Natural Reserveof Zingaro

The park of Zingaro is located in the heart of

the gulf of Castellamare, with charming

Marine colves and depth full of life.

•The park has an extension of 1600 hectares.

•It is a protected area and owes its name to the event of a group of people who claimed the establishment of the reserve headed by representatives of the WWF, ‘’Italia Nostra’’, league environment and the responsible of the company regional forest Franco Russo.

Mediterranean MaquisThe Mediterranean maquis is the typic bios of Mediterranean locality such as Sardegna, Corsica and Sicily. This type of environment is characterized by warm, dry summers and mild, rainy winters. This greatly affects the vegetation, which is then characterized by low plants, woody, perennial, to solid type structure, that is, with small leaves and adapted to withstand the harsh summer drought.For this reason, the Mediterranean is also called "forest sclerophyllous" (skleros = hard, phyllon = leaf).The total annual rainfall is about 250-500 mm and mostly affects the winter months. In summer, the average monthly temperature is often above 20 ° C and in this biome in winter frost is very rare.

The Plant LifeThe vegetation highlights the hot-arid climate, there are areas of the wildernesses and areas with euphoria, ceracchi and carob.

This park, like others in Sicily, are really important because they represent an uncontaminated and keep alive protected species of animals in danger of extinction to be preserved at any cost.
