LAUBE - Mrs. Marjorie Laube passed away peacefully on May 3, 2016 at her home on the farm as per her prayer request. Her final prayer was answered. Marjorie Violet Laube (nee Jenkins) was born on March 5, 1924 at the home of her grandparents, Charles and Sarah Merriman in Springside, SK, the second oldest daughter of Florence (nee Merriman) and John Henry Jenkins. Both of her parents immigrated from England. Marjorie received her education and grew up in the Clear Creek area. Marjorie worked in housekeeping for Mrs. Barnes in Yorkton, then worked in Regina and in Trail, BC prior to the war. Marjorie met Herb Laube at a Saturday night town event in Springside. They started courting in the summer of 1942. In November of 1942 Herb Laube got his call to go into the Army, so most of Herb and Marjorie’s romance was courtesy of the Royal Canadian Mail. Herb referred to Marjorie as his Princess. They met
on a Saturday, were engaged on a Saturday and were married on a Saturday, October 14, 1944 in the United Church in Springside, SK. That day was the first day of the rest of their life. Upon Herb’s discharge from the army, they established their home on the Gus Laube farm until the spring of 1953, when they built a new home on a quarter section, one mile east of Springside. Marjorie lived and worked on the farm for 63 years. For Marjorie, family was her priority, her children and family came first. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, embroidery and knitting. It was her mission to make sure that every child and grandchild has a crocheted tablecloth, a drawer full of doilies to add to each of their homes and beautiful afghans for each one. Marjorie loved to cook and bake. There was always dough- nuts, cinnamon buns, chocolate chip cookies, carrot cake, lemon pie and angel food for all to enjoy. But everyone in the family has collectively agreed the infamous Opera Roll takes first place in all of Mom’s creations. Being a farmer’s wife Marjorie’s added chores were milking cows, hauling grain, delivering meals to the fields, planting a huge garden, raising many chickens, mowing and bagging acres of grass each year. Marjorie had a 63 year war on dandelions and sow thistles. They always seemed to grace her property, but not for long. Marjorie and Herb Laube had four children, Vallerie, Wayne, Lovadie and Lyndon, 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her husband Herb (June 2, 2002), Mother, Florence, (1969) and Father, John Henry Jenkins (1934), her brother Kenneth (1970), her sisters Mary (1989) and Amy (2014), her nephews Raymond (1944), Larry (2004) and Garth Collins (2012). She leaves to cherish her memory, daughter Vallerie (John) Doell of Tyndall, MB; son Wayne of Springside; daughter Lovadie and her fiancé Brad of Regina; son Lyndon (partner Melinda Cronin) of Red Water, AB. Grand- children: Corrie Doell (Kelly) of Kelowna, BC, Tracy (Winston) Leask of Blackie, AB, Meghan (Curt) Lavallee of Winnipeg, MB, Heather Laube (friend Blair) of Winnipeg, Nelson Laube (friend Courtney) of Winnipeg, Tyler Derow (friend Kristina) of Regina, Justyn Derow (friend Britney) of Regina, Jayson Derow of Toronto, Chelsea Laube of Edmonton and Wyatt Laube of Redwater, AB; Great-Grandchildren, Jimi Doell from Kelowna and Freya Lavallee from Winnipeg. Sisters-in-law: Doris Jenkins of Saskatoon, Edna Richardson of Yorkton and Ruth (Everett) Alberts of Calgary and many nieces, nephews and dear friends. The Funeral Service was held on Monday, May 9, 2016 at Springside Baptist Church with Pastor Richard Kauenhofen officiating. The Scripture Reading was given by Lyndon Laube. Special Music was offered by Marlon Milbrandt & Jodi Hansen. The organist was Jeanette Kriger and the pianist was Kitty Arndt. Marlon & Jodi sang ‘In the Garden’ and ‘Beyond the Sunset’ and Marlon sang ‘Go Rest High on that Mountain’. The congregational hymn was ‘In the Sweet By & By’. Family Tributes/Remembrances were conveyed by Vallerie Doell (daughter), Heather Laube & Meghan Lavallee (grandchildren) and Karen Duncan & Wendy Gauthier (nieces).The interment was held at Springside Cemetery with Nelson Laube, Curt Lavallee, Tyler Derow, Aaron Alberts, Justyn Derow and Gerard Alberts serving as the casket bearers. Memorials honouring Marjorie’s life may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Heart & Stroke Foundation as gifts of remembrance. KAMINSKY - Rose. With sadness, but a great appreciation of the wonderful life she had, Rose’s family announces the end of her journey in this life with us on Sunday, May 1, 2016. On December 28, 1938 in Calder, SK born to Alex and Ellen Kohut was a baby girl Rozalia. She was the youngest of four siblings. Alex told his 5 year old son, Billy, that Santa brought him this baby for Christmas. Billy very defiantly declared that he didn’t want THAT. So began the life of the poor little baby, unwanted. Rose was baptized in the St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Calder and always considered this her home church. Rose went to Calder School from Grades 1 to 11. She attended Yorkton Collegiate Institute for Grade 12. In 1957, she graduated from Moose Jaw Teacher’s College. Throughout her teaching career she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Bachelor of Education Degree. Rose had taught in
several country/town schools during her career. Most of years of teaching were in Wroxton, Theodore and Springside. She loved teaching. She also was involved with the Superannuated Teachers of Saskatchewan and the Canadian Federation of University Women. On July 17, 1958 Rose married Orest Kaminsky at the St. Elia Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Wroxton. They became members in the Wroxton Church until it had closed. They were blessed with four children; Mervin (met with his Lord 1960), Bob, Donna & Mitchell. In June of 1991, Rose superannuated from a teaching career of 31 years to care for her invalid mother who entered eternity in November 1996 at the age of 96. Her mother had lived with Rose and Orest for 16 years. In July 1976, Rose and Orest moved to Yorkton. In 1982 they became members of Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church. In 1985, Rose joined the Ukrainian Women’s Association of Canada - Olena Pchilka Branch Yorkton. Through the years, Rose taught and directed Sunday School, taught Ukrainian School, served on the Scholarship Committee, Program Committee, audited books and participated in many various other activities. Rose greatly valued the experience of her membership in the Ukrainian Women’s Association, the friends and certainly the fellowships throughout the years. She thanks God for the many good years. Anyone who knew Rose experienced her unconditional acceptance and welcome. She always was thinking of others and showed her kindness and generosity to all that she met. She also had a great sense of humour that many can attest to. Her church, faith and family meant a lot to her. She would always say “I have had a beautiful life. I had a good husband and wonderful children”. She persevered despite what adversity was handed to her. Her memory will be cherished by all that knew her. She will be missed dearly by her children, Bob (Bernice), Donna, Mitchell (Isabella) and her granddaughters Tamara & Emma (“Baba’s Sweetheart”). Her sister-in-law Elsie Kohut, her sister-in- law Marie (Peter) Husak and special nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. A Prayer Service was held on Friday, May 6, 2016 and the Funeral Service on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Yorkton with Very Rev. Father Mel Slashinsky officiating. The responses were led by Yvonne Panchuk & Parish Choir Members. Members of the Ukrainian Women’s Association served in an Honour Guard. The cross bearer was Ron Rogalsky and honourary bearers were Helen Piontek and Pauline Semenuik. The interment followed in the Garden of Gethsemane at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Wade Husak, Terry Husak, Myron Rubletz, Keith Strutynski, Jeret Bode and Bryan Hordenchuk serving as the casket bearers. Memorials honouring Rose’s life may be made to Holy Transfiguration Church, Yorkton or the Canadian Diabetes Association. Condolences to the family can be posted at www.baileysfuneralhome.com.

GNYP - Polly Gnyp, resident of Ituna & District Pioneer Lodge, loving wife of the Late Nick J. Gnyp passed away April 15, 2016. She was 78 years old. Polly was born July 16, 1937 in the district of Togo, SK. Her parents were Mary (Konkin) and Bill Hadican. Polly was the 3rd Child of 4 children. She had two older brothers Mike and Alex and a younger Sister Florence. On November 3, 1954, at the young age of 17, Polly met and married the Love of her life. Tall and handsome Nick J. Gnyp. Polly and Nick made their home on the family farm, homestead, where they continued to farm with his father and mother, John and Mary (Gramak) Gnyp. Polly loved her family farm, there was an abundance of cows, pigs, horses, sheep, goats, chickens as well as dogs and cats. Nick and Polly were also grain farmers. Polly and Nick were united in marriage for 52 years, where they continued to reside on her family homestead until
Nick passed away Nov. 7, 2006. Polly was a loving wife, mother, grand- mother and Homemaker. Polly had a never ending enjoyment and Love of Gardening. She loved gardening with a passion and grew many amazing organic gardens in her lifetime. Polly enjoyed cooking and preparing meals for her family. She was an amazing cook and always had an abundance of fresh vegetables, canning as well as fresh baking on hand. Polly made everything from scratch and homemade. Her homemade breads, cinnamon buns and donuts will never be forgotten. Polly especially loved the holiday seasons, especially Christmas and Easter. The 12 dishes of Christmas and the Christmas and Easter traditions were a huge deal to Polly. Polly and Nick were blessed with 5 children, 4 daughters and a Son. Sonia, Sandra, Adeline, Jeffery and Violette. Sadly Nick and Polly lost their son Jeffery to leukemia on April 6, 1978. Polly and Nick were as well blessed with 18 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and Polly loved them all. After her husband Nick passed away, Polly’s declining health forced her to move off her family farm. For the next 10 years she would spend a lot of time visiting her daughter Adeline and family in Regina, which she said was her time to recuperate and be treated like a princess. She then could enjoy someone else cooking for her and offered her expert advice. We enjoyed her visits, her wonderful sense of humour and her laughter. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren Dylan and Shavry. She would often sit with Dylan when he played the video game Call of Duty and translate what the Russian Characters would be saying. When she wasn’t at my house, she would try her hand at Independent living, with the constant support of her daughter Sandra. Polly lived independently until her declining health forced her into the Ituna & District Pioneer Lodge. Polly continued to grow an amazing garden in the lodges former flower beds. I am sure she offered the cooks her expert advice on cooking. Polly is preceded by her husband, her siblings, her son Jeffery and grandson Darryl, as well as great-grandson Stephen. Her life is celebrated and lovingly remembered by her children, Sonia (Terry) Krakowski of Edmonton, Sandra (Gordon) deVries of Langenburg, Adeline (Anthony) Barteski of Regina, Violette Gnyp of California. As well as 16 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. The funeral service was held on Saturday, May 7, 2016 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre in Yorkton with Crystal Bailey, B.Th. officiating. Tributes were given by daughters Adeline & Sandra and by grandson Ryan. Music played was ‘The Most Beautiful Girl in the World’, ‘A Picture of You’, ‘Missing An Angel’, and ‘This is Not Good-bye’. The graveside hymn was ‘No Tomorrow’. The interment took place in the Garden of Crucifixion with grandson Dylan serving as the urn bearer. Memorials were to the Ituna Pioneer Lodge. BECKER - Ronald Henry Becker passed away suddenly on the family farm Saturday, April 30, 2016. Ronald was born on October 4, 1934 to Ernest and Violet (nee Bennett) on a homestead north of Pelly. The next year the family moved back to Ernest’s family homestead near Stornoway, where Ronald grew up. Ronald worked at many jobs throughout the years, starting out working as a farm hand, moving on to road construction in Alberta for a season. Eventually he took up the trade of carpentry working for his uncle Alfred Becker while earning his Apprenticeship in the trade. He also worked for a time with Logan Stevens Construction in Yorkton. In June of 1959 Ronald married Verna Lackten at Kamsack, SK. The marriage was to become a unique and hard working partnership which was to last for 49 years. In 1960 Ronald and Verna were blessed with twin daughters Charlotte and Cheryl. Unfortunately the
twins were premature and Cheryl did not survive. The couple were once again blessed in 1964 with the arrival of another daughter Sharon. Ronald’s work as a carpenter took him to many of the surrounding communities working on a variety of projects, often taking him away from home. Consequently in 1966 Ronald and Verna made the decision to move back and help out his parents on the family farm. Ronald and Verna spent many happy years working on the farm doing the work they loved. Ronald was well respected in the local farming community, he was a good friend and a good neighbour helping out whenever he could. In his younger days he was actively involved in sports like baseball and curling, later on he become involved in the economic activities of the community by joining various boards and organizations. In his later years Ronald loved to socialize visiting friends and playing cards, whenever he could and became a staunch member of “coffee row”. Ronald was a true outdoorsman and when hunting season arrived and chores allowed, you could be sure to find him out “pushing bush”. Ronald was also somewhat of a lumberjack and loved to “put up wood” for the winter season, as he heated his house with wood and had one of the few wood cook stoves still being actively used in the community. Ronald was a great family man and was extremely proud to learn that he was soon to be a great-grandfather to a daughter of his grandson Kyle, due later this year. Unfortunately in 2009 Ronald’s life was forever changed with the passing of his wife Verna. Determined to continue to farm, he now also had to learn to cook, clean and do laundry. He took it all in stride and continued to live and work on the farm until his passing. Ronald was pre-deceased by this wife Verna (March, 2009); an infant daughter Cheryl (June, 1960); parents Ernest (Oct., 1997) and Violet (Sept., 2005); a brother Grant (July, 1979) and sisters Elizabeth (January, 1990) and Gladys (Dec., 2009). As well as several brothers-in- law and sisters-in-law and nephews. Ronald will be forever missed by Daughters Charlotte (Cliff) MacKay of Lloydminster and Sharon (Wesley) Hiebert of Kamsack. Grandson Kyle (Mikahla) MacKay of Lloydminster and Granddaughter Melissa MacKay of Islay, AB. Three brothers: Richard of Springside, Harold (Donna) of Medicine Hat, AB and Henry (Pat) of Kamloops, BC and one sister, Audrey (Bob) Schattenkirk of Yorkton as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends. The funeral service was held on Thursday, May 5, 2016 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Rev. Deborah Smith of Westview United Church officiating. The eulogy was given by Gerald Buenneke. The processional hymn was ‘Amazing Grace’ and the recessional hymn was ‘Church in the Wildwood’. The interment took place in the Garden of St.. Matthew with grandson Kyle MacKay serving as the urn bearer. Condolences can be left at baileysfuneralhome.com. Memorials were to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to one’s Charity of Choice.

FENUIK - Mrs. Ann Fenuik of Yorkton entered eternal rest on Monday, May 2, 2016 at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina at the age of 92 years. Ann was born on February 12, 1924 in the Rhein District, a daughter of Nick and Aksana (nee Andrychuk) Babuik. On June 10, 1943 Ann was united in marriage to John Fenuik. The couple made their home in the Gorlitz district where they farmed and raised their two children, Rodney and Janet. Ann worked tire- lessly alongside with her husband in all aspects of the farm. These included raising chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys and most of all pigs. In addition they milked 20 cows. Due to health reasons they retired early from the farm. Ann then turned her career to cooking for construction crews. These included C.N.R., Dept. of Highways and the Churchill Forest Industry. While living in the Gorlitz area Ann and John were faithful parishioners of St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian
Orthodox Church in Gorlitz and Ann was instrumental in organizing the Ukrainian Women’s Association, Lesia Ukraina Branch, serving as secretary for five years. They also were members of St. Michaels Parish, south of Veregin. Following John’s passing in 1976 Ann moved to Yorkton. Here she became a cook at the Ukrainian Orthodox Auditorium and became very active in her Church. She was a member of the Ukrainian Women’s Association, Olena Pchilka Branch, serving on various executive positions. She cooked at the Trident Youth Camp for one summer. She assisted in the preparing and shipping of clothes for the needy in Ukraine and Brazil. In Church, Ann served as an elder sister, baked communion bread for Liturgies and also cross-stitched a set of vestments for the parish priest as well as a Church Banner. She will be remembered for the countless hours she spent preparing for activities in the Church and Auditorium. Her handi-work included crocheting and quilting and her master- pieces were shared with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and raffles at the Auditorium. Besides her parents and husband John, Ann was predeceased by her daughter Janet in 1997, son Rodney in 1999, grand- son Aaron in 1998; sisters Agnes Bodnaryk and Mary Tysowski and brothers Nick and Steve Babuik. She leaves to cherish her memory daughter-in-law Theresa Fenuik, grandson Trevor Fenuik, granddaughter Tessa Fenuik; great-grandchildren, Kody Fenuik, Hailey Fenuik, Noah Lorence, Brianna Lorence and Alexander Lorence. A Prayer Service was held on Sunday, May 8, 2016 and the Funeral Service on Monday, May 9, 2016 at Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Yorkton with Very Rev. Father Mel Slashinsky officiating. The responses were led by Yvonne & Parish Choir Members. Members of the Ukrainian Women’s Association participated in a Honour Guard. The cross bearer was Tessa Fenuik and the banner bearers were Brianna Lorence and Hailey Fenuik. Serving as honourary bearer was Noah Lorence. The Interment took place in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Trevor Fenuik, Alexander Lorence, Kody Fenuik, Douglas Hull, Ernie Anuik and Chris Woloschuk serving as the casket bearers. KIEPER - Willis. After a long life, well lived, (John) Willis Kieper, late of Russell, MB died peacefully on April 27, 2016, six weeks and two days shy of his 100th birthday at the Assiniboine Centre in Brandon. Willis was predeceased by his beloved wife Lorena (Tony) nee Adolphe in 1983, his great-grandson Brady in 1991, parents and brothers: Tom, Ross, & Alex and step-son Don Thickett. He is survived by his second wife Verna (Evans), son Jim (Brian Spilak), daughters Judy (Kelly Caughlin), Jan (Ron Payne), daughter-in-law Rose Kieper, step-daughters Gail Thickett and Joyce Evans (Tim Lee) and sole surviving brother Bill Kieper. His legacy continues with his grandchildren Tom & Cindy Kieper, Teresa & Curtis Boucher, Richard & Tracy Kieper, Sue Caughlin & Lance McKinley, Mark Caughlin & Kendra Gaede, Paul & Diana Steiner, Josh Payne & Susan Ewasko, Brett Payne, Douglas & Daniella Thickett, Kim Thickett &
Rod Marks and great-grandchildren Ashton, Wyatt, Lane, Luke, Carter, Matthew, Alexander, Tyler, Jenna & Brianna. Willis was born June 10, 1916, the fourth of five sons, on the family farm located in the Minniska District to parents Julius & Lettie Kieper. He had little formal education, leaving school in the eighth grade, but became a life long learner in attitude and practice. While in his teens, Willis developed a successful mink fur business with his brother Alex as a sideline to the family farm, until the late ‘30’s. He took over his father’s farm in 1940 and in 1941 married Lorena Adolphe of Russell. In the early 1950s he began developing a purebred registered Hereford herd and by 1963 Willis and son Jim formed a farm partnership under the name of Half Diamond K Ranch. Over the years they earned first place ribbons and Grand Champions at winter fairs and cattle shows. A pinnacle in 1973 saw Half Diamond K take the cham- pionship in every category of Hereford bulls at the Brandon Winter Fair. Willis was Named to the Canadian Hereford Association Honour roll in 1984. Willis was involved in many farm organizations serving as a director of the Manitoba Beef Grower’s Association and the Manitoba Cattle Producer’s Assoc. He was Manitoba Director for the Canadian Hereford Association and then its president in 1972. While president and head of the Canadian delegation, he and Tony travelled to England and then South Africa to attend the World Hereford Conference. Their grandchildren enjoyed many years of Grandma Tony’s slide shows from that journey featuring English countryside, city of London and their safari in South Africa. Willis joined the Masonic Order in 1960 served as Master of the Russell Masonic Lodge in 1967 and past District Deputy Grand Master of Fifth Masonic District. He was a lifelong member of the United Church first in Minniska, then Russell Knox United and Trinity United in Brandon the last three years. Willis married Verna Evans and they moved to the town of Russell in 1987. They resided there until August of 2012 when they moved to Victoria Landing Assisted Living in Brandon. A celebration of his life was held at the Knox United Church, Russell, MB at 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 2, 2016 with Rev David Howell officiating. Interment followed in the Russell Memorial Gardens. BISCHOP - Sylvia May Bischop (Bartlett) passed away on May 6, 2016. Sylvia was born on January 7, 1925 on a farm near Rokeby, SK. In 1926 the Bartlett family moved to the Digby farm in the Anemone district northeast of Yorkton. Sylvia attended Anemone School and then the Yorkton Collegiate Institute. Sylvia worked on the family farm after her schooling. One of her jobs was milking the cows with her father selling the cream in Yorkton weekly. Sylvia met Russell Bischop when he came to work on the family farm. They were married on May 15, 1943. In 1946 Russell and Sylvia moved Ω mile south of the Bartlett farm and together built their own home and farm. Sylvia and Russell worked together on their cattle and grain farm typical of the time. Sylvia was very proud of her large garden and worked long hours to can or freeze vegetables to keep her families needs met. There was never a spare moment. There
were cattle, horses, chickens, ducks, turkeys, eggs to pick, cows to milk, butter to make and the associated chores to do. Sylvia also kept bees. She spent many, many hot days and nights working with her bees and taking off the honey. This was her so called “down time”, as her family didn’t bother her when she worked with the bees. Sylvia was passionate about her faith and was a member of Holy Trinity Anglican Church. She was a very active member of the choir and the ACW until her health failed her. She also was a member of the Tonkin Curling Club and an avid curler. She worked tirelessly at the Yorkton Exhibition every July, going in at about 6 a.m. to peel onions to fry for the Tonkin Curling Club booth. Sylvia was also a Canadian Cancer volunteer and enjoyed visiting all of her neighbours each spring as she made the rounds for donations. Russell and Sylvia had a cottage at Good Spirit Lake which brought the family and extended family together for many great visits. Sylvia was especially fond of the visits with her grandchildren. Sylvia was predeceased by her parents Henry Thomas (Tom) and May (nee Bugler) Bartlett, brothers Henry and Robert and sisters Catherine (Kit) Kyle and Harriet Annie (Nancy) Kyle. Sylvia is lovingly remembered by her four boys: Stanley (Susan Anderson), Bruce (Gail), Clarence (Pat) and Donald (Lorie). She also had six grandchildren: Trevor (Catherine) Bischop (and their children Tyler and Jordan), Heather (Nakeet) Aggarwal (and their son Dhillan), Janis (Richard) Rogowski (and their children Ava and Nyla), Steven Bischop, Karen Bischop (Damyon Sim) and Ginette Bischop. She is survived by sisters-in-law Marlene Bartlett, Mildred Bartlett, Phyllis Herman and Doreen Teron. A service celebrating the life of Sylvia and Russell (who passed away February 10, 2016) will be held at a later date. EVANS - Marion Ruth Evans. May 23, 1929 - April 19, 2016. With family at her side, Marion passed away peacefully at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon after a sudden and brief illness. During her hospital stay Marion was surrounded by family members she deeply loved and devoted her life to. While living in Yorkton, Marion was predeceased by her husband Nick in 2002. Left to remember her are her loving son Larry (Beth), cherished grandchildren: Jason Evans (Patty Ogilvie-Evans), their children Taliah, Lucas, Tanner Ogilvie and Bailey Ogilvie; Michael Evans (Kerry Green) and their daughters Signe and Solveig; Lisa Evans (Lyndon Hicks). Marion is also survived by brothers Harold Gerla, William Gerla (Caroline) and sister Judi Moroz (Peter), loving cousin Olga Kaye, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, the remaining “Golden Girls” and other lifelong friends in Yorkton, Flaxcombe and Manitoba. The eldest
of four children, Marion was born to William and Eva Gerla and her early years were spent on the family farm prior to relocating to Theodore, SK. She went on to Teachers College in Saskatoon leading to a lengthy profession teaching elementary school, a career similarly followed by her siblings. After their marriage in 1950, Marion and Nick’s life took them to Alonsa, MB, where their son Larry was born and to Flaxcombe, SK before finally returning to their “home” in Yorkton, where upon retirement her close friendships continued with “her esteemed Golden Girls”. Marion’s early retired years were filled with the joy of her three grandchildren, as well as years of travel including annual Caribbean cruises with Holland America. Throughout her life Marion also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, curling, gardening, cooking, reading, painting, playing cards, bowling, travelling and camping. Following Nick’s passing, Marion moved to the Sierras of Erindale in Saskatoon where she enjoyed Persephone Theatre, bowling and playing cards. Recent years were filled with the joy brought by her four cherished great-grandchildren. Marion was blessed with good health and was able to live independently until April 2015 when she moved to assisted living at Preston Park II. While small in stature, her heart was huge, her laugh unforgettable. She will be lovingly remembered as Marion, sister, auntie, Mom, Little Grandma and GG. The family thanks the staff of Preston Park II for their care and support of Marion in the past year, as well as the Emergency Ward staff of Royal University Hospital for their attention and compassion. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at Saskatoon Funeral Home beginning at 1:30 pm. Private family interment will take place at a later date. BUZINSKI - With family by her side, Sylvia Buzinski passed away on Monday, May 1, 2016 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre, Brandon, MB. Born February 10, 1946 in Theodore, SK, Sylvia was raised on the farm in Insinger, SK, received her schooling, met and married Carl Buzinski before moving to Sheho. Together they were blessed with three children. Carl passed away in 1976 and a few years later Sylvia moved to Yorkton and started working in the kitchen at the Holiday Inn, until her retirement. Due to poor health, Sylvia moved to Brandon to be closer to her daughter. In her younger years, Sylvia liked to curl. She also enjoyed playing bingo, gardening, cooking - especially Ukrainian food and going out for coffee. She loved animals and watching Chariot and Chuckwagon races. Remaining to cherish Sylvia’s memory are her three children; Dale, Diane (Rod) and Sherry (Darrell); her one and only
grandson Travis and recently great-granddaughter Sylvie (named after her); as well as sisters Shirley and Grace. She was predeceased by her husband Carl, parents, brother Eddie and all of her in-laws. The Graveside Service took place on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at the Yorkton City Cemetery, Yorkton, SK, with Very Rev. Mel Slashinsky officiating. Pall bearers were Dale Buzinski, Darrell Boghean, Travis Buzinski and Donald Shuparski. JEWELL - Merl Jean (nee Langrill) October 16, 1916 - May 3, 2016 ~ Nurtured by her faith, Merl lived a life of joy, grace and gratitude, enhanced with a sense of humour, which carried her through life’s triumphs and adversities. Passed peacefully at Ross Memorial Hospital, Lindsay, after a recent stroke, in her 100th year. Born in Yorkton, SK during the Great War to Clarence Garfield Langrill & Mary Elizabeth Rennie Langrill (MERL). Older sister to Wilma (Harold Wilkinson), they enjoyed a happy childhood on the prairies. After a short stint working in Winnipeg for the war effort, Merl married RCAF flying officer Jack Jewell in Yorkton (1944). Their early life together took them to Windsor, Hamilton, Woodstock, Kitchener, Renfrew & Lindsay, making life- long friends wherever they went. Imbued with the western spirit of friendliness and hospitality, Merl was always the cheerful hostess in her home, community and church.
She instilled a strong devotion to family in her three children, Ross, Rhonda (Carl Turner) and Ronald (Margot) and was the center of a treasured tradition of an annual family celebration together with her 4 grandchildren and later 4 great-grandchildren. All will miss her warm smile, big hugs and animated political commentary. We celebrated her life in a Service of Thanksgiving at Cambridge Street United Church, 61 Cambridge Street North, Lindsay on Friday, May 6 at 10:30 am. WESTERHAUG - Barrie Wayne. Barrie passed peacefully from this life after a very short decline in health the morning of April 24, 2016. He was surrounded and supported by his loving family. Barrie was born January 22, 1949. He resided in and around Yorkton until 1988, when he moved to Edmonton with his family. He is survived by his loving wife Marian of 46 years, two children, Korwyn (Theressa) Westerhaug and Koreen Hood (Glen); six grandchildren, Stephanie (Mike) Jusza, Jessica (Chris) Palomo, Christina (Chris) Tremblay, Austin Hood, Tyler Hood, Kameron Westerhaug; five great-grandchildren, Landon, James-Lucas, Mialee Palomo, Jacob & Noah Jusza. Also survived by brother Carl (Annetta) Westerhaug. Sister-in-law, Drue Bort & Sophie Westerhaug and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Service was held at Church at South Edmonton on April 30, 2016. A very special thank you to all who attended and to everyone for all their love and support.
