Organ donation is a proven method of saving lives, if more people were educated and knew more about it thousands of lives could be saved.

Unfortunately this is not the case and many people are still not willing to donate their bodies for the good of other people. In the united states alone there are 81,000 people waiting to receive an organ and about 6,000 of those people die per year from the shortage. 7

If you or a loved one was sick and needed a organ to live you would want someone to help you, just like someone would want your help if their life depended on it. 8

Organs can be revived sometime after a half hour has gone by, but recovery of all of them is not possible. Death today is perceived by most as the moment your brain can no longer function. Donation of the heart and liver are not possible if its your heart that shuts down. These two vital organs can only be taken from a donor if they are kept alive through a respirator machine.

There are many misconceptions about donation and what is involved. It is believed by some minorities that doctors will not try to revive them the way that they would a Caucasian patient, because of racial tension. 12

Where you live can also be an influence in your decision towards the topic, and can also lead to illegal sales of organs on the black market. 13

It is argued by many that people should be allowed to sell their organs for money, but as of now it is illegal but still goes on in the black market. Organs can sell for up to $10,000 which to some people is necessary for the basics like food water and pay the bills. The market of selling organs brings in millions of dollars per year. 14

Some states are now making it a priority to respond immediately after a call is placed into 911, these new measures have helped to increase the number of available willing donors. This policy of immediate response plays into the Presumed Consent policy. 15
Not A DonorThe presumed consent policy states that everyone is a donor unless prior to death you state that you do not what to be with proper documentation. Even with this documentation family members are able to go against your wishes. 16
Usually a doctor will still get permission from the family even if the deceased was registered as a donor because they could still face a lawsuit. 17

The house offers these people a nice place to stay and recover from there procedure. There are things that you can do to volunteer within the house like go in a cook a meal for the people staying there.

The walk was on April 17 in the city, all together the foundation raised $50,000 with 325 teams and 7,000 participants. My team alone Wings For Walt raised about $2,000 for the foundation. This project was in memory of my Uncle Walt who passed away this past summer. He received a lung that gave him 5 more years of life. In these 5 years he became the grandfather of twin girls and the great-grandfathers of two baby boys. 23
Family and friends came to my walk, not everyone that gave money could make it. The reason that I chose to do my project on organ donation is because it is something very close to my family. My uncle Walt was at times a father figure to my mom so when we lost him, she as well as his three sons lost a parent. 24
My cousin Chad whos Walts middle child came up with the design for the shirt, but I came up with the name. The story behind it is that right after my Uncle passed away this past summer there always was a butterfly somewhere around.
These girls are four of my best friends who all met my uncle before he passed away. 26
I feel the the need for awareness of donation is something that needs to be talked about because it could touch the life of someone you personally know. The 27
I can remember the day my mom got the phone call from my aunt saying that the doctors found a match. The donor was a young boy about my age who was killed in a car accident a few days before. Although its a tragedy that a young life was taken it was a blessing that he 28
I was actually really surprised at how many people were there. I didnt know that this was such a well known cause. 29

I believe that organ donation is a great thing and my family and I are all registered to be donors because we got to see first hand how it can change a persons life and turn it completely around. 36
My family hopes to make this an annual event for us now and work to raise even more money in the years to come and to have even more people participate in the walk with us. 37Pruitt, Sharon. Have a Heart Desaturated . 2007. Flickr. Web. 3 Ma
