COMING UPThe #20 Buffaloes of West Texas A&M continue their Lone Star Conference road trip on Thursday night as they head down Highway 60 for a rivalry matchup with the Greyhounds of Eastern New Mexico with tipoff set for 8:30 p.m. CT in Portales.

- SCOUTING THE OPPONENTEASTERN NEW MEXICOEastern New Mexico is led by first year head coach Tres Segler who came to Portales after seven seasons as the assistant at Midwestern State when the Mustangs advanced to three straight Elite Eights and made seven NCAA Postseason appearances. The Greyhounds enter the weekend with an overall record of 7-12 with a 1-8 mark in Lone Star Conference play following road losses to Texas A&M-Kingsville and Angelo State this past weekend. ENMU is 2-5 inside of Greyhound Are-na this season with four of those losses coming in LSC play (Texas A&M-Commerce, Tarleton State, Cameron, Midwestern State). ENMU is led offensively by CoRnell Neal who has gone 70-of-156 from the floor including 21-of-52 from deep to average 14.5 points per game followed by Marquise Harris (14.2) and Joe Clark (10.9) in double-figures. The Greyhounds have gone 501-of-1197 (41.9%) from the field this season including 129-of-387 (33.3%) from deep and 318-of-519 (61.3%) from the charity stripe to go along with 39.3 (+0.1) rebounds per contest and 76.3 (-3.6) points per game, they are allowing their opponents to shoot 34.4% from the floor and average 79.9 points per contest so far this season. The Buffs lead the all-time series against Eastern New Mexico, 68-18 in a series dating back to the 1935-36 campaign with the Buffs taking the last five meetings between the two teams.

- A LOOK BACKTAMUC RECAPThe then #12 Buffaloes of West Texas A&M hit 14 threes but dropped their second straight contest as they fell to the Lions of Texas A&M-Commerce, 104-103 in a double overtime thriller inside of the TAMUC Fieldhouse in Commerce, Texas on Saturday afternoon.

The Buffs went 36-of-82 (43.9%) from the floor including 14-of-45 (31.1%) from deep and 17-of-22 (77.3%) from the free throw line with 50 rebounds (10 offensive, 30 defensive), 18 assists, 11 turnovers, eight blocks and five steals. Chavlovich went 10-of-28 from the floor and 5-of-17 from deep to lead the Buffs with 29 points followed by J. Evans with 24 with 10 rebounds for the double-double while Quaid led WT with 14 rebounds.

LAST MEETING WITH ENMU (DEC. 3, 2016)West Texas A&M has six different players score double-figures as the #24 Buffs shot 50% from the floor to outlast the rival Greyhounds of Eastern New Mexico, 92-86 in front of 876 fans at the First United Bank Center in Canyon, Texas

The Buffs went 30-of-60 (50%) from the floor including 8-of-28 (28.6%) from deep and 24-of-35 (68.6%) from the free throw line to go along with 43 rebounds (15 offensive, 28 defensive), 14 assists, 19 turnovers, four blocks and seven steals. Chavlovich went 9-of-16 from the floor to lead the Buffs with 22 points with five other Buffs scoring double-digits.

MOVING ON UPJunior guard David Chavlovich is quickly making his way up WT’s all-time career scoring list as the Arlington native has scored 1,523 points in his 80 career games in Maroon & White to average an impressive 19.0 points per contest. Chavlovich’s 29 points against Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday afternoon kept the junior guard in second place all-time after passing Reggie Ramey (1973-76 / 1,440). NABC DIVISION II TOP-25 POLL (JAN. 24)The Buffs enter the week with an 18-4 overall record with a 6-3 mark in Lone Star Conference play to sit in a four-way tie for second place in the LSC with Cameron, Texas A&M-Commerce and UT Permian Basin. Northwest Missouri State picked up 12 of the possible 16 first place votes for a total of 396 points to sit atop of the poll followed by Fairmont State (four first place, 388), West Liberty (355), Cal Baptist (351), Shippensburg (336), Indiana, Pa. (295), Hawaii Pacific (279), Queens (270), Wheeling Jesuit (257) and Bellarmine (249) to round out the top ten.

HOME SWEET HOMEWest Texas A&M hits the road for a five game road trip following a pair of LSC home wins this past weekend, the Buffs are a perfect 11-0 at home this season. During those 11 home contests, WT has shot 47.8% (328-of-686) including 32.9% (99-of-301) from behind the arc and 75.1% (257-of-342) from the charity stripe to go along with 40.3 (+5.9) rebounds per game and 92.0 (+17.0) points per contest.

Tom Brown was hired on April 16, 2014, as the 17th head coach in WT men’s basketball history.

In just two short years Brown has turned around the West Texas A&M University Basketball Program. Brown led the team to its first 20+ win season since 2010-11. The Buffs were picked to finish 5th in the LSC this past season and despite a pre-season, season ending injury to sophomore starter Carl White the team still managed to finish 2nd in the LSC with an overall record of 21-10. The 2nd place finish is the highest since the conference was split North/South. The Buffs continued to battle minor injuries throughout the year but every player that was called on would step up. Under Brown’s di-rection the team had some very strong individual performances. WT sophomore guard David Chav-lovich led the way. For his outstanding play David was named an NABC All-American, the Lone Star Conference Player of the Year and 1st Team All-LSC selection. Sophomore Jordan Evans (playing in his first season) received honorable mention All-LSC acclaim. The Buffs again were dominate in the classroom as the team GPA exceeded a 3.0 for the year.

2015-16 the Buffs set a new record in the class-room. The team recorded the highest GPA for Men’s Basketball in a season.

Coach Brown inherited a WT team that won two games in the LSC and 10 games overall in 2013-14. Brown had to start from scratch in late April, the team had three seniors and one walkon redshirt freshman. Just three student-athletes saw playing time from the previous year and the team was picked to finish last in the Lone Star Confer-ence Preseason Poll. However, under Brown West Texas A&M University finished the season 5th in the LSC and posted a 17-12 overall record. The Buffs made the LSC Tournament as the fifth seed. There were some individual accolades as well, all three of the returning seniors improved on their scoring average from the previous season. Tez Dumars surpassed Maurice Cheeks in WT All-Time scoring and finished his career ranked 4th All-Time in scoring at WT. David Chavlovich was the squads leading scorer, 2nd Team All-Conference Perform-er and the Freshman of the Year in the LSC as he averaged 16.5 points per contest to go along with 93 assists and 30 steals.

In 2014-15, the Buffs set a new record in the classroom. The team recorded the highest GPA for Men’s Basketball in a season.

Tom was the driving force as the Associate Head Coach and head recruiter in the most successful Division II men’s basketball program in recent history at Winona State University. The Warriors won the NCAA Division II National Cham-pionship in 2006 and 2008 and finished as the National Finalist in 2007. During that span, Winona State posted an unprecedented 105-6 record. WT Assistant Coach Quincy Henderson played for Coach Brown from 2005-2008. Quincy’s record as a collegiate player at WSU was 105-6.

Named Division II Bulletin’s ‘Program of the Decade’ for 2000-2009, WSU set a NCAA Division II record with 57 consecutive wins, a run that began on Jan. 13, 2006, and didn’t end until the national title game on Mar. 24, 2007. The 2007-08 Warrior squad won a NCAA record 38 games.

An excellent recruiter and teacher, Brown recruited and developed some of the best players in the nation with three National Player of the Year recipients, along with seven first team All-America honorees. 11 players total have earned All-America status including WT Sopho-more David Chavlovich. Brown has coached five NSIC Most Valuable Players, seven NSIC Defen-sive Players of the Year and two Elite Eight Most Valuable Players.

Brown is doing it again at WT as David Chav-lovich has earned both Freshman of the Year and Player of the Year in the best Division II Confer-ence in the Nation, the Lone Star Conference.

Brown attended and played basketball (1988-1992) and baseball (1991) at Winona State University. He finished his Warrior career ranked fifth in program history in scoring, second in assists and first in steals. He earned his bachelor’s degree in 1993 in physical education and completed his master’s degree in education in 1998.

He and his wife Dr. Trisha Brown are the proud parents of three children, TJ, Zach and Ella. Dr. Brown is currently an Instructor and works in the Sports & Exercise Science Department at West Texas A&M.

ORANGE, CA - West Texas A&M opened up their 2016-17 campaign in style as five different Buffs scored in double-figures to lead WT to an 86-72 season opening win over the Azusa Pacific Cougars to open up the CCA Division II Tipoff Classic at the Santia-go Canyon College Athletics Com-plex in Orange, California.

The Buffs went 28-of-64 (43.8%) from the floor including 10-of-24 (41.7%) from deep and 20-of-28 (71.4%) from the charity stripe to go along with 37 rebounds (nine offensive, 28 defen-sive), 13 assist, seven turnovers, two blocks and nine steals. Evans led the way for WT with 20 points followed by Chavlovich (16), Walton (14), White (13), and Quaid (12) in double-digits while Quaid ended the game with 10 rebounds for a double-double.

Azusa Pacific went 23-of-57 (40.4%) from the field including 9-of-26 (34.6% from long range and 17-of-23 (73.9%) from the free throw line to go along with 40 rebounds (10 offensive, 30 defensive), 13 assists, 20 turnovers, two blocks and four steals. Schreiber led all players with 25 points on the afternoon followed by Peterson with 14 and Kutlesic with 13.

ORANGE, CA - West Texas A&M junior guard Jordan Evans scored 20 points for the second straight contest as the Buffs shot 50 percent from the floor in an 83-70 win over St. Cloud State during the CCA Division II Tipoff Clas-sic at the Santiago Canyon College Athletics Complex in Orange, Califor-nia.

The Buffs were led offensively by Ev-ans with his second straight 20-point performance followed by White with 17 and Chavlovich with 15. Walton, Chavlovich and White grabbed six rebounds each while Chavlovich dished out five steals. WT went 29-of-58 (50%) from the floor including 11-of-25 (44%) from deep and 14-of-28 (50%) with 36 rebounds (nine offen-sive, 27 defensive), 17 assists, 13 turn-overs, two blocks and three steals. The Huskies were led by Davis with 23 points followed by Scottie Stone with 16 while Davis grabbed eight rebounds on the night. SCSU went 22-of-61 (36.1%) from the floor including 7-of-21 (33.3%) from long range and 19-of-26 (73.1%) from the free throw line to go along with 42 rebounds (15 offensive, 27 defensive), 11 assists, 16 turnovers, five blocks and five steals.

ORANGE, CA - The Buffaloes of West Texas A&M are off to their best start to a season since 2012-13 thanks to an 11-0 run in the heart of the sec-ond half as WT outlasted #23 Arkan-sas-Fort Smith, 94-86 in the finale of the CCA Division II Tipoff Classic at the Santiago Canyon College Athlet-ics Complex in Orange, California.

The Buffs were led by Walton with 24 points followed by Chavlovich (19), Evans (17) and Golightly Jr. (10) with double-digit points while Chavlovich led WT with six rebounds and three assists. The Buffs went 21-of-60 (35%) from the field including 9-of-28 (32.1%) from deep and 22-of-35 (62.9%) from the free throw line with 29 rebounds (12 offensive, 17 defensive), nine assists, 10 turnovers, two blocks and seven steals. Jordan Evans and Drew Evans led the way for the Buffs with 13 points each followed by White with eight and Gove with seven while Quaid grabbed four rebounds. Tarleton State was led by Riddick who went 2-of-10 from the floor and 15-of-16 from the free throw line to register a game high 19 points followed by Chambers (17), Camidge (17) and Jenkins (16) in double-figures while Jenkins grabbed 11 rebounds for the double-double.
