MusicWe will explore rhythm, pulse and pitch and listen carefully to detect the instruments which are used to produce the music.

MathematicsWe will work on understanding of number and place value to develop written calculation methods.We will apply understanding of number in problem solving activities.There will be a focus on mental maths skills and rapid recall of the multiplication tables.

ReadingWe will read: Kensuke’s Kingdom and Alice in Wonderland and we will discuss and evaluate how authors use language, including figurative language .We will consider how the choice of language has an impact on us as the reader.We will discuss and read aloud a range of poetry and gain confidence in appreciating poetry.

GrammarWe will concentrate on using a wider range of conjunctions to create complex sentences. We will explore the use of expanded noun phrases to convey complicated information concisely. We will focus on the use of powerful verbs and accurate use of adverbs.

HistoryWe will investigate whether the Vikings were always vicious and victorious and find out about their daily life, where they came from and where they invaded and settled. We will learn about King Alfred and the impact which he had on Britain.

Speaking & Listening

We will use our communication skills success criteria for discussion and dialogue to enhance contribution and listening in debates.We will recite poetry.We will perform ‘Mr. Humbug sees the light.’

Design Technology

To be taught later in the academic year.

ComputingWe will enhance computer skills through programming and controlling, using a range of hardware and soft ware.

GeographyWe will find out about how coastlines are formed, about the process of erosion and different strategies of coastal management.We will have a particular focus on a local study and investigate the question:How is the eroding coastline at Formby affecting people, vegetation and the environment?

Art & DesignWe will explore the art of colour by looking at tints and shades, tertiary colours, neutrals, complementary and harmonious colours. We will use this knowledge to recreate a painting by Paul Klee.

ScienceWe will be investigating the process of evolution and inheritance. We will also be studying living things including humans with particular focus on :The human respiratory system, animal and human digestive systems, overall well-being of the human body.
