ChallengeWrightington, Wigan & Leigh and Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trusts wanted to let an empty 24,081 sq ft industrial unit and transform it into a sterilisation unit. It was in the perfect location to support all of their local hospitals and in the longer term would reduce costs, meet their future requirements and reduce lead times for sterilisation surgical equipment. The challenge was to transform this huge empty space into a high specification sterilisation unit.

SolutionBuilding Projects (UK) worked as part of the construction team for Boulting Environmental Services who undertook the design and mechanical and electrical installation. Building Projects (UK) completed the fit out of the empty 24,081 sq ft industrial unit, the building works completed included:

• Full construction and fit out of all partitions covering 14,180 sq ft

• Fire protection

• Burgess metal pan ceilings covering 5,600 sq ft

• Cleanroom construction

• Fitting out changing areas

• Fitting out toilet blocks

• 3,600 sq ft of mineral fibre lay in ceilings

• 10,400 sq ft of plastic faced lay in ceilings
