Master of Puppets is the third studio album by the American heavy metal band Metallica. It wasreleased on March 3, 1986 through Elektra Records. The album reached #29 on the U.S.Billboard 200 album chart and was the band's first gold record for sales of over 500,000 copies.This was done without any radio airplay or the release of a music video. The album eventuallysold over six million copies in the United States and was certified 6x platinum by the RIAA.

Master of Puppets met with critical acclaim at the time of its release. The album is considered aclassic thrash metal album by fans, critics, and the band members themselves alike and isconsidered to be one of the most influential heavy metal albums of all time. Allmusic's SteveHuey commented that Master of Puppets "was the band's greatest achievement." "Some criticshave called Master of Puppets the best metal album ever recorded", Huey noted.

Master of Puppets has been featured on several "greatest albums of all time" lists. The album ispresent in the list "The All-TIME 100 Albums" published by TIME magazine in November 2006.In TIME critic Josh Tyrangiel's opinion, "Metallica didn't bother with hooks or pop discipline" inwriting Master of Puppets. IGN ranked it #1 in a list of the "Top 25 Metal Albums" issued inJanuary 2007. The album is featured in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Dieand Q magazine counted it among the 50 heaviest albums of all time. In 2003, the album wasranked number 167 on Rolling Stone's list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. The albumhas frequently been tagged by critics as "one of the most influential thrash metal albums of alltime."

 

 

Master of Puppets – trzeci album studyjny amerykańskiego zespołu heavymetalowegoMetallica. Został wydany 3 marca 1986 roku przez wytwórnię Elektra Records.

Jest to pierwsza płyta grupy nagrana dla wytwórni Elektra. W przeciwieństwie do poprzedniejwytwórni, Megaforce Records, teraz zespół nie miał ustalonej daty wydania albumu z czego –jak uważają członkowie grupy – Metallica skorzystała. W rezultacie, Master of Puppets jestokreślany przez niektórych krytyków za najlepszą płytę heavymetalową kiedykolwiek nagraną.Album osiągnął również inny sukces trafiając na 29. miejsce krajowego zestawienia najlepiejsprzedających się albumów w USA i zdobywając już 4 listopada 1986 złotą płytę w tym samymkraju. Zarazem jest to ostatni album nagrany z basistą Cliffem Burtonem, który zginął wwypadku drogowym niedaleko Ljungby w Szwecji - nad ranem 27 września 1986 roku, wypadłprzez okno a następnie został przygnieciony przez autobus, którym grupa poruszała się wtrakcie trasy promującej Master of Puppets.

„Przy nagrywaniu tego albumu po raz pierwszy byliśmy w sytuacji komfortowej. W poprzednichwyznaczano ostateczną datę wydania ze względu na ograniczenia finansowe. Myślę, żewykorzystaliśmy tę okazję. Nie śpieszyliśmy się i robiliśmy wszystko, żeby wyszło naprawdędobrze. Często jest tak, szczególnie przy pierwszej płycie, że zespół wchodzi do studia,znajduje właściwe brzmienie gitary czy perkusji i w błyskawicznym tempie nagrywa całość. AleMaster of Puppets jest płytą różnorodną i dopracowaną w szczegółach, co zresztą słychać.
