Shark SurvivorSurvives Second Attack… By a Different Kind of SharkWhen Norbert was arrested for DUI with a breath test result of .159 (twice the legal limit!) he knew he was in for the fight of his life. What he didn’t know was that his previous brush with death would help him survive his second “shark” attack, along with a solid defense mounted by Manny and Adam.

Norbert was driving home from his mother’s 75th birthday party when he was pulled over and put through a DUI investigation. A non-native English speaker, there were parts of the investigation that were difficult for him to understand.

The cops then subjected him to a series of field sobriety exercises. Norbert performed well despite voicing injuries that the cops conveniently ignored. Norbert had two screws in his butt from a shark attack, and also had a titanium rod in his leg. The cops made him do the one-leg stand test anyway, and he stood without wavering for twenty five seconds. They still arrested him and took him down to the station where Norbert then blew a .159 on the breath test.

Despite holes in the case, the prosecutor was gunning for him like a great white and wouldn’t give up, but Manny and Adam were on top of the case with a heated defense.

They combed through the police investigation, video footage, and field sobriety tests and amassed a pile of evidence to present at trial, along with pointed questions for the cops involved.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR REFERRALS!Starting in December 2017, we began donating one pair of shoes to a child in need for every referral received.

Our firm representing at South Florida’s Annual Recovery Dodgeball Tournament in Delray Beach

New Year, New YouStart 2019 off with a clean slate, and more importantly...a clean record For many people a brush with the criminal justice system results in a permanent mark on your record, even if you were never convicted of a crime! That’s because the moment you are arrested you now have a criminal history.

Employers, landlords and other entities can easily see that you’ve been arrested. We’ve had cases where it’s even resulted in evictions against clients whose charges were DROPPED by the prosecution. Is it fair? Not at all. But unfortunately it can happen.

That’s why you need to protect yourself. When you have your record sealed or expunged, your arrest is no longer a public record.

For a limited time only we’re offering a seal or expungement for only $800.

Remember, one mistake shouldn’t have the power to ruin your life.

To see if you qualify for a seal or expungement today, call our office at (754) 999-2499. The call is free, but the impact this could have on your life is priceless.

a beginning.” – T.S. Eliot

At trial they expertly exposed the following evidence in support of Norbert:

The arresting cop was a DUI Task Force Officer, and they got him to admit that his job is to look for DUIs.

The breath technician at the police station admitted that Norbert seemed fine when he arrived at the station. He was not slurring or displaying any visible signs of impairment.

They got the state to admit that there was another DUI task force member on scene while Norbert was undergoing the roadside DUI investigation (which was discovered through body camera footage). This particular task force member is the ONLY one with a portable breathalyzer in his car, the Intoxilyzer 8000, meaning the cops could have given Norbert a breath test on the side of the road but chose not

to. At trial they asked the arresting officer, “Isn’t it true there was a portable breathalyzer that could

have been used on the scene that night?” The officer’s response was, “That’s irrelevant.” Not only was it not irrelevant, but jury members were shaking their heads at the cop’s answer.

When Norbert blew a .159, it had been at least an hour since he was driving. The cops admitted they did not know his BAC level at the time he was driving, which they were legally required to prove.

They had Norbert show his shark bite screws and titanium rod to the jury to prove that he was unable to do some of the field sobriety tests, and yet still successfully completed the one-legged stand test with the rod.

The jury deliberated and returned a not guilty verdict. Norbert had officially survived his second “shark” attack.

WALTER OFFICIALLY COMPLETED THE SPARTAN TRIFECTA!He didn’t let setbacks stop him, so don’t let them stop you either this year.

On 11/1/17 I signed up to run a 3-mile spartan race with 30 obstacles (called the Sprint) and had no idea what I was in for; I just started training. On 2/24/18 I ran my first spartan race and felt unprepared. I wasn’t doing well at the gym, wasn’t eating right and had very low expectations. I ran the race and was surprised at how well I did! It took me 01:16:03, and with that I earned the first piece of my trifecta. I had never been more excited and was now pumped to complete the next two. But then I got into a car accident. It was a setback and my performance suffered, but still I stayed focused on my goal.

I ran the next race on 8/11/18 (an 8-mile 28 obstacle race called the Super) in super harsh conditions and not in the best physical shape, and I finished in 04:00:21. I was extremely disappointed, and beat myself up for my performance. Later I realized that I should be proud because no matter how tough things were, I NEVER GAVE UP and KEPT MOVING FORWARD. I was determined to let my body heal from the accident and train as hard as I possibly could, because the Beast, the final piece of my trifecta was coming. After being cleared by the doctors in October to exercise again, I hit the ground running to prepare for the 14-mile behemoth of a race with 34 obstacles. 12/8/18 will forever go down as one of my best athletic performances in life (so far). I didn’t sleep well, I was hungry, tired and slightly annoyed. But I stayed focused, and as the miles stacked up I realized I was doing surprisingly well! I was feeling invincible, at the end of the race I felt awesome. I got my trifecta medal and completed the race in 04:40:29, so it’s safe to say the Beast got conquered. I didn’t let doubt, or setbacks stop me from achieving my goal, so don’t let them keep you from yours. Anything you want to achieve this year, you’ve got this. Happy 2019! NEW YEAR, NEW MASCOT

IS RHAE EDGING OUT JAG FOR FIRM FAVORITE?We all know how much Adam loves his feline friend, Jag...but now there’s a new firm pet that’s rolled into town. Manny and his wife, Astrid, got a playful, furry puppy named Rhaegar (yes after the character in Game of Thrones!) While he’s still a puppy he’s known as Rhae. And he’s already stolen the hearts of everyone at the firm. He even came to cheer us on in the Annual Recovery Dodgeball Tournament.

Here are a few little known facts about Rhae: He’s a 12 week old sheepadoodle (a cross between an Old English

Sheepdog and a Poodle) Don’t let his size fool you...he’s expected to grow to up to 55lbs! He loves diving into bushes while out on walks, and when not bush

diving you can catch him running after his favorite toy, a green frisbee

Fret not Jag, you’re still everyone’s favorite feline...for now...

E

Jag looking unimpressed with the competition.

Rhae supporting us at the Recovery Dodgeball tournament...okay so maybe he wasn’t paying much attention to the game, but he was still there!
