Delivering lattice-free images with exceptional contrast and brightness, it comes as no surprise that reviews herald the XEED installation range as one of the best on the market.

The XEED installation range presents the perfect fit for environments that demand exceptional quality at an affordable price. Historically, LCOS projectors have had two drawbacks - poor contrast and low brightness, but Canon’s unique AISYS technology (found in all XEED projectors) overcomes this.

Canon AISYS technology consists of a sophisticated optical array including a specially designed Polarisation Beam Splitter (PBS) that splits light into separate vertical and horizontal components.

The result of this powerful combination is dramatically increased brightness from reduced light leakage and rich, deep blacks from enhanced contrast.

No risk of unwanted effects

The XEED installation range provides the ideal solution for stunning images without the unwanted ‘lattice’ or ‘rainbow’ effects that can be visible in LCD and DLP projectors.

A bright future Crystal clear image reproduction

Combining AISYS technology with the very best characteristics from LCD and DLP projectors, Canon’s XEED installation range is setting the new standard for quality.

Every XEED installation projector has three LCOS panels, one for each primary colour. Featuring a layer of liquid crystal over a reflective mirror substrate, the drive circuitry is located on the back of the panel. For this reason, LCOS panels deliver seamless images, without the unwanted ‘lattice’ effect frequently encountered with LCD models. With no need for a colour wheel, images are also free from the ‘rainbow’ effect that often degrades images produced by single-chip DLP projectors.

Even in environments where there is a high level of ambient lighting, projections remain powerfully authentic with exceptional colour gradation. Primary colours are every bit as bright as the white and deep blacks provide real depth to images.

Canon has a heritage of over 70 years in creating lenses that are renowned the world over for their quality, durability and outstanding results.

Utilising technology first developed for Canon’s range of photographic products, the XEED installation range offers customers a choice of four high-quality, interchangeable lenses that allow the power of the advanced technology to shine though.

Ultra-low Dispersion (UD) lens elements and ‘Super Spectra’ lens coatings eliminate flare and ghosting to provide sharp, high-contrast images with reduced chromatic aberration from corner to corner.

The standard lens features a motorised 1.5x zoom mechanism, enabling flexible projector placement. A long-focus zoom lens is available for bigger spaces and an ultra-wide fixed lens offers the option of rear projection. An ultra-long throw zoom lens is the latest arrival in the line-up, designed to maximise throw distances, making it the ideal choice for projection in large venues. With the standard lens, a throw distance anywhere between 1.3m and 29.0m is possible. With powered focus, zoom and lens shift via the control panel or the remote handset, the XEED installation range ensures bright, large images.

The XEED installation range is designed to meet the needs of different customers across many business sectors and industries. The 3D Look-up Table (LUT) function on each XEED projector takes the custom-tailoring potential a step further.

With a dramatic increase in the number of setting points, precise colour adjustment is possible. By controlling brightness in addition to hue and saturation, the result is improved colour reproduction and rich colour gradation.

For ease, the projector can even store the settings when switched off, so that it is always ready for similar applications in the same environment on future occasions.

Precise calibration Optimising images to human visual perception, the DICOM 14 standard guarantees a level of imaging accuracy in digital radiology.

DICOM simulation comes as standard on all XEED Medical models. The DICOM SIM mode features 21 different levels of greyscale reproduction based on varying combinations of luminance and contrast. The result is a flexible solution that can be used in various ambient lighting conditions. In addition, a range of DICOM presets available makes it far easier to accurately match twin screens when required.

Fast installation by just one person

The motorised lens shift found on all XEED installation projectors assists with ease of installation. Without this, installation would normally require two people. Previously found only on higher priced models, the vertical shift can be varied between -15% to +55% of image height, while horizontal shift can be adjusted between ±10% of image width, except when using the wide fixed-focus lens.

Time-saving servicing

The XEED Installation range has a modular design for easy servicing. Lamp and filter changes can be carried out without the need to uninstall or dismantle the projector, cutting service time dramatically.

Easy installation and maintenance

Designed for performance, the motorised lens shift shortens total installation time and the lamp and air filter can be replaced without removal of the projector.

Real brightness

The lower the number, the less flare there is. We projected an image at the centre of a screen using a standard lens at wide angle. The amountof vertical and horizontal blurring of the pixels was measured and photographed.

The WUX4000 produced the lowest result, outperforming the competition.

To highlight the superior brightness of the XEED models, we used a 100" 16:10 screen and took measurements at the screen centre using a range of lenses and a throw distance of between two and ten metres. The WUX4000 achieved 82.6% brightness, even when zooming, equal to 7% greater than the nearest competitor model.

Irrespective of the type of lens selected, loss in brightness across the zoom range was minimal, when compared to competitor products.

When testing brightness, the aim is to have the smallest difference between white peaks and RGB peaks. We tested the superior performance of the XEED model by taking an average measurement at nine points on the screen. For the white test, we projected white over 100% of the screen: shown as white peaks. For the colour test, we projected red, green and blue in a chequerboard pattern.

The XEED WUX4000 demonstrated a performance level of 100% between white brightness peaks and R, G, B brightness peaks.

Colour match accuracy Delta-E is the industry standard measurement that indicates the degree of matching between two colours. A perfect colour match has a Delta-E of zero. The lower the number, the more accurate the colour match is.

When comparing the Delta E measurement, the XEED WUX4000 projector beat all other competitor products.

Clear, crisp quality from corner to corner To test the effect of field curvature, we put an image in focus in the centre of the screen using a standard lens at wide angle and measured the distance to where the image edges started to blur. The WUX4000 showed the lowest field curvature, compared with the other four models.

The projected image was crisp and clear both in the centre and in all four corners of the screen.
