 !"#$%&'()

“The sun went opposite, retreating its step while the moon split with a mere

indication

Blind Najdis, look at the power of Rasoolullah Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam”

There are various reports about the background for this miracle. Some report

that this was performed at the request of certain elders of the Quraish who, were

also ardent enemies of Islam. Some reports suggest that it was performed at the

Page 21: !ْﻴ ﻠ ﻋ - .˘ﺼ 0 /نْﺎ ﺑ 23ْٰﺮ ﻳو ﺐ/ﺤ ﻳ ﺎ ﻤﻛ م د* ﺪْﻟو ﺪ+ﻴﺳ

request of certain Jews who wanted to see a miracle performed by the Holy

Prophet Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam.

Some reports suggest that one part of the moon was seen on the top of the mount

of Abu Qubais and the other half was seen on the top of the mount of

Qa’ee’qa’aan. Some reports also suggest that one part was seen in Mina and one

half in Safa. In other words, the disbelievers wanted to see them as far apart as

possible.

Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Abbas Radi Allahu ‘Anhuma narrates that news

reached the Holy Prophet Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam that a few Jews wanted

to see a miracle so that they could accept Islam. He then asked Allah azza wajal to

show them a miracle and this is how the moon was split into two halves. They

also saw one part in Mina and one part in Safa. This moment remained for as

long as the time between Asr and sunset. Everyone saw this and then the moon

set. Thereafter, they began to claim that it was merely magic.

In Surah Qamar, verse 2, Allah azza wajal declares:

حر وا س وا و يقول ض عر وا اية ي ن ير ﴿و ار ستم ﴾۲ م

“And if they see any sign, they turn (away) their faces and say this is perpetual

magic.”

The entire world saw this miracle!

When this miracle occurred, many of the Quraish claimed that this was sheer

magic and refused to believe it. They also began to say that it only occurred in

Makkah and nowhere else. However, when people began to arrive from the

outside, and also claimed to have seen this miracle, suddenly, there was no room

for excuse from the Quraish.

Even a non-conformist like Sulayman Nadwi has reported that recently in certain

ancient Sanskrit material it was found that there is evidence of this miracle being

recorded by people in India at that time. These were astronomers of that period

that recorded the movement of stars and other celestial objects. He also writes

that a person who the leader (Raja) of an area in India called Maala Baar also saw

this miracle with his own eyes.

In reality, there are so many reports about this miracle that it has become difficult

for the enemies of real Islam to actually refute it. Allama Aloosi Alaihir

Rahmah in his “Tafseer Ruhul Ma’ani” states that, “There are numerous reports

about this incident.”

Imam Taajudeen Subki Alaihir Rahmah in his “Sharah Mukhtasar” writes that,

“In my opinion, this incident of the splitting of the moon is absolutely authentic.

In the Qur’an, there is clear testimony. This has been presented in the ‘Sahih

Bukhari’ and ‘Sahih Muslim’ through various sources. Therefore, what doubt

can there be in its authenticity?”

As we have seen, in the “Bukhari Shareef”, this has been reported by Hadrat

Anas Radi Allahu ‘Anhu and by Hadrat Abdullah ibn Abbas Radi Allahu

‘Anhuma. In the “Sahih Muslim” and “Sahih Tirmidhi”, it has been reported by

Hadrat Abdullah ibn ‘Umar Radi Allahu ‘Anhuma. In the “Baihaqi Shareef,” it

has been narrated by Hadrat Abdullah ibn Masud Radi Allahu ‘Anhu and Hadrat

Jubair bin Mut’am Radi Allahu ‘Anhu.

In two hundred Hijri, even a king in Hindustan accepted Islam when he saw proof

of this miracle. (Taarikhe Farishta)

Today, if scientists are going to the moon as they claim, what miracle is this when

the Holy Prophet Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam could call it to earth and even

Page 23: !ْﻴ ﻠ ﻋ - .˘ﺼ 0 /نْﺎ ﺑ 23ْٰﺮ ﻳو ﺐ/ﺤ ﻳ ﺎ ﻤﻛ م د* ﺪْﻟو ﺪ+ﻴﺳ

23

instruct it to obey him! No matter how much science claims as its proof, it will

never go as far as what real Islam can prove. If certain Muslims believe that going

to the moon is a miracle of today, how can they refute the splitting of this moon

hundreds of years ago?

What is science, but an ever- changing thought process! It can never be as stable

as Islam. Years ago, it was said that one should eat a potato and throw the peel

away. Now it is said that one should eat the peel also because it contains certain

important vitamins. We wonder, perhaps in a few years, they could say that we

should throw the potato away and only eat the peel!

Even the trees bowed their heads, at the Message of the Holy Prophet

(swallal lahu alayhi wasallam) and though they had no legs, they walked with

their trunks.

In this Couplet the Miracle of the Holy Prophet (May Allah send peace and

blessings upon him) is mentioned, which was exposed to the people.

In Mawahib and Shifa Sharief Imam Ahmad (May Allah shower mercy upon

him) narrates from Hazrat Abu Sufyaan (May Allah be pleased with him) that

Sayyidina Jibreel (peace be upon him) came to the Holy Prophet (May Allah send

peace and blessings upon him).

The Disbelievers of Makkah had attacked the Holy Prophet (May Allah send

peace and blessings upon him) due to which His Shoes were soaked with blood.

The Holy Prophet (May Allah send peace and blessings upon him) was sad.

Sayyidina Jibreel (peace be upon him) appeared and said: If you require some sign

to appear, it will do so. He replied Yes.

Sayyidina Jibreel (peace be upon him said call that tree which is behind a

watercourse. He called for that tree and it came walking like a human in front

of Him. Sayyidina Jibreel (peace be upon him) said: Now command it, to return

to its place. When he Commanded, the tree, returned to its place. After seeing

this, the Holy Prophet (May Allah send peace and blessings upon him) said: This

is sufficient for me, this is sufficient for me.

In another Tradition as reported by Hazrat Buraida (May Allah be pleased with

him) that once a Bedouin came to the Holy Prophet (May Allah send peace and

blessings upon him) and asked for some proof of His Prophethood. The Holy

Prophet (May Allah send peace and blessings upon him) told him to inform that

tree that the Holy Prophet (May Allah send peace and blessings upon him) was

calling you. The Bedouin went and told the tree, what the Holy Prophet (May

Allah send peace and blessings upon him) had ordered.

It began to shake towards the right, then left, front and back, till it broke its roots.

The tree came and stood in front of the Beloved Prophet (May Allah send peace

and blessings upon him) and began to say As-Salaamu Alayka Ya Rasoolullah!

Then the Bedouin said ask it, to return to its place. The Holy Prophet (May Allah

send peace and blessings upon him) ordered it to return to its place and it

returned and the roots linked up with it.

In another Tradition as reported by Hazrat Jaabir (May Allah be pleased with

him) that once the Beloved Prophet (May Allah send peace and blessings upon

him) had a need to urinate, so he went to the jungle and it was an open place,

without any privacy.

On the corners of the jungle, there were some trees, so he held the branch of one

tree and said: Intiqaadi Maeeya Be Iznillah (Accompany Me through the

Command of Allah). The tree accompanied him and stood next to another tree.

The Holy Prophet (May Allah send peace and blessings upon him)

said: Altahimma alah Be Iznillah (both stand close together), they both stood

next to each other. After relieving himself, He commanded Falta Mata (both the

trees joined to each other). When the Blessed Prophet (May Allah send peace

and blessings upon him) finished, He commanded the trees Intaraqta ilah

Amkaaniha (they both separated and returned to their original places)
