    The Seven Chakras

    By ~Gurudevi Ma,

    Satguru Shri Mahashaktiananda

    Understanding the Seven Chakras

The purpose is to search for the whole truth within, so that one may realize one 's inner

self, unfolding the basic reality of the universe.

Shaktiananda Yogic Philosophy recognizes seven energy centers in the human body. These are known as 'chakras'. Chakra means "what revolves" and hence signifies a wheel.

In a physical sense the chakras are visualized as lotuses, composed of different number ofpetals. Each chakra governs a certain sense organ, and has its own presiding deity.

A Tantra text says: "He who realizes the truth of the body can then come to know thetruth of the universe'.

The two most important concepts associated with the human body are the chakras and

    Kundalini.

In addition to helping realize the abstract conceptions of Tantra in visual terms, they

reveal to the spiritual seeker the deepest truths of Tantric philosophy through metaphorsand symbols.

Healing the Chakras with Seed Sounds

    Vocal Hearing Method

Vocal Healing is a method of opening the seven chakras with deep breathing techniques

and toning. Chakra is the Sanskrit word for moving wheel - the chakras are like spinningenergy centres along the spinal column through which our "life-force" manifests. These

centres can be damaged or blocked through stress or inner conflict depending on thephysical, emotional, mental and spiritual activity in your life.

Vocal Healing is a simple method which can be integrated into the well-being of our

daily lives through breath and vowel sounds. This is not a specialized activity for the

enlightened few, it is a very accessible method for anyone wanting to expand the amountof energy that is available to them. In tuning in to subtle energies through your voice, you

will discover a deep sense of well-being and relaxation as you become more familiar with

the effects of opening up your chakras. (Repeat each breathing exercise 4 times and each

    sound 3 times.)

    Chakra Exercises

Sink your energy down through your feet like spiral roots, deep down into the earth untilyou can imagine the molten fiery core burning as a primal energy source. Breathe in a

stream of fire, up through your roots, into your feet, up your legs into your root chakra.

As you breathe in through a small opening in your mouth for 8, pull in your root chakramuscles, hold the breath for 4 while holding the muscles tight, then breathe out through

the mouth for 8, releasing the muscles.
