Dr. Bettina Basrani is a tenured Associate Professor andCo-Director of the MSc Program in Endodontics at theUniversity of Toronto Faculty of Dentistry in Toronto,Ontario, Canada. She received her DDS degree fromthe University of Buenos Aires in 1989 and a SpecialtyDiploma in Endodontics and PhD from MaimonidesUniversity in Buenos Aires, Argentina. A long-timeeducator and researcher, Dr. Basrani began herteaching career at the University of Buenos Aires. In2000, she moved to Canada to serve as Chair ofthe Endodontic Program at Dalhousie University inHalifax, Nova Scotia. In 2004, she moved to Toronto,where she has continued her academic and clinicalwork, nurturing two careers in parallel—that ofeducator/researcher and practicing clinician.

Internationally recognized as one of the leadingauthorities in endodontics and as an excellent lecturerwho effectively combines clinical and scientificinformation, Dr. Basrani has received many teachingawards throughout her career and has presentedinternational courses and lectures. She has over 35peer-reviewed scientific publications, textbooks, bookchapters, and abstracts to her credit. Dr. Basrani servesas an Editorial Board Member for the Journalof Endodontics, International Endodontic Journal,ENDO–Endodontic Practice, and CLINICS. She is amember of many endodontics societies around theworld and she also serves on the American Associationof Endodontics special committee to developresearchers.

Dr. Markus Haapasalo, DDS, PhD, Fellow of theRoyal College of Dentists of Canada (Endodontics),received his dental degree from the Faculty ofDentistry at the University of Helsinki, Finland in1978. From 1995 to 2004 he was a Professor ofEndodontics in Oslo, Norway and since 2004 he hasbeen Professor and Chair of the Division ofEndodontics at the University of British Columbia(UBC) in Vancouver, Canada. He is also the Head ofthe Department of Oral Biological & Medical Sciencesat UBC.

Dr. Haapasalo has authored or co-authored150 scientific peer-reviewed articles. He is the
