Nelsiwe, 35 Pretoria, South AfricaNelsiwe is a mother-of-two from South Africa. Her youngest, is a cheeky, energetic toddler who loves to sing and dance. 16-month-old Celokuhle is happy and healthy, despite her mother receiving the shocking news during her pregnancy that she was HIV positive.

Thankfully, mothers2mothers, a project which receives funding from a Comic Relief and British Airways Partnership, has been able to give Nelsiwe the right support. They ensured that she was educated in the best way to keep her baby safe from the virus both before and after she was born.

With the correct nutrition and medication both mother and toddler are thriving and Celokuhle has remained HIV negative. Nelsiwe is now enjoying motherhood and is optimistic for her family’s future.

Cameron, 13 Weymouth, UKThree years ago – with no money and nowhere else to go – Cameron and his dad ended up living in a tiny room in an emergency hostel. The space was cold, damp and noisy, and they shared a bathroom with five other families. Cameron was scared to go to the toilet because the lock on the door was broken. Families in the UK are not supposed to live in emergency accommodation like this for more than six weeks. Cameron and his dad were in the hostel for eight long months before finally moving to a house of their own.

Cameron feels so passionately that no other children should have to go through what he did that he now campaigns for Change it! – a project funded by Sport Relief that works to prevent child homelessness. P

WHAT’S YOUR GAME?

Lunchtime activitiesAerobics, circuit training or yoga are a great way to invigorate the office! Charge everyone a small donation to take part, and if you don’t have an instructor on hand, stream a class online.

Go the distanceWhether it’s a virtual hike from Leeds to Llandudno, or cycling the Tour de France, get everyone exercising and add up their distances to reach a total. Ask supporters to sponsor per mile, with an extra donation if you reach a particular goal.

Office OlympicsMulti-eventing isn’t just for Sport Relief supporter Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill. Why not host your own version with the Office Olympics?

Charge your competitors a fee for each event, whether that’s rubber band archery or synchronised office chair swivelling – just make sure it’s health-and-safety compatible and brings out those competitive instincts!

Being part of this big national effort makes it all the more special.”

In for a penny, in for a pound

You don’t have to choose just one way to get involved with Sport Relief – just ask the team at Coventry Building Society. They walked, cycled, swam, rowed, ping-ponged and bounced their way to raising a mighty £17,000.

Their sporty free-for-all is a brilliant way to give back to their local community. So hundreds of staff step up to the challenge each year, and plenty more generously donate to the company’s cake sales. So whether you’re scoffing a cake or breaking a sweat – why not do it for a brilliant cause?

Morning half marathons

If you and your workmates love a challenge, why not train up together? The SR Group, set their sights on an ambitious fitness target for Sport Relief. They pledged to run a half marathon before work – for five days in a row! They called themselves “The Crazy 5 in FIVE” and started a weekly running club to train up for the challenge. They were overwhelmed with support from their colleagues and clients, who joined in for shorter runs, and fundraised with bake days and auctions. By the end of their marathon week, the company had raised over £22,000 – an incredible result for the team with a dream.

So happy to have been part of the Sport Relief week. Roll on 2020!”

Everyone who took part enjoyed themselves and it made some great memories for the team.”

Cream teas on the Camel Trail

Cornish based company Puckator took on the test of cycling 38 miles along the Camel Trail from Bodmin to Padstow and back. The team split the challenge between more experienced cyclists and those not as confident on two wheels to complete the full route, despite snowy weather.

In a mammoth team effort, everyone made it across the finish line where ice cream and cream teas were consumed (jam first) around a roaring fire. Just as sweet was the team’s amazing combined sponsorship of £585, which was matched by Puckator to bring their fundraising total to £1,170.
