Before even getting started take a good look at the beach. You will usually, especially on ocean beach-es, see areas that are washed out. If it has rained recently you may also notice channels where water has run off the upper beach. These would both be good areas to search. If the beach looks flat with no obvious areas try an S pattern. Walk down the beach at a steady pace from knee deep up to the high water mark. Eventually, you should start to find a pocket of targets. Take note of each target and its relative location to the high water mark. Many times, Mother Nature deposits objects of sim-ilar weight in the same area or at the same dis-tance from the high water mark. Once you find sev-eral targets and they are all located on the same track you can reduce the size of your pattern and just focus on the more productive path. If at any time you hit a pocket of coins, keep digging. Re-member, a pocket of coins mean that Mother Na-ture has deposited these items together and many times you have to dig all of the coins before hitting the deeper, heavier gold targets which may have been masked by the coin signals. It’s not uncom-mon to dig a hundred pennies before recovering a gold ring. I actually used to keep track of the num-ber of coins recovered. On the beaches I was work-ing I knew that for every 75-100 coins I would end up with a piece of gold. The only problem is when you find two gold rings immediately. Now you know your going to get a sore arm digging holes before your next piece of jewelry.

Sheppard Point Outing July 18th

The club outing to Sheppard Point Recreation Area at Heyburn Lake on Saturday, July 18th was a good

one. The high temperature was around the 95° mark with a strong wind most of the day, and a re-

freshing cool lake water temperature.

The club supplied hamburgers, buns, condiments, & chips. And normally the club would have supplied

hot dogs & hot links but someone left them home in the refrigerator, Terry. Again Roger Eaton han-

dled the cooking. Good job Roger and Thank You! And Thanks to Christy Wicks for transporting

the club’s grill and bringing the tables.

There were 22 members standing in line to chow down on burgers supplied by the club and the out-

standing food assortment brought by club members. Thanks to all those bringing the great side dishes

and desserts. If you went away hungry at this outing, again it was your own fault.

After the big feed there were scattered as evenly as possible 141 tokens in a 30 yards X 50 yards desig-

nated area. There were 21 tokens for member donated prizes, and 120 tokens for Silver Mercury

dimes. When the start signal was given there were 11 water hunters frothing the water.

After 1 hour+ of

hunting there were 13

Silver Mercury Dime

tokens NOT

found. The larger

total not found was

due to the larger

number of kids in the

swimming area on a

Saturday. They were

moving the bouy

markers around. Tokens were painted Wheat Cents, painted aluminum pulltabs, & numbered .54 cal.

Gallagher Minie’ lead bullets.

Thank you Daniel Willis for these great drone shots.

not found last outing. $5.00 donated by Bob Cook. $5.00 donated by Pam Cook. $5.00 donated by

Wally Dick. $5.00 donated by Roger Eaton. Bag O’ Dimes donated by Roger Eaton. Bag O’ Dimes

Fortney. Bag O’ Dimes donated by Mathew Fortney. $5.00 donated by John Hamilton. $5.00 donat-

ed by Kim Hauger. Knife donated by John Hayworth. Homemade Soaps donated by Delbert Hum-

phries. Presidential Ring donated by Delbert Humphries. 2 Silver Quarters won by Cody

Reese. $5.00 donated by Kim Hauger won by Cody Reese. Detector Brace donated by Dan Willis. De-

tector Brace donated by Dan Willis. Detecting Bag donated by Dan Willis. Detecting Bag donated by

Dan Willis. Detecting Bag donated by Dan Willis.

And the totals found were: Bob Cook 15 Silver Mercury dimes & 5 prize tokens. John Hamilton 16

Silver Mercury dimes & 2 prize tokens. Cody Reese 12 Silver Mercury dimes & 2 prize tokens. John

Hayworth 9 Silver Mercury dimes & 2 prize tokens. Bob Avey 10 Mercury Silver dimes. Pam Cook 7

Silver Mercury dimes & 2 prize tokens. Mathew Fortney 8 Mercury Silver dimes & 1 prize to-

ken. Ken Fanning 8 Silver Mercury dimes. Kim Hauger 7 Silver Mercury dimes & 1 prize to-

ken. Wally Dick 7 Silver Mercury dimes. David Avey 4 Silver Mercury dimes & 1 prize token.

And once again, one of the main reasons for this type of outing, besides the food of course, is also, the

fun and fellowship of being with people that enjoy the same hobby. And to give non-water hunting

members a chance to try their hand at it. There are always extra water detectors & scoops available for

use, so if you have not tried water hunting come on out & try it, you might find you like it. If you

missed this outing, you missed another good one.

Don’t miss the next one!
