Hurricanes Cheerleading Sleepover

Last weekend, the Hurricanes had their annual Cheerleading Sleepover in the Paul Rafter Centre. The event gave the team members a chance to improve their stunting skills and work towards completing their routine for their first competition in August. It was also an opportunity to build close bonds with fellow team-mates in different year groups through team games and fun activities throughout the sleepover. The students spent 6.5 hours training with their Cheerleading Coach, Meg Rudman, who is a Level 4 Cheerleading Athlete from CA Flyers. Meg has been training the team since their inception in 2015. All the students put in a consistent effort and the team has definitely moved closer to improving their competition routine. The team would like to thank Coach Meg Rudman, and teachers Miss Billam and Mrs Mungall, for assisting with the evening. Out of School Learning and Training Program Student Feedback

Workplace Learning Program Hairplay Unisex Hair Salon, Mindarie I have attended workplace learning for the past term. I have learnt a lot and feel more comfortable talking to people and asking for jobs to do around the salon. Towards the end of the placement I didn't need to ask for instructions unless I finished all my jobs. At Hairplay I learnt how to mix and make new hair colours, how to wash and dry hair, and observed how to cut hair in different ways. This was a good experience for me and has allowed me to consider other possible pathways ~ Chelsea Sanders, Year 11.

WA Waterwise Landscaping, Clarkson While attending the workplace, I was able to develop my communication skills and understand different work styles. Working with Mirek has been enjoyable. I learned how to work with other employees and how to communicate with customers. The WPL program has helped me to learn more about the workplace, in this particular industry ~ Jack Schwerdt, Year 11. Glamour Groove Hair Studio, Butler My experience doing Workplace Learning at Glamour Groove Hair Studio was very positive because it was a very comfortable and caring work environment. I enjoyed learning new skills such as how to treat and wash different types of hair, and how to put foils in. I enjoyed listening to people’s stories and getting to know them. Workplace Learning has made me more confident speaking to clients ~ Megan Little, Year 11. Nissan, Clarkson My experience at the Nissan showroom in Clarkson was very good. I learnt multiple administrative skills as a possible future career. I completed tasks such as filing, sending emails, dealing with customer codes and inputting them into a database to simplify the tasks of others, using new technology to stamp envelopes and print. I faced challenges such as talking to people in a different environment and learning how to operate the programs used to file each car in the showroom. The experience was enjoyable and educational. I am now aware of the tasks that have to be completed in this role. My next placement is working at a Childcare Centre ~ Nerize Lew, Year 11.

Training Programs

Certificate II in Salon Assistance (Hairdressing), NM TAFE, Balga (Onsite) I attended North Metropolitan TAFE and it has been a great experience so far. I have made many friends who share the same interests. I have made a huge improvement talking to people which has developed my communication skills when interacting with others. I thoroughly enjoyed my work placement at Bella May Hair Design and am enjoying attending TAFE for further work experience with the apprentice students. I enjoy interacting with different people from various parts of the world. I’ve learned a lot in the past year, especially developing my interpersonal skills ~ Chloe Whitby, Year 11. Industry Ready Make-up Course, Artists @ Play (Fee for Service) I am studying the Industry Ready Make-up Certificate at Artists at Play. I learn a variety of application techniques, studying the different trends and styles of make-up. Being able to do this has been wonderful and has been filled with positive experiences. This course has motivated me to continue with my passion for make-up. The program has enabled me to study my interest whilst still attending school ~ Sheridan Wessling, Year 11.
