• It began in North China, 5th/6th Century CE. • It grew from Mahayana Buddhism.• Started at Shaolin Temple by Bodhidharma

• Philosophy: – Mind fullness- focusing on the present. Your brain

connecting to your body. Like opening your mind for some new ways of thinking. Kung-Fu strengthens your mind and body from your righteousness and your way of life.

• Founding: – Bodhidharma is the founder of the philosophy.

Bodhidharma is the father of Zen Buddhism, he is also was a Indian Buddhist monk who lived in the 5th/ 6th Century CE.

Shaolin Temple

• Founded in the 5th Century• Shaolin refers to Shaoshi Mountain- it is one

of the seven mountain in Songshan Range.• The Shaolin temple teaches martial arts.

• From China, Zen spread south to Vietnam, northeast, to Korea and East to Japan.

• Zen means meditation.• Zen is the peace that comes from being one

with an entity other than yourself.• Zen means living in the present experiencing

reality fully.

Philosophy to today’s world.

• Public education in the United States might want to consider incorporating Zen Buddhism in how they run schools. Not all kids are talented to become computer specialists or investment bankers. Zen education could teach kids to be compassionate, understanding, patient listeners, and well-balanced individuals. It could help students be able to twist and turn in our ever changing world.
